Taylor turns down Newcastle.

Peter Taylor.
Taylor stays with Bradford.
It looks like Peter Taylor has turned down the opportunity to become Alan Pardew’s new assistant manager at Newcastle.

Taylor had admitted last night that he had been in talks with Newcastle over a move to the North-East, but it would appear that something has got in the way of the move happening.

Several sources have suggested that a compensation package had been agreed between Newcastle and Bradford City for the services of Taylor, so I guess that train of thought is ruled out now. It would have been nice to have Taylor here working alongside the current structure, but it isn’t to be as Taylor has decided to stick with the League Two outfit.

Mark Lawn, Bradford’s joint-chairman, told the Yorkshire Post: “Newcastle approached us between Christmas and new year and we subsequently agreed compensation for the remainder of Peter’s contract. But since then Peter has indicated he wants to stay and we hope that is the end of it.”

There isn’t much more that can be said about it now. Taylor isn’t coming, end of, and Alan Pardew’s search to bolster his backroom staff will have to continue.

Of course, this again opens the door for some more John Carver speculation, but as I wrote last night, Pardew must not be swayed by public opinion and must appoint a man that he knows he can trust from the start. I’m not saying that he couldn’t trust Carver, and I believe he would be a good addition, but Pardew must have someone he can work with straight away.

It’s been just over eleven weeks since Colin Calderwood departed for the Hibernian job, which means that it has been nearly three months, and two managers, since we have had an assistant manager at Newcastle. That is pretty shocking to be honest, and needs addressing sooner rather than later.

So where do we go now?

  6. Stardust – Did you ever hear the interview with Shearer talking about when he was offered the managers job?

Basically we were relegated on the Sunday and Shearer was asked to put a business plan together which he did. He met with Ashley on the Tuesday who agreed with his business plan, offered him a contract that Shearer duly accepted, shook hands on it and Shearer never heard from him again! Blows a bit of a hole in your ‘Shearer had his chance and blew it’ theory doesn’t it?

You cannot say your suprised by Ashley actions, especially after the way he treated your Chris…

  7. Is that interview still around Stu – I would like to hear it for the horses mouth so to speak before I call you a stinking liar with an agenda – 😆

Might even call you a racist while Im at it 😆

  8. In hindsight, was NOT appointing Shearer the best thing the club could have done? Could Shearer of replicated – or bettered – what Hughton done? Hypothetical of course, but still…
For me, Ashley’s actions with Shearer feel a bit like what he was like with Hughton, he just wasn’t his man for the job.
It’s recognised by all that football is a business now, and as they say, in business, sometime you have to be ruthless.

That wasn’t my point tbh. I was pointing out to Stardust that Ashley is just a arrogant, disloyal little man who cannot be trusted with the future of this club.

    Thanks batty.

  12. “arrogant, disloyal” yep, I’d agree

“little man” lol don’t agree so much on that one.

“cannot be trusted with the future of the club” This one I who heartedly disagree, everything he has done structurally to the club has been for the benefit and longevity of the club as a working business, and thereafter, a successful club.

And personally, I think we are starting to see the club come out of a very bad time. If we stay up this season, I think we will go from strength to strength, with him at the helm.

On the flip side, we could get some rich foreign owners in like these Venkys, which all they care about is image and marketability, and we could bid for Ronaldinho?

I would rather us got relegated again then see us like Blackburn right now, turning into absolute jokes.

Middlesbrough had an exact same business model as Ashley wants us to have ie great academy, brilliant young players and living within their means) and look what’s happened to them!

Boro had the 3rd best academy in Europe two years ago and they got relegated!

  14. Now Ive listened – Its a tricky one that Stu – Ashley has heard everything Shearer had to say, the players he wanted in, the players he wanted out, the terms he wanted the job on.

He spent the day working through those options, its obvious now that on reflection Ashley has thought this wasnt right for him or the club.

I dont and cant really criticise him for that. I think its his right to change his mind there. I think the worst you can say about him is that he didnt have the courtesy to call Shearer and explain why not.

  16. Aye it was, but it’s surprised me. This whole Bolton play football no thing is a load of bollocks aswell. They may play it at times, but the majority of the time they lump it up to Davies or Elmander.

When there wasn’t much going on on .org, I logged onto Ed’s to see if anything new up there, and found the link by Pearch. Had just seen Toonsy last article on .org and thought that could be him putting up his new site. If that was you Toonsy, well done on the way you did it without giving the game away.
