Time for some understanding?

Understanding the Toon.
We Newcastle United supporters are something of an enigma in the world of football.

Followers of other clubs, and especially the media, sometimes don’t seem to understand the ways of the Toon Army. The amount of names we have had tagged to us over the years is staggering.

But are they right in their judgement of us, or are they misguided?

The one tag that really pains me is when we get called deluded. We get told that all Newcastle supporters believe we should be challenging for the title and playing Champions League football each season. This is nothing but utter nonsense of course. I don’t know of anyone who thinks that way and I haven’t heard talk of Champions League football since the unfortunate sacking of the late, great, Sir Bobby Robson.

As you all know, I am unfortunate enough to live in the second biggest city in England, Birmingham. Despite Birmingham only being a two club city, I know many Birmingham and Villa supporters who are envious of the support we show our club and wish their club had a similar following. So not everyone thinks we are bad then!

I personally feel that we have a great bunch of supporters, who don’t always deserve the flack we get from the media in particular. Yes we come under fire for our lack of patience every now and then, for maybe not giving players or managers enough time or support, while showing blind loyalty to our legends.

Allardyce, Keegen and Shearer. Right or wrong appointments? Given enough time or support?

Chris Hughton really had to earn our respect as he was not a popular decision with many when he was made manager on a full time basis, yet he was given time and good vocal backing from supporters and deservedly won our respect. Will Alan Pardew get the same treatment? Results have been quite good but will there be shouts of ‘Pardew out’ if we go on a bit of a poor run?

Everyone who pays their hard earned money on supporting this great club have the right to voice their opinions at matches, but I feel some of us are doing the lads no favours with criticism of them or the owner. Mike Ashley is far from my ideal owner of our club, but when that whistle blows our concern should be the players on the pitch. We should be loud, proud and giving the players our full support.

Sadly this is not always the case. Kevin Nolan still gets grief from some people in the stands whilst appearing to be a good leader and scoring ten league goals from midfield, including a hat-trick against the Mackem turds. This makes him something of a hero in my eyes. I think he should get our full backing. I also have a suspicion that Mike Ashley knows his level of popularity without people singing get out of our club and the like.

We are having a great season on the pitch, looking good for survival and just missed out on doing the double over The Mackems. I can’t be the only one happy with how things are going surely?

We are all different and support the club in varrying ways, loyal, expectant, demanding or just plain mad, but now I feel that we must be understanding. Transfer windows can be annoying times for any supporter worried about good players leaving or whether we’ll get that extra quality added to the squad.

If players join our club they must be given time to settle, some of our top players didn’t hit the ground running and with talk of Hatem Ben Arfa possibly returning next month we must understand that he is unlikely to make a sudden impact as he did on his full debut against Everton. Be prepared to give the lad time, we probably won’t see him back to full strength this season.

Understanding not demanding will be the key in my opinion.

  1. I can’t believe we aren’t going to win the league. We done it last season so what is the difference.

    Sack everyone 😉

  2. +1 to toonsy. 😈

We always need to aim high. Next Match against Man utd,we must be the first team to end their unbeaten run and thrash them another 5-0.

ps:though blackpool should learn hw to park a tank in front of their goal. 😀

  3. We’ll constantly be branded deluded as in essence, theres nowt else for other clubs to slag us for just now, it’s worn painfully thin. People might aswell start shouting their mouth off about how lasses don’t understand the offside rule..

In a brighter note, I’ve heard we’re bagging Ronaldo in this window. Only a matter of time till that deal goes through I’d imagine. If it’s Real or us there’s really nee choice to make is there.

  4. I seriously wonder,is shola time up?Cause if Birmingham City revised their offer for Him and is around 2Million,Shola can leave.

  5. Canny article again there jay jay… we are the best fans in the world, we are the greatest club in the world, next year we’ll win the league and both cups followed by the Champions league the season after, not deluded, just plain fact, live with it!!! 😉 😆

  6. hahaha I cant for one second believe that a profesional football team would be in for Mutu, and we say Barton has baggage? Jesus

For those who missed it, we’ve been linked with Adel Taarabt a couple of times and here’s his goal and assist from the weekend. Watched the game like and he was the dogs.

Seems to be one of those players which you give a little bit of free reign to, some times it doesn’t come off and you hate him, but when it comes off? Well, just watch the goal, unreal!

Ben Arfa, Taarabt and someone else floating around, switching possitions supporting Carroll? Tasty!

  7. Ice im sure your sad to see hairy hands go mate. Maybe they will get someone sensible on now but I still think whoever it is they will be biased towards the usual suspects 🙄

  8. Good read jay jay.
I think outsiders hate us because they can’t understand how a club that’s won Nowt in ages has the best support in the world.

  9. I had a chuckle at Gardner hitting the post there until it brought back memories of Shearer battering the post on a couple of occasions in the FA cup final like 👿 lol
