Boro looking at Xisco?

Have you seen this man?

Middlesbrough boss, Tony Mowbray is said to be monitoring the availablity of Xisco.

The misfit of Newcastle has alerted the misfit’s of the North-East who are looking at a potential loan deal for the 24-year-old striker.

On the surface of it, I am asking why we haven’t dumped him in the middle of Boro’s industrial wasteland already, but it appears that there is a snag and that wages are the problem.

You see Xisco was signed on massive wages (in the region of ?50,000 a week), on a long term deal, and whilst Xisco had a good reputation at the time it is arguable whether or not he deserved the financial compensation on offer. Still, it’s not his fault for taking it as, being quite honest, if somebody handed me a fistfull of dollars I wouldn’t say no.

The problem is that these massive wages will come back to bite you on the ***, particularly if you have a player like Xisco who has done nothing at all, whether that be through his own fault or not, to justify them.

I actually think that a loan move would benefit Xisco. It will give him the opportunity to showcase what he has to offer and to get back in the swing of playing regular football again. You never know, he may come back a better player for it and with a point to prove to the Newcastle management and fans.

Of course on the flipside of that it could be argued that allowing Xisco out on loan would deplete our squad even further, although you have to wonder whether losing a player who has only played an hour or so of football all season long really be such a loss?

It’s all kind of irrelevant at the minute to be honest as there seems to be this game of brinksmanship with regard to wages. Middlesbrough are, quite understandably, reluctant to pay the full amount whilst Newcastle are, again quite understandably, keen for any team to pay as much of his wages as possible.

I feel sorry and angry with regard to Xisco, in equal measure. I feel angered that he seems to not really be interested in playing and that he feigned injury (yes it was a while ago but it’s unforgivable in my opinion), but I also feel sorry for the mess that Xisco found himself in with the turbulence going on at the time. Ironically, his only goal for the club was scored during the height of that turbulence.

You have to wonder why Xisco isn’t even featuring, particularly when you consider some of the injury problems we have had since he arrived on Tyneside. Keegan didn’t rate him, Kinnear didn’t rate him, Shearer didn’t rate him, Hughton didn’t rate him and now Pardew seems to not rate him. These are all people who know more about football than we will ever know, and they will all have seen Xisco in greater depth that we ever will. You have to wonder why none of them rate him?

Would this be a good move?

  1. Yep, that just about sums it up. Lots of people on here talk about being “given” a chance, when there’s no such thing. The starting 11 have to earn the right to be there, and clearly, Xisco hasn’t been giving any of these managers good enough reason to start him at the cost of others.

I like what AP’s said: shows the lad some understanding, compassion, a last chance and a cleanish sheet. If he doesn’t take this then good grief, I hope he’s invested his wages wisely because his career’s probably over.

Wouldn’t it be nice if it turned out he’s good on the wings? 😮

  3. @toonsy: correct me if i am wrong, but KK leave before the match when Xisco score on his debut. So can’t really say KK “didn’t rate Him”. Kinnear&Shearer, one fighting for His health at one point, another fighting to save the club from relegation, and that point owen, viduka, martins were the “safe choice” as strikers.

As for Hughton, hmm u can say yup only Him didn’t rate Him,but when Hughton does play Him,he did well didn’t he?

I guess the ultimate problem is like what pardew said,His character development, needs to be guided correctly. Not about His footballing skills whatsoever i presume.

  4. AOD – So why didn’t Keegan play him before then? I mean if he is that good, why did he not play straight away?

Kinnear and Shearer were both desperate, Shearer more so, which makes you wonder why, even in desperation, Xisco wasn’t even tried?

  5. It is hard for me to feel bad for xisco. He makes a ton of money to do nothing. The club has tried to loan him and sell him with only one taker last year, who then apparently didnt want to make it permanent. 5 managers now and still no one has seemed to rate him. We are stuck with him so the only hope is that he can play his way onto the pitch. I hope he does.

Because of that, I say loan him out. Maybe with some playing time at a lower level he could improve as a player

  6. On 1 September 2008, Xisco signed for Newcastle United for a reported initial fee of £5.7 million.

See the date,it was the last transfer deal.

And by 13 Setember 2008 which was the Hull City Match,KK already leave,he can’t possibly play Him,cause KK already gone. 🙄

Shearer like you mentioned, was desperate, and by having only 8games,and surprisedly, all 3 1st choice strikers were fit enough to play,of course he would start them and not Xisco.

What my point is,Xisco can’t be a bad player at all, cause he can score goals, what the problem right now is his character i feel.

  7. he’s a spineless/workshy conscientious objecter – if he was a turn on at the club on a saturday neet the commitee would’a paid him off & that’s exactly what they should do at the toon.

get shot – or better still just shoot the coward.

  8. Did Xisco not grow up playing with Messi, Fabregas etc?
I believe he was as highly thought of at one point – he does show a decent touch, pass, movement and vision at times when he plays – hope he comes good wherever he plays

    Really? 😯

In 103 first class club games he has scored 29 goals. 13 of them came at a Spanish second division side.

    No better than Ameobi.

  10. Xisco is the one remaining reminder of the last premier league season, Complete waster, overpaid, unmotivated, drain on the clubs resources.

Feigning injury not to play, Hooters has the patience of a saint and even he gave up on him last season when he let him mince his way back off to the santander blue oyster bar and he blew another chance again this season when he was used off the bench a few times before making a **** up of it.

Get rid to which ever spanish club stupid enough, Just not boro they arent worth our charity, I reckon we should nab Stuart Parnabys dad who runs their academy while them kunts are on their knees… 😈 😈

  12. bloody hell, £22 mill for Suarez, another big money signing, I thought Alex Ferguson was right saying that Jan is notorious for no big signings as teams don’t want to sell their best players, seems that might be changing, money talks I guess.

Anyone else think we may have missed something with Charlie Austin?

      (Quote)

  13. haha just been pointed out, amoungst everyone saying we need to sign players, we’re the third highest spenders in Jan, behind Man city and Villa

  14. Could xisco’s lack of games not be owt to do with the fee going up after a certain amount of appearances?

Mind you, some things are best left unsaid so I can see that side of it.

  25. That should of definitly not been said in public , as said if things dont work out at qpr n he comes back? Or if things do work at at qpr since he would clearly not be wanted back at the club , would we get a decent price for him?

  26. TGS – He was, when fit, but that was, and still is, his major problem.

He could be thre greatest player the world has ever seen, but it matters not when he can’t get on the pitch.

With the sexist comments situation, I was at a meeting at a police station this afternoon, when I said the room I needed to go to, but didn’t know where it was, the woman on the desk said look out for the cute blonde girl at the stairs, she’ll tell you where to go. Imagine if a bloke had said that??

  29. Wow! Just read Pardew’s comments- more than fairly shocking to say the least. It’s almost like he had an ax to grind with Rout- or he’s just a mean SOB. Surely there is more to the story…

“I mean, was Wayne gonna be a long term first team player for us? and I don’t think he was.”

Well I guess he was right and wasn’t really saying he was ***** or wasnt good enough for the Toon, Just that he wasnt good enough for the 1st team which he’s not and I dont think there is many that think he is. But I dont think he helps himself sometimes and it just gives the Anti Pardew ones more Ammo
