Deadline day is underway….

Tick-tock, tick-tock. Well deadline day is finally here, and Newcastle are still, apparently, in the hunt for new players.

A deal for Stephen Ireland looks set to be announced at some point today, and there could well be room for another player to come through the doors at St James’ Park.

But it isn’t just players in that us fans should be concerned about. There is a very real prospect that we could be on the receiving end of some serious bids for some of our players at some point tomorrow. And yes, I’m looking squarely in the direction of Tottenham Hotspur here.

With the news that Tottenham have had a £38.5 million bid turned down for Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero, there is a very real chance that they could come sniffing around Andy Carroll again at some time today, only this time we know they have deep pockets and are looking increasingly desperate in their attempts at trying to find a striker.

The mantra from the club will no doubt remain the same and they will surely repeat that Andy Carroll is not for sale at any price, but there is still that element of doubt, in my mind certainly. The latest rumour I’ve heard is that a bid of £18 million plus Roman Pavlyuchenko could potentially be made, according to Scott Wilson from the Northern Echo anyway.

It isn’t just Andy Carroll that could be the focus of attention tomorrow. Jose Enrique is another player who is attracting interest, with Liverpool being touted as potential suitors for the services of Spaniard. Much like Carroll, I doubt Jose is for sale, but until that window closes there can be no guarantee of any player staying with us in my opinion.

Obviously Xisco looks to be on his way back to Spain, but he is hardly a key player. In fact I would argue whether or not he is actually a football player at all to be fair. Needless to say I’m not overly upset to be seeing the back of him. Harsh, but true, and probably fair.

What are your predictions for deadline day though? Do you think we will get anyone in? Do you think that Stephen Ireland is a done deal? Will we get more than Ireland? Will we lose any key players? Will we finally get rid of Xisco?

My personal view is that Xisco will go, Ireland will arrive, Carroll won’t go anywhere, same with Jose, plus I think we will get one more in.

Obviously these are just my predictions so don’t blame me if they go tits up. You all know by now what my predictions are like! 😀

What are your predictions?

  1. SUCFan@twitter a staff member in melwood mentioned torres has given his locker key to the person who are in charge~~~ 🙄

Great that 30million bid rejected. 😎

    But anything above 35million,is crazy.

  2. How much was Carroll worth 12 months ago when he was struggling to score in the Fizzy league?

  3. @toonsy: there is always such deal that the player being bought still can play for the club till summer.

sort now, play later or buy now loan back to the club he was from.

  4. Lee Ryder of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle says Celtic have “a big interest” in Sol Campbell. The Bhoys have also been trying to convince Forest to sell Kelvin Wilson today even though he’s already agreed a Bosman move in the summer.

  5. oh my its squeaky bum time!!

fair play though knocking back £30 mill i just hope they havent done that to drive his price up.

MA better not sell Big Andy, otherwise i will be driving the 200 miles to the toon and making a personal visit to see him 👿

  6. Did anybody see the interview with Twitcha? The Lick-spittle Sky reporter’s patter was cack. He started to try and name exciting players that Spurs have bought in recent windows and could only name VDV and Defoe a few windows ago. The hype that Twitcha attracts is a joke.

  7. im supposed to be working but i am constantly flicking from news now, to sky sports to bbc.

we should announce caroll has signed a new 5 year deal to really put a spanner in the works 😆

  8. Hopefully we keep knocking back these bids for Carroll. No one wants him to go, he doesn’t want to leave and Liverpool having 30 million to throw around surely shows Torres is definitly out the door? Fair play to the club for saying no like, it will be a case of rinse and repeat in the summer though should we survive today.

  9. Bollocks. Off to a meeting so I’m going have to take my finger off the pulse for a couple of hours 👿

New thread up btw. Back soon.

  10. 11:27 Lee Ryder: News in tonight’s Chronicle re Enrique

Can’t be a transer since the news sounds settled and we haven’t heard of a transfer. New contract maybe? Here’s hoping…

  11. Where do these clubs get the money from? 25 million for Suarez and 30 million for Avatar??

Of course those figures are probably gash
