Game on! Fulham v Newcastle.

Newcastle tackle Fulham.
Its been a while, quite a while, and a fair bit hs gone on since our last game against Tottenham 11 days ago.

The football, thankfully, returns tonight as Newcastle head to the banks of the River Thames to take on Fulham. Craven Cottage is quite possibly the most picturesque Premier League ground around. It has character, charm, and a lovely view of the River Thames.

I was there, as was MarkToon, in our relegation season, which is why I managed to take in the splendour of the ground and it’s surrounding area. After all, the football was pretty dire. I recall that we lost 2-1 that day, and I think Amoebi scored the consolation goal with Fabricio Coloccini conceding a penalty. Anyway, I’ll stop reminiscing now as that is all in the past. What is important is the match tonight!

Three points would be brilliant, even a point would be decent, and I’m sure the team will be wanting to put the points on the board as soon as they can as they aim for safety as soon as possible. It will be tough though, very tough, as Fulham appear to be waking up and have been getting some decent results as of late.

If you want to read a bit more background on the fixture as well as ponder the team news and take in some fun stats then please feel free to read the NUFCblog.info match preview if you haven’t already done so.

The match will be live on Sky Sports this evening and will be broadcast in 3D, but for the majority of us who don’t have access to such luxury you could possibly pick a stream from MyP2P. I’m not promising anything though, so if you know of a decent stream then please feel free to post a link up in the comments section below.

Kick off is scheduled for 8pm UK time so you will need to adjust that depending on your location around the globe. Hopefully the game will be worth watching for all of us!

Team news is as follows….

Fulham: – Mark Schwarzer, John Pantsil, Chris Baird, Brade Hangeland, Aaron Hughes, Clint Dempsey, Danny Murphy, Steve Sidwell, Damien Duff, Moussa Dembele, Andy Johnson.

Subs: – David Stockdale, Carlos Salcido, Jonathan Greening, Simon Davies, Gael Kakuta, Zolton Gera, Diomansy Kamara.

Newcastle: – Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Joey Barton, Danny Guthrie, Kevin Nolan, Jonas Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Leon Best.

Subs: – Tim Krul, James Perch, Sol Campbell, Shane Ferguson, Peter Lovenkrands, Nile Ranger, Michael Richardson

Howay the lads!

  1. From what I can gather it wasn’t an impressive performance. Its a good job we have 30 points already as I don’t think we’ll get many more this season. I think we will survive, but it’s going to be closer than it could have been. Next game us a write off in my opinion. I live in hope that we can do something against Arsenal, but my head says it’s extremely doubtful 🙁

  3. They’ve hit form and it was an unfortunate goal to conceed, although you could argue they deserved it, would have seen a draw as a good result. Enrique had a poor game-won’t happen much again hopefully. Tiote back to make up for osme of Guthrie’s poor decisions will make us a far more solid unit.

Main problem is shola out-that will almost completely cut out supply to Nolan, say what you like about Shola but he’s awesome in the air. Best, Ranger and Loven pretty ineffective in setting up others. Still, its gone from people wanting a far more creative midfield to give more chances to our strikers…to people wanting more/better strikers- I realise Carroll is out, but with Shola I would have been pretty happy…obviously its a problem but people are overreacting. Justl ike last week it is europe and now its relegation-people need to get a bloody grip.

  4. Toonsy. We need to friggin fight with the likes of Collo and Enrique, who had a suprisingly average game tonight, against Arsenal. To get, now critical points and to not get embarrassed 4-0 again. They will want an away win desperately, factor in the fact that they are going well, have title hopes and want revenge for what must have been a deeply dissapointing home defeat. In which a certain A Carroll scored the only goal of the game I might add.

In terms of the rest of the season, Ok Fulham are now 5 wins at home and on MUCH improved form… but…. they were still wobbly at the back and very average IMO. We just didn’t have the cutting edge.

Ashley and Del boy have unsurprisingly gambled with our season. Having cashed in on avitar they have just been dealt a *** hand, Ameobi is now, unsurprisingly out aswell. That leaves us with Leon Best, Ranger and Lovenkrands (Xisco having gone back to Espainia for the rest of the season). Best has scored 3 premier league goals, all in the same game. Ranger has scored, well… Nil prem goals. Lovenkrands hasn’t scored many either.

The bottom line for me is how fast we get Tiote, Benny and Ireland (and maybe Shola back). All of these players are gonna have to pull their fingers out (in the case of Ireland) and save our bacon until the summer. (When we need a target man and probably won’t spend much either IMO)

P.S. Thanks Ashley you sh’#. I no people who hope you gamble fails and we go down again, in all honesty im finding it hard to argue with them.

  5. Think we might have to start playing 4-5-1…Nolan is just inefective in the middle of the park really, we need to be pushing him up higher with another one of our strikers…would have gone for Bambi but not sure now…Best I suppose? How long is Gosling out for now? Maybe slot Barton back into the middle now we no longer need crosses..we need incisive passing or shots..Barton could provide those i guess.

  6. Also forgot to add after the first bit, Duffs goal was VERY fortunate and if the pass was + or – 10% it wouldn’t have come off.

But he’s and ex-mag so is anyone surprised he scored against us. ❓ Pity he could only deflect it into his own net to get us relegated but thats another story eh Damien.

  7. DJG-His pointing to the badge after he scored was pathetic. He said in his post match interview he expected to get grief but that “they were giving it all night, every time i got the ball” or something, as if it was unfair of us so he enjoyed scoring.

What does he expect. The man that did f*ck all bar pick up a pay check in a pathetic team to get us relegated, before going on to claim he wanted to stay and help, doing so by jumping ship the moment he got the chance. Same for Beye, if he ever turned up at SJP again i’d give him grief too.

Toonsy-I’m in exactly the same frame of mind as you too now. I still think we’ll survive, however it will be nowhere near as comfortable as it could have been. It was quite obvious from tonights performance (if you havent seen it yet) that nobodies head was in the game. Everyone looked clueless, it was alot like WBA in that we just didn’t turn up.
Hopefully this doesn’t continue, but we’ve gone from being incredibly optomistic, to losing our leading goalscorer and facing games against Arsenal and the like. Who knows what frame of mind we’ll turn up in for that one but it wont help morale if we’re humiliated. We need to be thinking positive for the business end of the season though, not having players questioning their future etc.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see us drop to hanging perilously over that “relegation battle”, but i think we’ll be able to see it out given our good form earlier on in the season and picking up points in unexpected places.

Losing Shola doesn’t help at all either. You couldn’t make it up.

  8. Also, it could well be me being paranoid but i’m curious. Did anyone else think Pardew just cut a thoroughly depressed figure whenever the camera cut to him? Even at 0-0 he didn’t exactly look positive, and all i really saw of him was a bemused look on his face as he stood with his arms folded.
