Pardew to look at freebies?

Short term deal?
Alan Pardew has admitted he is considering bringing in free agent Jeremie Aliadiere to fill in for the injured Shola Ameobi. Aliadiere is currently unemployed and has been training with former club Middlesbrough in a bid to regain fitness following injury.

Newcastle find themselves light in the striking department with Nile Ranger, Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best the only available senior forwards at the club, following Shola’s facial injury sustained on Wednesday night at Craven Cottage.

Pardew was left with little time to replace Andy Carroll on transfer deadline day. Alan however had stated a couple of weeks ago that he was in fact happy with the strikers situation at Newcastle, hinting that a signing a new striker wasn’t a priority.

Of course Carroll was still a Newcastle player then but was injured at that point and still is, so even if Andy remained at the club we’d still be in the same position we are now squad wise. With Ameobi out injured it once again exposes our lack of strength in depth.

When asked about the possibility of bringing in the former Arsenal and Boro striker Aliadiere on a short term deal Pardew said:

“It is a possibility. We have to explore every avenue. We are short on bodies.”

Jeremie will hardly have Newcastle fans shouting from the rooftops, it would certainly underwhelm most, but as Alan states we do need to fill the squad out a bit. The Frenchman is hardly prolific and is unlikely to score the goals we need, it’s simple we need someone who can score in this league. It’s frustrating that the club didn’t really think the latter fact through when the window was open.

I’m not talking about replacing Carroll, I mean we knew Andy was struggling with injury before he departed and with the greatest of respects to the other strikers at the club they haven’t shown evidence that they can score on a consistent basis. I did an article recently highlighting our current striker’s abilities, I’m not actually complaining about the current crop, do I think Leon has done well recently? Yes I do, but do I think he can score 8-10 goals? No I don’t.

Shola is known for his niggling injuries anyway and I just wonder why this wasn’t taken into account when the transfer window was open and we could do something about it? Even in the dying stages of the window we tried to sign a winger and though we certainly lack creativity at the best of times, surely a center forward should have been the focus.

Anyway window shut and all the above irrelevant now, looking at who’s without a club at the moment could be the short term fix. We probably won’t be able to find the type of player we need right now but with our injury hit squad any extra bodies would surely be welcome? Let’s not forget we are without Hatem Ben Arfa, both Taylors, Dan Gosling, Stephen Ireland and now Ameobi too.

Meanwhile The Daily Mail are today reporting that Newcastle are close agreeing a deal with Rennes midfielder Sylvain Marveaux. The player is out of contract in the summer and is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club. It is claimed by the paper that Newcastle’s chief scout Graham Carr has identified Syvain as Wayne Routledge’s replacement and that the club are close to a deal. Although it’s the Mail so it’s probably about as true to it’s word as Andy Carroll.

  1. My opinion is that you’re getting better at this blogging malarkey!

Haven’t a clue who the French kid is? How old is he?

    As for Aliadiwhatshisface….. Hmmmmmm….

  2. Well done marky.
I really don’t see the point in bringing in another striker just for the sake of numbers. Unless there’s someone out there that the club believe can finish. But then the question must be asked, why are best loven ranger ( 😆 ) in the squad if we need to bring in an unemployed replacement when their numbers need to be called?

  3. If we go by his average then we’re in trouble… He definitely needs to go out on loan next year. Some where where he can play regularly and figure out where the goal is.

  4. Maybe Huddersfield as they should get promoted to the champ. Watched them play arsenal and I think he’d fit in nicely with them. They have a few players that can pick out a cross. 😯

  5. I would be happy with 4 points from the arse and then try to beat Blackburn after they beat us in the reverse fixture. A point from each wouldn’t be bad though. We just need to limp towards 40 points as soon as possible now with the odd lucky win thrown in.

  6. I think we should just get stuck in defensively and just hold possession until something opens up. No more long balls just try to kill games. It’s not sexy but we’re not exactly looking sexy either.
Put ranger up top by himself, and park Tiote in front of the back four.

  7. Oi Oi radgies!!
Just been oot clubbing in Liverpool wi Big Mick, Dekka, Pardsy and Carroll. Proper radge neet!
Carroll and Big Mick were proper off their boxes man.
A kna what ye’s are thinking like, how’s Cazza knocking aboot in Troys crew after he walked oot on the Toon?
A kna but the lads never fell oot man. It was aal a plan from the start. It’s part of Big Mick’s ploy to move in on the Liverpool party scene and tek owa the drugs market.
He’s a proper switched on bloke man Big Mick like and he’s doing it just for aal us in the Toon cos once he takes owa the drug scene he’s ganna ship aal the cheap gear back to the Toon!!
Pure proper forward thinking that like!
Anyway Doylems, godda gan, bizzies banging on the hotel door! Better turn the rave music doon and knock Cazza oot cos he’s spinning like plate!!
    Wooo hoo hoo hooo!
    Laters Gaters!
    Toon Toon!

  9. Apparently the French lad, Sylvain Marveaux has signed the pre-contract.
Someone who is usually reliable on twitter has said, “Heard it from Christian larrson – he’s a former scout usually spot on.”

  10. I know for a fact that we are trying to bring Aladiere here. Pardew met with him yesterday. This has been confirmed by a few trustworthy journalists on Twitter.

  11. some lad on eds is saying barton has told his agent he wants out, might be pure BS like, but wasnt he ment to sign a new deal last week.
the wheels on the big red bus are coming off 😉

  12. So Shola’s out for months and won’t be able to play with a mask. Hope all those that constantly slag him off are glad we’ve got our quality strikers in best, loven and ranger starting and given the chance they deserve oh so much now. Pft.

  13. “Shola is known for his niggling injuries anyway and I just wonder why this wasn’t taken into account when the transfer window was open and we could do something about it?”

Don’t know about that like, so you’re saying we should buy players on the off chance one gets injured? Isn’t that the point of having a squad?

Who’s this Sylvain Marveaux bloke then anyway? He the next Rivaldo? Going to be chesting the ball on the edge of the box and scoring with an over head kick? Cause if not, i’m not impressed!

  14. A winger would be very welcome, as it would allow us to set up for more goals from midfield. I’d be tempted to put Ranger up front for his hold-up play and hope Nolan and Barton can capitalise.

As for strikers, well… if there’s nobody out there who can score more than what we have, then no point. On the other hand, I think my auntie mavis may be a contender on that basis.

  15. Captain Tug Boat will drag us all to safety – divint fear!!! 💡

BTW – I’m the one who taught him them moves!! 😉

  16. Do you think we’re we a bit short sighted with wanting what an ‘out and out winger’?
I was told when I played football a good player can play anywhere on the pitch and do a job, al la Joey Barton now on the right.
I mean Dempsey isn’t exactly a left winger but he looked great on Wednesday night.
Do you need need wingers in your team or is more the type of player they usually are?

  17. Newkiebrown: good point on Shola. His absence in some ways is worse than Carroll’s. At least Shola was available for most matches.. was…. 🙁

  18. I must say, Best had his worst ever game for us against Fulham. Normally I can take the odd positive out of his performance, but he was absolutely diabolical and contributed nothing. Very poor performance.

  19. She Ranger has been selected for the u20’s. What’s the odd on him getting crooked whilst on England duty then!

  20. Once again, embarrassing that we’re dipping into players who don’t even have a club a matter of days after the transfer window shut but thats how Ashley works. We should all be used to feeling like right mugs these days!

      (Quote)

  21. “We are short on numbers”

Well who’s fault is that, Alan? Ask your bosses, as they have once again quite royally screwed this club and it’s supporters.

  22. The sale of Carroll will have far reaching ramifications.

The likes of Barton and Enrique will be looking at what has happened and thinking “Do I really want to stay here and win fck all?” They may well refuse to even discuss new contracts until they see if the money will b e spentin the summer, this in itself is a problem as it will only encourage others to bid for them. We all know what happens when a club bid for one of our players…

If I was them and the likes of Vuckic I would be looking at the ambition of the club and wanting to leave.

If anyone thinks that the £35m will be spent on improving the squad significantly you’re all deluded!

      (Quote)

  23. someone on another site heard that barton called pardew a sell out,if true joey will be gone in the summer 🙁

  24. Whumpie-Aye, if carroll was gonna be out for 5 weeks anyway I didn’t see a problem, had confidence Shola could lead the line, he he real quality getting on the end of crosses and corners so our set piece would still be dangerous. Now though, we’re gonna have to re invent somehow, aerially we’re quite crippled.

  25. Can’t find a clip to show the lads at work of Leon Best’s skill in the corner against Fulham. Anyone know where?

No doubt on soccer AM next week

  26. It was actually an amazing turn he did, timed to perfection around a sliding tackle, guarentee it will be on soccer AM.

I didn’t know he had it in him to be honest

  27. coz i think this is the 1 bit of business every1 who supports the club didnt want to see. so if the 3 yr deal ends this yr then i can see boycotts and a steppin up of protests when the fatman spends 10 mill of the AC sale during the summer. maybe he wants the books to look good nd is thinking of sellin up?

  28. i think if best gets service to his feet then he’ll score. ok not as prolific at our previous striker but i do think he can put ball in net

doesnt the infamous 3 yr season ticket deal end this season?

Yes and there’s going to be one hell of an exedus and can you blame anyone? This isn’t supposed to be a one way street. I personally would like something in return for the money I spend every year. Even if it is just hope!

  30. Re Barton supposedly wanting out, what if the board dont want to keep paying his wages and are able to get a cash return on him?
Wouldnt suprise me in the slightest.

      (Quote)

  31. Johnny – I agree. I’ve been impressed with Best. Maybe it’s because I never expected anything from him anyway? 😆

As for the season tickets, obviously it’s pointless me getting one due to work/distance, but I’ll still be going to games whenever I can, which costs about £150 a pop when petrol is added and what not.

NUFC is my team and I will still be there to support them. I’ve been through tougher times than this, and will more than likely go through them again. HWTL!!!

      (Quote)

  32. Bobby – Wouldn’t get much of a return on him in the summer considering he would only have 12 months left on his contract.

  33. I think Barton and Enrique will both sign.
Anyone have an opinion on Marveaux? Reports have been gathering pace and he seems set to join.

  34. True Cropper, I did. Never stopped supporting the team away from home though 😉

I did go to two home games that season mind. Reading (home) and Sheffield United.

  36. Chatting with a mate of mine today who can’t help but look at everything with the cold heart of a businessman.

He thinks this is the perfect time for Ashley to sell now. That he’s been prepping the club for this time, much lower overheads, solidish mid-table Premiership club, youth system with some potential so it is a much better prospect for a future buyer, plus now he can walk away with a nice little 35 million bonus in his pocket.

Based on Ashley’s previous actions he reckons nothing would surprise him more than Ashley spending the Carroll money, what would surprise him least is Ashley selling up between now and the end of the summer.

  37. They’re mainly toon supporters Toonsy. Apart from the odd mackem, (which is the same in Newcastle, so put yur banjo’s and pitchforks doon North Tyneside ppl 😈 )

Most heed fans actually support the toon as their ‘big’ club and the heed as their 2nd club. 🙂

To be honest, I would like to see Birmingham beat West Ham. I don’t think Birmingham will be relegated and would like any head of steam West Ham aim to create very much nipped in the bud.

  39. Best’s turn was brilliant, but alas what came after was about the same as the rest of his… and everybody’s.. game: a wasted opportunity.

I thought Ranger’s one go at goal was excellent; only just saved by the ‘keeper. To turn and get one on goal with some oomph was really going some.

But overall we looked like what we are – a decent team in all respects except strikers. It was boys against men at the front.

  40. Toonsy – How are they puffs? Enlighten me. My mental image of a heed fan is a man who’s so into footie he supports 2 clubs, or again so into footy he supports a conference club.

  42. Ranger will be desperate to play against his boyhood team but I’m afraid I agree with Pardew, the lad still has a lot to learn. When I watch Ranger im impressed by how fast his feet are and dissapointed by how slow / lacking his football brain is. For me Best to play the first 70mins and Lovenkrands the last 20. With Nolan moved up into the ‘hole’. Tiote the tank back aswell. 🙂
