Ewerthon interested in Toon switch?

heart the chance to play in England.
Newcastle are reportedly interested in bringing free agent Ewerthon to St James’ Park. The 29-year-old Brazilian is a free agent after leaving former club Palmeiras by mutual consent a couple of weeks back.

Ewerthon is a name that a few Newcastle fans have talked about as a player that can come in and do a job for the club. Newcastle find themselves in a dubious position regarding strikers, with Shola picking up an injury adding to the January exits of Judas and Spanish flop Xisco it certainly leaves us short of options. Leon Best also appeared to be struggling with a hamstring injury yesterday shortly before being replaced by Danny Guthrie.

Of course the transfer window is closed now and looking at the unemployed is our only real option, although I’m not too sure how bad the situation can get before emergency loan is acceptable? If Leon’s injury is going to keep him sidelined then we are left with only Peter Lovenkrands and young Nile Ranger.

We are approaching a very important stage of the season and have some forthcoming fixtures that are winnable in my opinion. We need to take that fight and spirit from yesterday into every game now, but we need more firepower to go with it – another body or two to take the pressure off the few lads we do have fit at the moment.

It has been reported that Ewerthon is attracting a lot of interest worldwide, but Newcastle are apparently at the front of the queue for the 29 year old. The player’s agent told Sky Sports;

”It is no secret that a number of Premier League clubs are keen on him. I am not going to go into details about who we are talking with, but if you’re asking me about whether he would move to Newcastle? Then yes, obviously they are a calibre of club he would very much consider playing for.”

West Brom were linked with the free agent last week, but with the news that boss Roberto Di Matteo has been sacked this afternoon there is sure to be a bit of uncertainty surrounding The Midlands club at the moment. With this being said, Aston Villa still signed Stephen Ireland whilst being managerless, and as the statement from the player’s agent states, the player is attracting a lot of interest.

Newcastle can hopefully act fast on this one and with Ewerthon seemingly interested in making the move. I think it could certainly benefit both parties should a deal be agreed. I reckon it would be a decent bit of business and the capture of Ewerthon would certainly appeal to me more than Jeremie Aliadiere who has also been linked to Newcastle in recent days.

What do you think?

  2. Some amusing bets on offer: Torres is 16/1 to kiss the badge if he scores and Jamie Carragher is 6/1 to be booked first after fouling Torres.

  3. Barton told NUFC TV: “As far as I’m aware, I had agreed in principle to sign a deal. I want to stay at this football club – I have stated that on numerous occasions.

“When stuff happens like what happened during the week, then obviously you think, ‘Hang on a minute, what is going on here? Is this the right move? Is this the right decision to make?’.

“But I am enjoying my football here. I love living in the city, the fans are brilliant with me – I feel I am building a real rapport with them.

“Obviously I am disappointed that Andy has gone, as are a number of people in there, because we felt he was a big part of us building a successful football club.

“But I am told they are going to re-invest the money and as long as that happens, I don’t think there will be a problem if they invest the money quite wisely.

“But that’s not my job, my job is to turn up and play football. I did think a little bit, ‘Is this the right move to make?’, but I owe a lot to this football club for giving me the chances after I have let them down in the past.

“The fans are different class with me and I am keen to stay.

“It makes a massive statement to everyone if I was to not sign a contract and say, ‘I am going to wait’ and blah, blah, blah. Maybe a few other people would be waiting and saying, ‘Let’s just see what’s going to happen’.

“But I am keen to get it signed, draw a line under it and let’s start moving this football club back in the right direction.”

    I LOVE HIM πŸ™‚
