No call up for Joey.

Due a call up?
What an afternoon for everyone associated with Newcastle United. We were able to battle back against all odds to get a well earned draw with title hopefuls Arsenal.

No one needs me to tell them how pony the first half performance was today, a half that saw us 4-0 down at St James’ Park within 26 minutes. It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall in that dressing room at half time. Needless to say Pardew probably gave the lads a much needed kick up the backside.

It was an afternoon in which Joey Barton’s qualities were there for the world to see once again. The midfielder was inspirational today, not only did he put away two penalty kicks nicely but he lead by example through out the game. He is a natural leader, I always look to see Joey’s reaction when we score or concede and his passion and dedication to the game is apparent. He is also the type to tell a team mate when they have done something right or wrong.

The Liverpudlian covered a lot of ground today as always and won’t ever shy away from putting in a tackle, add this with his excellent range of passing and ability to get forward and strike the ball. Joey has a great shot on him and probably deserves more than his 4 league goals this season, in Barton we have a complete midfielder. Of course Joey has spent much of the season out on the right, but today Pardew opted with playing him in his preferred central role along side the excellent Tiote.

This evening the England squad for the Denmark fixture was announced. Could it be that Joey’s excellent form would be finally recognised and rewarded with a well deserved call up? No is the short and unfortunate answer to that question. You see Barton hasn’t always been able to keep his act clean both on and off the pitch and this has seemingly hindered his chances of an England call up.

Postman Pat’s twin and England boss Fabio Capello seems very reluctant to add to Joey’s solitary England cap. We all know that Mr Barton isn’t afraid to speak his mind and has recently staked his claim for a call up, in Joey we have a lad who’s confident in his ability and when he plays like he has been this season why shouldn’t he be confident?

Sure, Barton has seen the red mist this season when he lashed out at that bleached gimp Morten Gamst Pederson during the 2-1 home loss to Blackburn. However on the whole I think it’s fair to say Joey has toned down a little, we all remember the treatment he received at Wolves. Karl Henry anyone? Despite blatant attempts to wind Barton up that afternoon he walked away every time, much like how he did today with Diaby when the Arsenal midfielder lashed out at him.

But if we are going on record of player’s reputations- disciplinary issues and off field affairs haven’t stopped Capello selecting other players. Jack Wilshere-accused of hitting a woman, John Terry- serial shagger and home wrecker, Steven Gerrard- DJ assaulter, Wayne Rooney- hooker enthusiast, Andy Carroll- crimes against hairstyles. You get the picture, the list goes on. What exactly is Fabio’s beef with Barton? On current form it’s amazing how he continues to be overlooked.

Danny Simpson is another player who is improving by the week in my eyes, England lack a good natural right back in my opinion. Johnson has ability going forward, but I don’t think much of his defending which is problematic when your a full back. I think Simmo would have been a good shout for this England squad, but instead Capello opted for Kyle Walker, the Spurs full-back who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.

What do you think? Farce that Joey misses out again? Although I cant say I’m overly surprised.

  1. Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko says that he is unhappy with life on the bench and will look to leave the club in the summer.

Lads, what do you lot think about Him,still worth getting Him? 😕 ❓

  2. AOD – Madness about Di Matteo, but good news for us in my opinion 😉

As for Pav, still not sure about him. He seems to shot all the time when it isn’t always the best option.
