Cheik Tiote hopes for Newcastle stay.

Psst Cesc....I'm about to score a screamer sunshine.
This is a special article for me, I have reached a milestone 20 articles now on .info, I’m no where near Toonsy’s 100 odd but as long as you continue to read then I will continue to write. It’s also my birthday tomorrow (sadly) so I wanted the article to be a happy one.

Joey Barton delighted Newcastle fans following the epic draw with Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, with the announcement that he wants to remain on Tyneside and pen a new contract. Joey was of course praising the club prior to the sale of Andy Carroll, stating it was moving in the right direction. Many people, including myself, were concerned that Barton and many senior stars would see Carroll’s sale as a backwards step and would show a huge lack of ambition.

It’s a relief that Joey sees his future at Newcastle and it’s good news he hasn’t had a change of heart about committing himself to the club. Barton has been in fine form and is one of the first names on the team sheet these days at St James’ Park. Another player who has been pivotal this season is a man named Cheik Tiote, a £3.5 million signing from F.C Twente.

Cheik’s wonderful equaliser against Arsenal on Saturday sums up the lad, who just oozes with quality. He seems to have it all and reminds me a lot of Chelsea’s Michael Essien. The Ivory Coast international isn’t short of admirers, and if you have a player performing the way that Tiote has this season it’s only a matter of time before the big boys pounce.

Chelsea and Manchester United are amongst the Clubs allegedly keeping tabs on the classy midfielder with both teams linked with summer moves. This is always a worry as we all know money talks and player’s heads are turned. It’s at that point egos are on show and player’s believe their own hype and want moves. Luckily all the transfer speculation hasn’t phased Cheik and the player hopes to stay in the North East. Today Cheik spoke to The Evening Chronicle, when asked if he wanted to stay with Newcastle following Carroll’s departure he said;

“I hope so.

“These are exciting times for the club.

“We have to work together if we want to go forward.

“We have to work as a team – it’s not only about one player.

“I think Newcastle have many good players, and if we work together, it will be a good future.”

Tiote continued;

“I’m happy. I’m enjoying it at Newcastle, and I have to keep working.

“There are still plenty of games for us to look forward to and win. Ben Arfa’s coming back, and it’s good for us. We need a striker.”

Sounds as if the 24-year-old midfielder is looking forward to having the brilliant Ben Arfa back too. The French international will certainly add some spark and flair to the team, the thought of Tiote and Benny in the middle of the park is very exciting.

Cheik concluded;

“I am trying to prove to everyone what I can do.”

Great words from Tiote who has become a firm fans favourite amongst The Toon Army and what he has already proved is that he always offers a committed and whole-hearted performance. It’s evident the club means a lot to the player, and you could tell that from the way he celebrated his late equaliser on Saturday. It’s great news the lad wants to be a part of this team and is happy at the club.

With the likes of Joey and Cheik on the board the future is certainly bright IF the club don’t cash in on such talent. These are two of a few players that I’d want to build a team around, although should we be sceptical? Words are cheap. There was a Geordie fanatic who made promises and assurances to the fans after being given the much respected number 9 shirt. That Geordie fanatic is now a Liverpool player.

Footballer’s are fickle and like we all keep saying money talks, however I am pleased to hear that Cheik is settled on Tyneside and as things stand he sees his future in the black and white stripes on Newcastle United.

Thoughts as always please lovely people.

  1. RICHIE you started you packing yet for your move ❓

    dont forget batty does good rates on containers,even moves them for you when full 😀

  2. Don’t know if it’s owt to do with ambition, it’s highly unlikely there are many quality players who have no clubs at the moment. All we’ll be looking for is someone who’s happy to warm the bench for a few coppers ’til the end of the season.

  3. I remember people acting a similar way when Sibierski signed 😉

    End of the day it’s not like we’ve signed him on a five year deal is it? I very much doubt he’ll play, but he is a number through the door.

  4. Aye me too, I’v got refresher track training for the metro system even though I finish on Wednesday..go figure 😕 👿

  5. Hi guys. Tiote and Barton together is one of the best parings in the league! Add to that the goal scoring abilities of Nolan and the sheer brilliance of Ben Arfa and you have one hell of a midfield on our hands 😮

  6. toonsy – Yeah we have a very strong midfield and regardless of what he’s done at Villa i really like Ireland and if he can recapture his form at city we have another great player. I read also on talkSPORT that Lazio were preparing a 8m bid for Jonas but they were writing it as if we were desperate to keep him..

  7. Devon…seen more or less the same article but different source, nowwhere on either does the agent or player say they’ve rejected the offer from Newcastle, wouldn’t take much notice of it mate 😉

  8. mate, make it a special one. on my 18th i got so wasted, i clapsed in our drive where i was repeatedly sick and singing blaydon races at top of my lungs, i woke up on my parents couch with unimpressed parentals.
    legendary night 🙂

  9. Seems like we might be getting that Finnish bloke then eh…Not really sure what to think…even if its just a precautionary measure, I’d rather see us play a 5 man midfield with Nolan as a striker than have to resort to championship cast offs…saying that I don’t really know anything about the bloke other than youtube videos and the fact that he’s old which suggests lack of speed….does anyone remember him/know him much from the fizzy pop?

  10. Looks like Hughton is going to West Brom, gonna be an interesting last game of the season. Would be a great way to end the season with Chrissy in the stadium.

  11. Honestly, if a player is more worried about partying in London , or having a posh place to shop, than the football he is committing to then he can fook off. 🙄

  12. I can understand not wanting to play for the scum, but if you don’t get motivated playing in front of the greatest support in the world then your not a proper footballer. Your just a gifted tosser waste of talent not worth the plastic they use to put your name on the back of a shirt.
    To compare the 2 clubs as equals in the pursuit to attract talent is a massive joke.
