This is a special article for me, I have reached a milestone 20 articles now on .info, I’m no where near Toonsy’s 100 odd but as long as you continue to read then I will continue to write. It’s also my birthday tomorrow (sadly) so I wanted the article to be a happy one.
Joey Barton delighted Newcastle fans following the epic draw with Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, with the announcement that he wants to remain on Tyneside and pen a new contract. Joey was of course praising the club prior to the sale of Andy Carroll, stating it was moving in the right direction. Many people, including myself, were concerned that Barton and many senior stars would see Carroll’s sale as a backwards step and would show a huge lack of ambition.
It’s a relief that Joey sees his future at Newcastle and it’s good news he hasn’t had a change of heart about committing himself to the club. Barton has been in fine form and is one of the first names on the team sheet these days at St James’ Park. Another player who has been pivotal this season is a man named Cheik Tiote, a £3.5 million signing from F.C Twente.
Cheik’s wonderful equaliser against Arsenal on Saturday sums up the lad, who just oozes with quality. He seems to have it all and reminds me a lot of Chelsea’s Michael Essien. The Ivory Coast international isn’t short of admirers, and if you have a player performing the way that Tiote has this season it’s only a matter of time before the big boys pounce.
Chelsea and Manchester United are amongst the Clubs allegedly keeping tabs on the classy midfielder with both teams linked with summer moves. This is always a worry as we all know money talks and player’s heads are turned. It’s at that point egos are on show and player’s believe their own hype and want moves. Luckily all the transfer speculation hasn’t phased Cheik and the player hopes to stay in the North East. Today Cheik spoke to The Evening Chronicle, when asked if he wanted to stay with Newcastle following Carroll’s departure he said;
“I hope so.
“These are exciting times for the club.
“We have to work together if we want to go forward.
“We have to work as a team – it’s not only about one player.
“I think Newcastle have many good players, and if we work together, it will be a good future.”
“I’m happy. I’m enjoying it at Newcastle, and I have to keep working.
“There are still plenty of games for us to look forward to and win. Ben Arfa’s coming back, and it’s good for us. We need a striker.”
Sounds as if the 24-year-old midfielder is looking forward to having the brilliant Ben Arfa back too. The French international will certainly add some spark and flair to the team, the thought of Tiote and Benny in the middle of the park is very exciting.
“I am trying to prove to everyone what I can do.”
Great words from Tiote who has become a firm fans favourite amongst The Toon Army and what he has already proved is that he always offers a committed and whole-hearted performance. It’s evident the club means a lot to the player, and you could tell that from the way he celebrated his late equaliser on Saturday. It’s great news the lad wants to be a part of this team and is happy at the club.
With the likes of Joey and Cheik on the board the future is certainly bright IF the club don’t cash in on such talent. These are two of a few players that I’d want to build a team around, although should we be sceptical? Words are cheap. There was a Geordie fanatic who made promises and assurances to the fans after being given the much respected number 9 shirt. That Geordie fanatic is now a Liverpool player.
Footballer’s are fickle and like we all keep saying money talks, however I am pleased to hear that Cheik is settled on Tyneside and as things stand he sees his future in the black and white stripes on Newcastle United.
Thoughts as always please lovely people.
