Newcastle must show some ambition in the summer!

Newcastle need to show ambition to keep these two.
The current Newcastle United squad has been a pleasant surprise this season.

They have exceeded the expectation of most, and have shown that we may not have too far to go, talent wise, towards building a strong competitive team.

This summer will be critical in that progression. With some of our key players in or around the age of 30, we need to add youthful quality to pass on the torch, so to speak. We also need to add to the playing squad in order to keep our current crop of younger players in their prime.

I’m mostly talking about Jose Enrique and Cheik Tiote of course. There will certainly be significant bids for them in the summer and I don’t think anyone could hold any grudges with them if they decided to move on to a club that is on a bigger stage.

Neither of them owe the club anything, and they are right to feel that the club must prove to them that it’s going in the direction where they want to be, like at the top of the game for example.

They are both in their prime so it’s a critical time for them. An opportunity to play your best years, competing for trophies in exchange for a roller-coaster of mediocrity is hard to turn down.

It’s kind of odd to think of a left-back and a defensive midfielder as being so vital to a club, but in both cases, I believe it to be true.

Not only is Jose Enrique one of our most consistently creative players, but he also completely affects the game plan of opposition, making even the best of teams question whether they dare to challenge his flank.

Tiote’s effect in the squad is critical in our ability to control possession. He is a ball winner and also very tidy with his passing. If you win the possession battle, you will often get a positive result.

They are both rare finds and won’t be replaced easily especially because of their great attitudes, willingness to get stuck in and their work rates.

They may have already made up their minds and are ready to cash-in on their hard work, but the club most try to convince them that Newcastle is where their future lies. Adding a player like Gervinho, who Tiote himself rated as someone he would like to see at the club when he first arrived, would help towards keeping our midfield lion. Adding a more effective partner for The Bull on the left along with better strike options, may sway him to stay as well.

But as we’ve seen in the past, sometimes players just want to be paid their considered worth. Whether or not the club is willing to meet their demands is another question.

Is the club ready keep it’s star players, or was the January window signs of what’s to come this summer?

  1. Why, does that bloke on sky say he “feels” for the ones who left early and missed the “excitement|\2 at the end…..bollox, if ya leave early, you deserve everything you get ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

  2. That’s a great save from Cech on our part, if Fulham won we would have moved into the bottom half which is when people start instantly looking at the bottom of the table.

Iโ€™m lazy not stupid<<<< its not what toonsy has just told me ,he sed your thick as fck ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Torres just needs to get the monkey of his back, like our Ranger and then he will fly. Luiz is a steal at ยฃ24 million on that showing and its him that will get them the extra mile. The forward line was just too greedy, like the anti-arsenal. Arsenal wana walk it in and Chelski shoot from 40 yards!

Tiote would fit in with that philosophy though eh ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Ye well Betty,

  11. Every player has a price, and i suppose it makes sense to get as much as we can for any player who wants out…although i desparately hope enrique and barton will exten their contracts….can it even be hoped we will hang onto our best players in the face of mass competition?

  12. Your right that if a player wants to go then getting the best price is a must, though to show ambition we need to be keeping Enrique and Tiote. Bartons been great this year, but I dont think he is as important to hold onto as Tiote and Enrique, simply because we have others who could fill in for Barton but we really miss Tiote or Enrique when they are absent.

That said I want Barton to stay. I cant blame any player for wanting to see how much cash Pards is allowed to spend, and who he spends it on. It is paramount that it is invested on young hungry and talented players, but those like Wolfswinkle, Wickham, Sakho, Lukaku, etc, those who could improve us and take us to the next level.

  13. Ambition?

That’s an alien concept for Mike Ashley and NUFC.

He’s never shown it so far, so why should he start now?

Pardew is making all the noises about the owner backing him in the summer, but so has every manager we’ve had under Ashley.

I will believe it when I see it.

Personally I don’t believe a fcking word they say and expect us to sign two or three players with a net profit on transfers of approximately ยฃ20m.

  14. Reet off to work, meeting all morning. Then straight doon Brum.
If anyone is interested in the spare ticket (ยฃ28) then Toonsy has my phone number.
    Enjoy the match.HWTL
