Is Peter Crouch on Pardew’s wish list?

Peter Crouch packing his bags and heading up North?
There have been a couple of stories in the local papers today suggesting that Spurs hit man Peter Crouch could be a target for Newcastle this summer.

The Evening Chronicle claim that Newcastle will be offered the services of the lanky striker as well as a number of other clubs. The paper goes on to say that Crouch was available in January and apparently the player was open to the idea of a switch to Newcastle. Presumably this was during the time that Tottenham were chasing then Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, Peter knew he was being touted as bait in any potential deal.

Aston Villa and Stoke are amongst the other clubs said to be interested in Peter as the player prepares to move on during the next transfer window. A source today told The Chronicle;

“As far as Peter Crouch is concerned, he will be offered to a number of clubs in the Premier League in the summer. It would not be wrong to suggest some of those clubs linked with him in January will be in there again.”

Crouch would certainly offer Newcastle aerial presence, something we have sorely missed since the loss of Judas. With Carroll in the team we looked dangerous from free kicks and set pieces, however that’s not something we’ve really been able to duplicate in recent weeks. Although let’s not discredit our current strikers who have played well and got some goals for the team.

Peter is a player that has been linked with the club several times in past seasons, and I remember Glenn Roeder was a huge admirer of the beanpole striker. I personally think Crouch is the type of the player we need at the moment and would certainly benefit from Joey Barton’s excellent delivery.

With this said, I know he will have his critics and lots of Toon fans probably won’t want Peter here. I however think that, if done at the right price, it could be a good bit of business. Peter is of course a full England international with an excellent goal return for his country.

At this stage it’s mere paper talk and no doubt the scouting team and Alan Pardew are working hard to identify potential targets for the summer. I reckon Pards would love to see Peter arrive, after all Crouch’s Mrs is a bit of a looker

What do you think?

  2. i didn’t know Kevin Keegan sh0 multi-talented
    he can sing too

    😯

Was he a singer before he plays as a footballer or after he retire.SHOCKING TO KNOW. 😆

  3. I personally reckon he would be a decent signing and a step up from what we have as long as we sign someone like Gervinho to do his running for him, I would offer twitchy £10m for Crouch and Kranjcar…

  4. Crouch isn’t a player I personally admire. You can’t doubt his record though.

I would prefer some Euopean talant over this guy. I would however give him my full support should be deside to pull on a black and white shirt.

I would like to sign that Van Wolfswinkle (spelling) guy who we were linked with a while back. Gervinho would be canny too and might keep Tiote here a little bit longer as well.

  6. Crouch and Gervinho would be a couple of good signings I reckon, a step up in terms of quality that we have right now up front.

Ho much you reckon Crouch would cost? How long he got left on his contract? Can’t imagine Spurs being to nice to us after the prices we were touting for Carroll like

  7. I like Crouch, but he is on the back end of his career. I’d be happier having a younger squad that will have lads that can slot in at a position for more than a few years and provide the stability needed to achieve top finishes and European qualification.

  8. I would be rather happy with a strike force of Crouch,Gervinho, Best, Ranger, Shola….just don’t break the bank for Crouch unless Kranjcar is coming too.

  9. CC – But the tendency to “lump it up to the big man” will always be there with someone like Crouch. I never liked us doing it when we had Carroll as he was better than that, and we all knew it, but it still happened. The same would happen again IMO.

We are plying some good stuff at the minute and our attacks come from different kinds of attacks. I like this better to be honest.

  10. Divn’t nah like ice, Kuqi 89yrs old, Campbell 409yrs old, if the deals right, and Pardew can convince him it’s the right move, I think he’ll go for it.

  11. Cisse on a free, with Connar Wickham and Gervinho, aye i’d have that like.

Cisse is obviously a massive twat though isn’t he

  12. canny picture of crouch you’ve found there MarkToon 🙂 don’t really want him though. We need a great goal scorer. Just don’t know who that might be, because with this new strategy we are not going to pay over odds for players.

  13. Crouch just doesn’t fit with club recruitment strategy, so forget it. The club will continue to look for more in the mould of Tiote and Benny – and quite rightly IMO.

I used to like Crouch until the ‘prossiegate’ thing. By footballer standards he’s very intelligent – it’s why I like the guy – but what an utter prat to go shagging about.

It’s no wonder England were utter noobs at the WC; we now know half the squad had other things on their minds – and that’s just the half we KNOW about!!

Sorry… Soap box. Anyway – nah. Not the right player, although we could do a lot worse.

  14. Anyone else think Carroll could be so miserable by the summer that he pushes for a move back home? He must already be fed up of people nicking the chrome of his Range Rooney.

  15. Sorry, AOD – but you could at least put something in to do with the article before trying to spin the discussion off on your own agenda. Seems a bit disrespectful to the writer, that’s all. Sorry to get on yer back about it, but that’s probably why you didn’t get any responses.

  16. Steady on Whumpie. People can talk about what they want can’t they?

AOD – I know nothing about it, but I assume that it will be no different to any other competition where young players compete against each other. There’ll be tons of them about I guess mate, but it just happens that our lads are playing in this one 🙂

  17. Think Pardew would like to go for Crouch, but his age and wage demands would prevent it happening. Pretty sure Crouch will be looking for a last big pay deal more as a priority than who he plays for.
Anyway if he was that good why are Spuds so keen to off load him ???
NO, we should stick to the current policy if possible.

  18. Whumpie @34 either that or L’poo want their money back after realising they have bought a perma crock 😯 😯

  19. Keep your eyes on N’Doye tonight. I am excited to see how he fares against Terry/Ivanovic. N’Doye has been an absolut beast this season for Copenhagen. Wouldn’t mind going for him in the summer. wouldn’t cost much either. Strong athletic forward with an definate eye for goal.

      (Quote)

  20. APP – yea I reckon we will be getting someone like that.

That we have never heard of even 😯

A bit like HBA/Tiote deals

A big gamble tho that they can make it in the PL, so maybe an experienced young PL player aswell.

      (Quote)

  21. Beardsleys Boots – But that is also the best kind of deal. Finding someone in Europe for a couple of mil instead of double figure flops. But agree with buying experienced young PL players, but who? and they are sure to be more expensesive. I think we should look at Gosling like that signing 🙂

  22. @ 37 well said – i’d rather read AOD non-related posts than suffer the drivel whimper puts us through – to be honest when i see his name i just skip onto the next post.

  23. Toonsy & AOD – sorry; didn’t mean to come down hard; was just trying to explain the lack of responses.

And nope, I’ve got no idea about this tournament either.

    AlanPardewProject: excellent screen name!

  24. GOD NO, at the back end of his career, and he’s not been firing this season(except in europe – but that’s no good to us). Premier league defences have sussed his playing style IMO, and reduced his effectiveness. I’d like someone with pace, power and an eye for goal, it wont come cheap, but we’ve (supposedly) got a fair bit of cash to spend.

      (Quote)

  25. Say Crouch and Wickham both cost 10 million who would you prefer?

I wouldn’t complain if we did get Crouch me but I would prefer Carr to scout someone younger.

      (Quote)

  26. Wickham for sure. Seems like a good strong player able to hold the ball and score goals. He would just need a more athletic partner and we are rolling.

      (Quote)

  27. Never been a massive fan of crouchy really, the Timmy comparison is very apt although I’ve always thought of him as a Daddy long-legs with his wings pulled off on an LSD trip. Still for a very low cash sum I’d probably take him-but tottenham will probably want about 8mil or something ridiculous for him which he just aint worth.
Wickham would be brilliant, but would he come? He’d also cost about 10mil and would be another investment buy when what we really need is a proven PL scorer…

      (Quote)

  28. Don’t think crouch is a good idea as we’ll revert to lumping it upfield, I thought kranjcar was out of contract come summer – not sure why people think it’s a good idea to give spurs money for a free agent

      (Quote)

  29. Whumpie: Seriously, you want me comment of stuff such as peter crouch coming to Newcastle? 🙄 😆

Then i would rather Per Mertesacker coming to Newcastle. 😎
