Taylor: “The future is bright under Alan Pardew.”

Taylor gives Pardew the thumbs up.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Steven Taylor. There was once a time where you couldn’t shut him up and every journalist seemed to be able to coax a little titbit from Taylor. Even Louise Taylor managed it…..

Since then though it’s been an altogether quieter approach from the London-born defender. This is a welcome change as the drum banging, which some liked and for which Kevin Nolan now gets lambasted for, had become rather tedious. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to hear it, sometimes, but not all the time!

Anyway, Taylor has been telling us all today how he feels that the future could be bright under Alan Pardew and believes that the team are playing the right kind of football at the moment. Speaking to The Chronicle, Taylor had this to say:

“The future is bright under Alan Pardew, and I have the best years of my career still in front of me – and I want them to be here. I want to play the next five and a half years here and then hopefully the rest of my career after that. That’s all I have ever wanted.”

Those are good words from Taylor, and I’m happy that he is happy. I have been critical of him in the past, but he proved me wrong by agreeing a new deal at the club when I thought that he would be gone. I still have reservations about his ability and tendency to suffer from a rush of blood to the head, but on his day he can be a real asset to the team.

Taylor then went on to praise Pardew for getting his contract sorted, and for trying to play the right kind of football:

“It’s the best feeling ever. The new gaffer came in and everything was sorted. I’m all set up now and excited about the future. That is my main focus now. I’m concentrated on the long term.”

“We’re doing the right things and looking to play the right type of football. That’s what we want. The main thing is we’re playing well and we have put some good results together.”

“We had a hard-fought win against Birmingham and those are the teams we should be beating. Anybody below us or around us we’re looking for a big result. We want to get a bit of a gap going.”

“We’ve got some big games coming up here and this isn’t an easy place to come still.”

Good words from Taylor, and I personally find it hard to disagree with any of what he says. Do I think we are playing some good football under Pardew? Yes. Do I think our results have been decent? Yes. Do I think Pardew is the future? Time will tell on that one, but I’ve managed to get over my initial feeling of being underwhelmed by his appointment and have been impressed with him so far.

They can all, collectively, continue to impress us by beating Everton on Saturday!
