Will the 3pm home jinx continue?

ARRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
The mystery of Newcastle United’s home form is something that is confusing to say the least.

It’s the home form that has been the achilles heel for us this season, which seems strange to say considering that we have beaten West Ham 5-0, smashed Aston Villa 6-0 and wiped the floor with the filth 5-1. All of those fixtures have one thing in common though, and that is the fact that none of them were played on a Saturday at 3pm.

It’s been 30 months since we last won a Saturday 3pm kick-off at St James’ Park in the Premier League. Of course that particular stat has been extended by our year long exile in The Championship, but it’s still a pretty grim statistic all the same.

I look back at the games against Blackpool, Wigan, even Bolton just gone, and think that we should have done that bit better at home against these teams. All of them were played at 3pm on a Saturday.

Am I worried that this run will stay with us forever more? Of course I’m not as I know that it will end at some point. The law of averages dictates that it will end at some point. However, collectively we have to hope that this particular barren run comes to an end soon, hopefully as soon as this Saturday when Everton travel to St James’ Park for, yep you’ve guessed it, another Saturday 3pm kick-off.

If this run doesn’t end soon then we face the very real prospect of wasting what has been a decent season. I’m struggling to remember the last time we picked up so many points away from home in a season, which means that it would be a crying shame if we wasted the chance to build on the pretty good away form that has been racked up so far this season.

Newcastle have ten games left, five away and five at home, and of those five home games we have three that will take place on a Saturday at 3pm. Surely we have to win one of them?

If we don’t, then we don’t deserve to be in the top ten!

  2. Don’t know, Ice – but I think we’ll scrape a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Ok, so theories as to why the 3pm jinx exists.

Number 1: The team get pissed on Friday nights.. if they’re not away in another city
Number 2: The team get laid on Saturday mornings.. if they’re not away at another ground
Number 3: They’re all, um, Jewish and don’t like to work hard on a Saturday..??? 😳

    Ok, I’m really struggling!

  4. I have a feeling that Everton will park the bus on Saturday, which is why I reckon that it’ll be a score draw and the curse will continue for now.

On a positive note though, we can all laugh at Shola’s mask.

  6. I’ve just done a quick check through the remaining fixtures, and I think we’ll get another 14 points if we’re lucky; 10 if we’re not. In any other season that’d be the difference between a solid mid-table finish and, um, a solid mid-table finish. This season, 46 points gets roughly the same – but 50 could be interesting.

  7. Everton have a pretty good squad, but they seem to have lost their mojo this season. I can’t see this one being a classic, and it depends on whether our strikers can improve their accuracy. Their shots on target ratio last week was cow’s-****-and-banjo material. 🙁

  8. WHUMPIE i think moyes has gone a bit stale of late mate, think he might move on this next season imo

  9. I think that’ll only get us about 8th, but that would still be quite an achievement, and something to build on. It may also help to keep some of our itchy players; show them they don’t need to leave to play in Europe.

To get sixth, we need a couple of unlikely results (e.g. Beat Liverpool again) and for Andy Carroll to remain crocked or (pleeeease) discover that he’s ***** playing in anything but black and white.

    Oh, the humanity… 😈

  12. I’m wondering if he IS a bookie. Deliberately steering us off-course and on to longer-odds bets. 😉

  13. well with the injuries that everton have suffered i think we may win the game on saturday, got to renember there main star left too (penair).

  14. Any news on Joey’s injury? I don’t like the silence…

If he’s crocked, it opens up some interesting options. Jonas on RW, Fergie on LW? 4-3-3 with no RW at all and hope Simpson can do a job?

  15. Oh, good. He can always get a job in a music studio somewhere…

Not sure he could resist the urge to kick the singer in the nuts occasionally, though…

  16. Anyone else chuffed that Everton had a midweek game and we didn’t? Mind you, most teams use that break as a rest whereas we use it as an opportunity to forget how to play football 🙄

  17. Wonder what the response will be from Everton after losing that game with a full strength side….no doubt they got their arses kicked for that. Can’t see where their goals are going to come from if we contain Saha. Arteta has a good set piece but has been well off form.

  18. I think Tiote will have Arteta in his pocket, and I think without that Saha won’t be able to get the service. We’ll need to watch that Coleman and be wary of giving away free-kicks near the box with Baines about, but I think we have enough to beat them.

  19. we’ll sort the 3pm jinx out this week.
