Routledge set for summer QPR transfer.

Permanent move for Routledge.
Wayne Routledge looks set to be a guaranteed departure in the summer as news has emerged that QPR and Newcastle have agree a transfer fee for the right-winger.

In truth, I think most of us had a hunch that the move would likely be made permanent in the summer, but given that QPR manager Neil Warnock has now confirmed this we can turn that hunch into a confirmation – Routledge will be off in the summer.

I questioned the wisdom of sending Routledge out on loan in January, as did many others to be fair. It just didn’t make sense to release him when we didn’t get another, better version to replace him, and let’s be honest Routledge is infinitely better that Ryan Taylor who should never ever ever be allowed anywhere near a black and white shirt again, unless he gets a job as one of them roller-skate waiters at an American theme bar or bowling alley or something.

Anyway, the door was opened for Routledge to leave, and it was promptly shut and bolted behind him as Alan Pardew revealed to the world that Wayne was not good enough to help take Newcastle forward. Going by performances so far this season, I’d probably agree, but I still think it was a little harsh airing the dirty laundry in public so to speak.

I only say that the deal looks likely as it also looks likely that QPR are going to be promoted. They are looking pretty nailed on for promotion at the minute and only a late season collapse looks like it will prevent them from claiming a spot in the Premier League next season. If that happens then the move will go ahead, according to Neil Warnock anyway.

“I think they’ve sorted out a realistic figure. I can’t give exact details, but I think we’ve agreed everything with the club should it go ahead,” Warnock told the Ealing Gazette.

“I don’t think there’s any rush for either of us. We’d like to sign him, whatever happens, but I imagine it depends on where we end up, because I think Wayne would like to play in the Premier League. If things went wrong for us, then he’d probably go back. He’s got to be enjoying it because of the way he’s playing and we’re enjoying having him. We’d love to keep him.”

Warnock added: “I thought he’d do well for us. That’s why I chased him for so long and talked to him so many times. Pestered him, in fact. It can sometimes be difficult coming back to a club, but I told him it was a lot different now and I felt the club was geared up to let him play his best.”

“I thought we were a solid side and I thought you need players like Wayne to win games and I’m delighted to get him.”

Best of luck to Wayne then. He was important for us in our promotion run in, and it looks and sounds like he is being important for QPR in their Championship run in.

Cheers Wayne!
