Maybe the league table does lie?

Look up! I am happy with things at the moment. I’ve been going to a few matches, I am going to go to a few more and I see our beloved club sitting pretty in the Premier League table.

At the start of the season I couldn’t have believed anyone who would have said that we would be tenth with nine games to play. I would have been happy with seventeenth come what may! I look to the right hand side of the table and notice that we are only four points from a possible European adventure once again. ‘Great stuff’ I tell myself. I miss European football, and I didn’t think we would see that for maybe five years.

All is good, so my eyes look down the league table towards the unfortunate clubs caught in a relegation battle. I feel sorry for some of them but laugh at the others, either because I believe they are the sort of club that belong there, unlike us of course, or because I simply don’t like them. Once again my eyes drift to the right……bastard!

The league table which teased me with the chance of watching Newcastle back in Europe deals a crushing blow when I see that we are only five points away from the drop zone. What was I thinking? A newly promoted club that has spent very little on new talent playing in Europe. No chance! We are in a fight for survival, deluded short arse ginger freak.

I try to calm myself down by looking the facts though. There are a lot of teams between us and the drop zone, surely they can’t all better our result over the next nine games? So it’s not all doom and gloom then? Our squad is not too bad, and the number of good games we have had outnumber the bad in my opinion.

I need to be more positive! I really believe that we are good enough to stay up whilst maybe a little short of a European place, but that’s not such a bad thing on our return to the top flight. Ahhh that feels better, it’s typical of Newcastle that they make me unsure which way think, whether to look up or down that two faced league table. The positive thinking is definitely the way to confront these issues. No more negativity from me!

So not getting into Europe but not playing in The Championship next season and I’m going to be well happy about it. Our squad wouldn’t be big enough to cope with Europe anyway…..

Oh ffff….!!!
