Pardew: Writing cheques he can’t cash?

Many different aspects of the club have me sitting on the fence from time to time and I sometimes envy people who see things in black or white and stick to their guns.

Take Mike Ashley for instance, some of the fans would lynch him, others believe he has a plan. I am somewhere in the middle. I want to believe that everything is going to get better but we have been kicked in the knackers so many times I tend to live in the grey area when it comes to which point of view I take. It really depends on the result the week before to be honest.

I feel like this about Pardew as well. One minute I think he knows what he is doing and is making good tactical decisions and the next minute I think he is clueless. Granted, the team picks itself at the minute, but I think some decisions he makes are open to criticism.

I keep hearing fans say that his results are good, we are playing the best football since the entertainers…and then other fans point out that we have had one solitary win in the past 9 games – relegation form.

Pardew loaned out our only natural right winger in the form of Wayne Routledge and has recently suggested to the media that he is willing to sign Ireland before he has even kicked a ball, which are decisions I am really starting to question.

The reason for the article is due to the fact I have no faith in what Pardew says to the press. He comes across as a second hand car salesman. Smiling. Beguiling. He is always harping on about what he has done in the past, how great his record is with this, that and t’other including having nurtured some of the greatest ever strikers (like Carlos Tevez). The fact that he is arrogant doesn’t really concern me as I think you need a bit of that in sales/football managing.

What concerns me is that he is giving fans assurances that he really has no authority to give.

Does he really believe that he is in charge of football transfers at Newcastle United? If so, then he must be deluded as there is only one man who decides to part with the cash to bring in a new face and only one man who decides to get rid of players. If he knows that it’s not his final decision…..then why is he making assurances to fans that he has no control over?

The evidence of what I am saying is plain to see. Pardew spoke to the media practically daily in January reporting that he would be announcing signings in a couple of days, then by the end of the week, then it was definite signings at the end of the window. What happened? We signed an injured central midfielder and bid for N’Zogbia with 15 minutes to go.

Pardew GUARANTEED us that Andy Carroll was going nowhere. He said when he came on board as manager that he took the job on the understanding that no offers would be listened to for Carroll. What a crock of shite that turned out to be. Even if he isn’t to blame and it was beyond his control then please Alan, learn your lesson.

I really hope he has learned his lesson because he is in last chance saloon for me. He has told us five players are coming in and I expect to see that happen or Pardew should hold his hands up and declare himself a massive liar.

Do you think Alan Pardew is writing cheques with his mouth that his arse can’t cash?

  1. Bemoaning the lack of options in midfield. We seem to be forgetting one Haris Vuckic. Surely this lad should be getting a run out now?
