Game on! Stoke v Newcastle.

Do you remember the last time?

After two weeks off it’s back to Premier League action for The Magpies as they take on The Potters of Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon.

A brief 90 minutes of football today will take is into yet another two week break, which is why it’s important to try and get a positive result this afternoon at what is one of the leagues toughest grounds to visit. Both teams could very easily get sucked into the relegation mire, but I would suggest that Stoke have the greater need for a win whereas Newcastle could probably just about settle for a point that will keep us ticking over until the Wolves game at the start of April.

It isn’t looking pretty with regard to injury news either although there was no official confirmation that any one of Joey Barton, Jose Enrique or Jonas Gutierrez have been ruled out in the build up to the match. It’s looks as though at least one, if not all, of them will miss the match as I speculated in my match match preview.

Being a Saturday 3pm game means that the game will not be live on TV, well not in the UK anyway. This will mean that many people are relying on streaming the game if they are to watch it. Reliability of streams has been **** on the whole recently, but if you do manage to find a decent one then please feel free to throw a link to it in the comments section below.

I guess all that is left for me to say is that I hope we all enjoy the game and get the result at the end of it. I’ve pre-written this as I’m at the match myself, so the team news has today been supplied by Moreno.

Howay the lads!

Team news….

Stoke: Begovic; Wilson, Shawcross, Huth, Higginbotham; Pennant, Delap, Whelan, Etherington; Jones, Walters

Subs: Sorensen, Collins, Fuller, Pugh, Diao, Whitehead, Wilkinson.

Newcastle: Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Sol Campbell, Fabricio Coloccini, Jose Enrique. Joey Barton, Cheik Tiote, Kevin Nolan. Shola Ameobi, Peter Lovenkrands.

Subs: Tim Krul, Steven Taylor, Danny Guthrie, Shane Ferguson, Jonas Gutierrez, Shefki Kuqi, Nile Ranger.

Newcastle go to a 3-5-2 formation. Sol Campbell comes in to replace Steven Taylor who drops to the bench. Jose Enrique and Joey Barton pass late fitness tests to give the starting 11 a much needed boost as Leon Best is absent due to an injury he picked up in training on Thursday.

  1. Right Ice, ta, server issues I presume… Anyone got any Vshare links? All streams are ***** today like, only vshare ever seems to be any good for me. I suppose that’s what I get for living on a volcanic rock in the middle of nowhere (Gran Canaria!).

Gutted about Tiote’s card, especially as it sounded a bit daft. Need Nolan to stay away from one now. Wolves is a BIG game.

  5. is Danny Simpson still on the field?
Nothing coming from the wings. People have a pop at Jonas from time to time but we are really missing him today.

  8. Toby @ 99 yeah Sol is a passanger but Pards would have got slaughtered even more if he played Taylor, and Taylor would have got slaughtered if he had of been to blame for the 1st one instead of Sol

  10. Ferguson is looking absolutely class with that skill, shame he didn’t pass it but fair play to him, he made the chance

  11. We all said we would be happy with a draw, most of us thought we wouldn’t get a result….and I really don’t reckon we deserve to be 3-0 down.

  12. Why do we keep playing high balls in their box? They are better than us in the air. We all saw what Ferguson did to them when he kept it on the ground and ran them ragged.

  13. Just watching the last goal from free kick and Nolan turns his back on it if he had of stood tall he would have stopped it so that is 3 goals we helped them with 👿

  14. Just not our day today, lads. F’n Stoke. Eyesore to watch but yet they always seem to get results against us….

    Dave-

Yeah that was a much better choice. I still prefer the AK to all of them though. **** Ruskies knew what they were doin’.

  15. Alan Pardew is now statistically the third worst Newcastle manager of all time (not counting managers who have been in charge for less than 10 games).

Chris Hughton, statistically, is Newcastle’s best ever manager with a 59.38% win ratio.

    Just food for thought.

A stat just announced in in the 15 away games we have scored 12 goals. Surprisingly we have won 5 away games

  17. ferguson the stand out performer. we should play more youngsters instead of players who have an opinion they are better than they really are. could we really have done any worse

      (Quote)

  18. Will Toonsy make a thread about that stat that Moreno just posted?

We certainly don’t look harder to beat today.

  20. to be honest I still maintain faith in Pards. I don’t feel like he’s been our 3rd worst manager at all and the notion that we’re gonna go down is fairly ridiculous, there are definitely three teams worse than us. Worst outcome of the day (apart from the result) is Tiote getting banned for a very, very soft yellow. Hope Ireland’s back for Wolves at home, which has now become and absolute must-win. Ferguson looks class, Ranger as ever looks dangerous and to be fair we lost because of silly mistakes (sol- gone in the summer, and harps- usually reliable) and dodgy decisions (never a free-kick for their third). We will of course be spending in the summer and as long as we maintain a mid table finish, which I suspect we will, we will be absolutely fine. Feeling very positive about the summer and next season, reckon we’ll get about 8 more points before the end. Things could be a lot worse lads…
