A look in for Ferguson?

Shane's World?
Being perfectly honest there were very few bright spots for NUFC fans at Stoke yesterday.

From the moment I stepped off the train and into the 1970’s, to the rather tangy tasting beer, the dodgy bus ride to the ground (the top deck is not as enjoyable as it was when I was a teenager), the result, the performance and even Jay Jay’s third nipple, it all combined to make yesterday a rather forgettable affair.

Still there was at least some comfort for the suffering Toon Army, and that was the emergence of Shane Ferguson who was just about the best player in black and white shirt yesterday after his introduction half way through the first half.

Now this isn’t going to be one of those articles where I’m going to build the young lads up and laud their presence in the first team as a shining beacon of success. Put simply that’s putting unnecessary pressure on the lad and is completely uncalled for at this juncture.

However, what I will say is that Ferguson was a breath of fresh air yesterday. His willingness to run and take on a man was something that was refreshing to see, and he showed us some glimpses of skill when he skinned that Stoke player before nutmegging the next one and dragging the ball past another before seeing his shot saved. That, quite rightly, got an ovation from the travelling Toon Army.

I look at Shane Ferguson and think he is very lightwieght and that he needs to add some muscle on his frame. I’m not saying he should be built like a bodybuilder like myself 😉 but I do think that he needs something. But then I also wonder about the fact that if he does bulk up it will mean that he will more than likely lose a bit of speed, which is one of his assets to be fair.

It seems likely that Ferguson is going to see a bit more action in the first team in these final few games of the season now that Alan Pardew was forced into playing him yesterday. If Jose Enrique has aggravated his hamstring injury then we could easily see Ferguson starting at left-back for a few games for us, and after yesterday I’d have to say that it wouldn’t bother me too much if young Fergie was to get the nod.

So in conclusion, Shane Ferguson was one of the bright spots from the Stoke game and really took the chance that was given to him. If Jose is going to be fit then Jose will obviously play, but I’m less worried about a back up for the Spaniard now as I know that Ferguson can come in and do a job. The fact that he can do a job in a number of positions is an added bonus.

What did you think of Fergie yesterday?

  1. Maybe, doubt Ireland will be able to play a full match though he’s been out since December. Also that is quite an offensive midfield, will be gaps at the back.

  3. If Ireland does play some part vs Wolves then it’s going to be a while til we see him again because he won’t be able to play vs Villa.

  4. Why would he get a new deal though when we have Barton, Nolan, Tiote, Gosling and even Ireland who can play there?

It makes no sense at all when we could just cash in on him and get a mill or so.

  15. Guys I’m getting a little peeved off.

If the donations are a problem, Toonsy has my email and I guarantee everyone will get their money back.

And Toonsy, threatening to go around to someone’s house and ‘sort them out’ is not on. Now I think you all know I’m a peaceful bloke but if you want to come around to mine and have a pop I’d have you nailed to a wall (wouldn’t be the first time, trust me). I’ll email my address right now if you like and we’ll see what’s what. Seriously, I will. Let’s sort it if you want to play hard man. What time shall we meet and on what day? I can do middle of next week most times. Really, if that’s what it takes let’s call it out in public.

I don’t do this sort of talk these days I’m afraid so maybe it’s a measure of how annoyed I am.

Let’s just let it all drop.

    Please.

  16. Hugh….I can’t speak for anyone else but I certainly wouldn’t want you to give me my donation back as I don’t think you should have to pay out of your own pocket for something that wasn’t of your doing and tbh if it had been explained what the money was needed for and spent on I would have been more than happy for it to have been spent that way, It’s just the way it was done that annoyed me. Coupled with the insinuation that Dave was a rascist, which I told Worky at the time was out of order and the sly digs at Toonsy when as you know he more or less kept the blog going on his own at times were well out of order and an apology whether public or in private would have sorted all that out, but pride or arrogance seems to have stopped that little word from being forthcoming.
As for me, I’ve just stopped going on .org which is a shame as I enjoyed it, but that’s the way I feel and that won’t change I’m afraid.I hope all the lads can sort it out but it needs that apology first I would have thought and unfortunately I can’t see that happening.

  18. Toonsy, unless you’ve deleted the comment you know perfectly well what I’m talking about.

Try comment #53 on the ‘Meet Jose Enriques’ thread.

  19. Aye, that heat of the moment comment? Why drag it back up from then Hugh when it’s all been forgotten? I mean is there anything that has been said wrong in this thread?

I just don’t understand why you dragged that back up again?

  20. Toonsy,
.org is dying mate and they are just lashing out trying to shift the blame.

No offence Hugh as I don’t know you but .org has lost some of it’s core bloggers and instead of getting upset, coming on here and threatening to ‘nail people to the wall’ you guys should write more articles to increase traffic and get new people involved.

No one likes to leave a comment and not get a response for 2 hours and that’s down to you guys not putting the effort in. There wasn’t even a match thread for the game so no wonder the blogs dying.
