Does Best and Ireland’s night on the town really matter?

What's the big deal?
I’ve read a few opinions and different articles that have talked about Leon Best and Stephen Ireland and their night on the town.

Even other sites are starting to jump on the bandwagon now and suggest that then emergence of a photo of the pair, plus Caleb Folan, taken at a posh Newcastle nightclub could be causing problems at Newcastle United. This is of course utter bollocks and only someone that is so far removed from what really happens in the UK would suggest such a thing.

Quite honestly, who really cares whether or not two players, who were not in the matchday squad I’ll add, went to a nightclub? I know I don’t and I feel that some are reacting in a bit of an over-the-top fashion. Fair play to the vast majority of people on the blog as they also see that there isn’t really a problem with anything that has gone on, but it won’t stop people creating a headline, or even a story, out of what is essentially nothing.

It’s a situation that is ripe for the drama queen’s and headline writers to have a field day with, but there was actually nothing wrong with them going out for a night out. I mean who is to say that they were even drinking?

‘Two lads have a night out on night off’ should be the headline, although I feel it’s only a matter of time before it changes and no doubt the self righteous among us will preach how these athletes should be looking after their body and have a responsibility etc etc. Really? So they should all act like monks should they?

Storm in a teacup springs to mind!

  3. Aye Ice, but then I suppose it happens. It’s just people need to be aware that eventually I’ll have enough and just stop it from happening full stop. I have enough my plate without having people constantly trying to get a rise out of me 🙂

    Ice…good job I respect my elders 😉

but seriously, they’re athletes and they should be looking after their bodies a little better, afterall they do have a responsibility to set a good role model! 😉

  8. I forgot footballers were not allowed to have a social life…If Best and Ireland went out and were fit for Stoke aye fair enough, but considering they were both injured why are we even talking about this?

Not sure about Folan though, he might have had a game unless if he is injured too.

  15. not really done much wrong IMO, fair enough if he was meant to play and didnt play to have a drink, but he can’t play, im sure he’d want to play

  16. I don’t think lifting his shirt is “being a hoop”. I mean Geordie golden boy Carroll actually used to break the law when he went out yet nee fecker used get uppity about it. In fact a lot of people stuck up for him which was laughable in hindsight.

“whats the problem?? i want him 2 sort himsel out and play mint for newcastle thats the problem”

So we could say the same about Best then as well?

Should all injured players be house bound until they are fit?

  19. Carroll smacked his lass and people still stuck up for him.

”probably deserved it” ” provoked him” etc.

  20. well i think differently 2 you toonsy but when it comes to newcastle players who are a watse of money then it annoys me ! my girlfriends grandad is jackie milburn and do you think he would of went on like that showing off when he went out?? nope

  21. They could have just been out celebrating st paddy’s having a laugh and a drink or two. I think the media are stirring up a bit of a storm in a tea cup here. yes it may have been the night before but to put it into perspective they didn’t travel with the rest of the squad, they are injured presumably and their next game isn’t for 2 weeks. Plus whats the point of Ireland coming here if he doesn’t drive his bling bling pink Range Rover around the quayside a couple of times. 😀

Of course not, but times move on.

End of the day, would Ireland have been fit to play anyway? No, where is the harm? Can people not go out and enjoy their spare time or summit?

  26. @DJG I agree with you as they weren’t even part of the squad and could have been celebrating st paddy’s. It’s just the media trying to create a storm, probably they were allowed out but they will resume training next week for a game that is in two weeks

  28. Army69 why can’t footballers go on a night out and enjoy them selves? Not surprised Bests showing his body off to be honest.

Like toonsy said Carroll broke the law and we used to sing about it, no one really cared. If Ireland is **** we send him back to Villa which is not an issue.
