A new deal for Danny?
It appears that Newcastle are looking to offer Danny Simpson a new deal in the summer as they look to tie down the defender for the long term.
Simpson will have only two years left on his current deal when the summer rolls around and is already attracting interest from Birmingham City if reports are to be believed, so it seems sensible that club would want negotiate a new deal for a player who, for me anyway, has been one of the surprise packages of the season so far.
I know Simpson has his critics, and I'm aware that he also has his faults, but then again so do most of our players it seems, but to be fair the lad has surprised me so far this season. He has not looked out of place in the Premier League in my opinion, and that is despite the fact that I personally had doubts over the ability of the lad at the start of the season.
To me he is improving nicely, and that is what I want to see from our players. Simpson seems to enjoy life on Tyneside and doesn't cause us any isses. We don't hear him grizzling about anything and we don't hear about him partying and the like. He just gets on with it and does his job.
If you were to ask me if there was any better right-backs out there then I'd have to say that there is, but replacing Simpson is not a matter of urgency and can wait quite some time in my opinion. A new deal would keep the 24-year-old tied down for what should be approaching his peak years, and that can only be a good thing. A snip at £500,000 I'm sure you'll agree.
So if there is any truth in this then you won't hear me moaning. It makes sense in my eyes, but Simpson is just one of a number of players that we should be looking to deal in during the summer months. We all know who I'm talking about so I won't go into it again!
On a different note, I'd like to adress a few things that I've noticed going on. There seems to be bad blood going on quite a bit at the moment with regards to certain comments being made. What I'd like us all to do now is drop it and let things calm down.
I'm just as pissed off at some of the things that have been said and the way that I have been portrayed as the rest of those involved are, but at the end of the day we should rise above it, be the better men, and do what we are all here to - make this place THE place to be and help make it the number one place to chat about NUFC and have a general laugh, mainly at each other of course.
Let's just stick to what we do best!
