Barton close to signing new deal?

Barton willing new deal.
Joey Barton is close to agreeing a new deal at Newcastle, if his agent Willie McKay is to be believed.

Barton has established himself as one of the key players this term despite playing in an unfamiliar right wing role. Without checking, he is probably top of our assist charts and makes the team look loads better when he is in it. We haven’t won a game without him this season, so I guess that kind of highlights his contribution this season.

Many Newcastle fans know the importance of keeping hold of Barton, so I won’t go into it again as there is only so much drum beating you can do. What really matters is getting him to sign on the dotted line with us, which is why it’s interesting to note that Barton is not a long way away from doing just that according to his agent, Willie McKay.

“Joey is happy at Newcastle and would be happy to talk. We’re not a million miles apart, it’s about the length of the deal,” said McKay.

“He wants to get back into the England squad and believes he can do that with Newcastle but his form has attracted a lot of interest.”

So it’s not a wage issue then, thankfully, although there is a careful reminder in there from McKay hinting at interest from other clubs.

It’s nice to see that Barton feels that he can achieve his England ambitions here at NUFC. To be fair, he probably could if the England team was picked purely on form and ability. Clearly it isn’t however, because if it was then Barton would have been included well before now.

Instead I fear that Barton will never get the chance to pull on the England shirt again. Apparently his past history is a concern, but then so should the past history of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, John Terry and so on……… Hypocrites!

It’s that kind of bias towards Barton that boils my ****. He’s done the crime, and he’s done his time so he should stop being judged on the past. Everyone is guilty of it to an extent, but what I will say is that I’m glad those same people who are judging and deriding Barton for his previous aren’t the ones who have had to judge me after everything that I have done wrong in the past.

I think I got to about my sixth last chance before the penny finally dropped, and to be fair it was only when I kicked the heavy drinking that I fully managed to turn my life around and make something for myself. I couldn’t have done that with people still judging me as that knobheed alcy who causes trouble all the time. You see, people do change, if you let them.

Sermon over.

Getting back to bias though, I note that the list for PFA Player of the Year has been released today, and rather unsurprisingly it features no names from the North East. This is not a surprise with regard to those down the road as their season heads towards implosion after missing out on that next level 😆

Here is that list in full:

Nemanja Vidic.
Samir Nasri.
Gareth Bale.
Carlos Tevez.
Scott Parker.
Charlie Adam.

Fair enough with a few of them, but if we’re going to have Charlie Adam then surely Kevin Nolan or Joey Barton should be involved?

It does my heed in man!

  1. Barton will become a legend if he stays with us, he already is one for me but he does need to keep playing – one season isn’t enough. Sooner he signs a new deal the better. 🙂

  3. Said it before will say it again Joey Barton is the best English Midfielder at the moment.

  4. Barton will never get picked for England again because of his past. Plus he has the balls to say the truth about other players.

I hope Barton and Nolan never get picked for England – International football is s*ite man! Bunch of pointless friendly games at stupid times, knowing our luck with injuries one of them would get injured if they got picked.

  5. Tap into the 35M and give Joey the third year. Agree with JT- there simply isn’t a better English CM at the moment. Just my opinion from afar, but he has the blood, guts, and desire sorely lacking from the English squad

  6. I’m just glad it isn’t a wage issue and is a length of deal issue. To me that will get sorted.

  7. Sound. Just got the full accounts so I’m going to see if owt is wrong with them. Doubt it, based on the fact that the ****** who said “we’d only been given a brief look at them and only see what the club want us to see” hasn’t piped up again on SSN 🙂

  8. Im happy to seeing they are close, dont mean to be a pessimist like, but what does him signing a contract really mean? That the club can get more for him if/when they sell him, i hope it doesnt happen like

  9. True. Same with any player though really to be fair.

Cheers for pissing on my chips mate 😥

  10. “Joey is happy at Newcastle and would be happy to talk.”……so they’re not talkin now which means it’s no closer than it was when talks stopped the last time, weeks ago ❓

  11. Yeah, but to be fair Richie, they claim all talks are on hold until we are safe.

MM- as we have dicussed on here for awhile, It is hard to name a player that was sold by ashley who didn;t want to go. If Barton wants to go there is nothing you can do.

  12. Why not take the three year contract with an option for a fourth if all are happy or something?

    Everyone wins that way.

  13. Geremie 😉 😀

MDS…..thats what I mean, no further forward but like Toonsy said, glad it doesn’t appear to be over wages 😀

  14. I commend the club for offering shorter deals to players approaching 30. Needless to say they’ve made mistakes in this regard before (See Smith, Alan). But an exception needs to be made for JB- he is clearly playing the best football of his life and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

  15. Whatever the lengths are, offer the Newcastle preferred contract and have an option to extend to the Barton preferred contract if all parties agree.

Seems the obvious thing to do.

  16. FJ….imo they just just give him what he wants it’s not outrageous what he’s asking for and if it’s true he’s taking a paycut then the extra year should be his reward for that.

  17. Hands up all those who did’nt want Joey at our club?
If we keep Joey and other core players together with untried players like Gosling Ireland and Ben Arfa.Add to these our great summer signings I feel I could be getting quite excited around July 😆

  18. He is the best English right midfielder at this point. You seen when AC was hear the quality of the balls he delivered, plus his grit and determination rubs off on other players to dig deep, you seen this against arsenal!!!

True to the fact that he wont be picked for England because, if it was measured on talented and determination he would be the first name on the England sheet.
