Game on! Aston Villa v Newcastle

Game on at Villa Park!
Welcome one and all to another article specifically penned for the big game this afternoon.

Villa Park is the destination this afternoon for the 4pm kick-off, which will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Payback is a *****, and we owe Villa some more after we wimpered out of the Premier League 23 months ago. Yes it was our players over 38 games that got us relegated, but quite what was going through the minds of the Villa fans, who we have no history with I might add add, who mocked us and brought out their pretty little decorations to poke fun at us is beyond me.

Class was in short supply from them lot that day. I hear people saying how we would do the same if such events transpired to create a situation whereby we could relegate someone at St James’ Park on the final day of the season. I agree, if it was someone like Liverpool, Manchester United or Sunderland, but for the rest I highly doubt that we’d make much of an effort. A few songs maybe, but certainly not the poster campaign that the Vile displayed that day.

Indeed a case in point happened just last season when our 2-0 win at Plymouth relegated the Green Army. There was no poking of fun from our lot though and we just concentrated on celebrating our promotion. That is the point though – concentrating our ourselves. Villa didn’t.

Still, it’s been and gone now and perhaps I feel more annoyed by it because I live in an area that has a high proportion of Villa fans in it. Nothing can be changed from two years ago, but a win for us would leave Villa deep in the mire. To me that would be priceless.

As mentioned earlier, the game in on Sky here in the UK, but if you can’t watch that then I’m fairly certain that there will be a few internet streams knocking about. If you stumble across one then throw a link to it in the comments section and share it with your fellow Newcastle fans.

If you haven’t read my match preview you can do so by clicking here. It features team news, likely line-ups, facts and stats regarding both sides and of previous encounters between the two sides.

That’s just about it for this. Hopefully the lads can get another positive result this afternoon, although I have to admit that I’m not feeling too confident about that. Villa have a lot of good players and it’s only a matter of time before they click and get the results that will drag them clear of the relegation scrap. Hopefully that can wait until next week though…..

Howay the lads!

  1. Couple of soundbites from my old man:

    1) Whose that commentator? I’m gonna ring up and complain.

    2) Ranger should learn to run with his **** cheeks as he spends most of his time on it 😆

  2. I excpect the team to come out fighting, can see Barton giving a right bolloxing in the dressing room, so to Nolan.

  3. Jose looked below par today.
    Taylor shoite as per.
Colo out of our defence worries me.
    Barton below par.

Ashley Young is a diving litttle bast*rd and i hope he seriously injures himself sometime soon.

  4. Who does my mum think she is starting my tea so it will be ready half way though the second half!

  5. I think Niles done alright, could have done better with his chance but apart from that his hold up plays been good.

  6. Observations:

    1. Barton can’t be captain. Too much pressure on top of him and he’s showing the strain with the yelling at the ref.

    2. The ref’s a turd: Three handballs for them, uncalled.

    3. Ranger’s been selfish twice. Should have set up Loverman for at least one of those.

    4. Enrique’s a little off.

    5. Their goal was not a foul.

    6. I think Bent’s foot was JUST offside. But we were lucky to get that.

    7. I have made too many observations.

  7. we have to take a little gamble after the hour mark and push on for the equaliser. their keeper is not being tested

  9. Lovenkrands first touch is his knee and his second a tackle.
    Roll on the summer

  10. I know he’s only 19 but for me ranger after a promising start is just not impressing me at all at the minute anyone else?

  11. Taylor doesn’t impress me at all. Never has done, being a geordie means nothing at all, should never have been given a new deal.

  12. Pearcreet
What has he had to work with hopeful balls down the channels with no support. Give him time please

  13. Good move I rekon, gives us a better balence. Colo goes centre back, Joey back in the middle.

  14. yeh but he’s also getting beaten to the ball by collins and dunne over 15 yards and keeps losing the ball and also his finishing has been poor and his decisions poor as well

    Raylor on toonsy 😀 😀 😀

  15. Guthrie’s lack of pace makes him face the wrong way. scared to lose it and leave us wide open.
Come on attack I would rather lose two or three as just let this fade away

  16. Midfield has been awful. Guthrie isnt good enough, Bartons had a shocker, Jonas is just doing what he always does gets in the good positions and never has a end product.

      (Quote)

  17. Aye Collo’s not a midfielder, made sense to try him and he hasn’t been terrible, but i’d much rather him at the back even with future suspensions or injuries in mind.

  18. We are so negative. sideways and backwards passing all second half.
    attack attack

  19. Dissapointed that we don’t seem to be at least putting them under pressure. They will be getting nervous now.

  20. Shola is the only striker that should be guaranteed a start when fit, hope he’s back for next week cause I have no faith in lovenkrands or ranger really. We can fire all the crosses in we want but with those two nothing will go in.

  21. Sorry but Enrique is starting to **** me off. He’s been poor for a while now. Looks like someone with things on his mind.

      (Quote)

  22. Why the f*ck does guthrie always go and stand next to our centre halves. Does he think they are not capable of making a pass. Push on you ****

      (Quote)

  23. All I remember from Ranger today is a shot when he should have passed for loven 1 on 1…May as well bloody start cookie from now on and bring on ranger as the, ahem, “super sub”
