Pardew: “We’re safe now.”

Time for Pardew to put his words into action?
Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew believes that the point at Bloomfield Road combined with other results means that NUFC are safe from relegation for this season.

The Toon currently sit seven points clear of the bottom three clubs with only four games remaining. The vastly superior goal difference effectively makes that an eight point gap which means that, barring a major catastrophe and a swing in results that has never been seen before, we are all but mathematically safe.

“We’re safe now. It’s done now when you look at the other results,” Pardew told the Sunday Sun. “For us our motivation must be a top-10 finish.”

“We’ve got four contrasting games now – two tough away and two at home where you’d like to think we’ve got a chance.”

“For us now the pleasing thing is we go to Liverpool with the same energy. We’ve no midweek game so it should be a good one – I’m looking forward to that one.”

To be honest I thought we were safe before we even kicked a ball yesterday. Granted the result and the performance wasn’t as good as I would have liked, but a point is a point and all that matters is picking up those points. The fact that none of the bottom clubs really gained any ground was a bonus.

So top-10 is now the aim? Seems reasonable to me. Two wins from our two home games would give us 47 points, which would be a very reasonable points tally for our first season back in the Premier League and should be just about enough to ensure that we finish in the top half of the table.

With safety seemingly assured and the next target already set out, the attention will inevitably turn to contracts and player recruitment. Remember, all contract talks were off until we were safe, so if we are safe now then I suppose the club had better get cracking with deals for Joey Barton, Jose Enrique and any other players that the club wish to negotiate with.

We’re getting towards the point where the club need to match up to the claims that they have been making for weeks now. We’ve heard Pardew going on about contract talks and player signings for quite some time, but we are nearly at the point where the actions need to speak louder than words.

That is what people really want to see!

  1. I’m not convinced theyll agree contracts until we’re mathematically safe so might be a few weeks before we hear anything in that regard…

  2. Probably should have added…but there’s no harm having a contract agreed in principal & is ready to be signed come mathematical safety

  3. witters… true, get it all agreed and in place, think JB will be signed up first though. I don’t think Jose’s mind is elsewhere(yet), I just think he’s undecided as yet.

  12. Crossed my mind this morning that we play well against the top teams but awful against the lower teams.

But when we get muxed ip and play well against the “lesser” sides we get results like 6-0, 5-0, 5-1 etc. I hope we get one more of those days before the end of the season.

And in my latest favourite past time, PL Prediction, Newcastle can get 6th and Sunderland can still go down – with Villa, even. 😀

Aye your probably right, Kenny according to stuart pearces book was like a fecking red coat running a holiday kids club loads of 5 a sides and **** all prep, When Tommy burns/Carver used to put on training sessions, kenny and terry mac used to ignore them and play fight with Shearer and batty 😆

look at the side that started for them yesterday, I reminds me of Roeder when we nicked intertoto spot, Players like Carr, Bramble, Moore, Faye, Shola, Chopra, Babayaro, Ramage al started playing well above themsels and we obviously came back to earth the season after when the majority of the squad found their level as lower midtable *****.

I dont buy the whole kenny thing, Remember his first 6 months here when we finished 2nd before he started to put his stamp on things… 🙄
