Pardew “pleased” with transfer budget.

Pardew plans for summer!
Alan Pardew has already held discussions with the NUFC over transfer funds for the summer, and he claims that he is pleased with the outcome of the meetings.

It will be a few months yet before we know what exactly Pardew is pleased with, but for all of our sakes I hope that he is getting enough backing from the board when it comes to transfers.

Indeed there is no excuse for not investing in the summer. The squad clearly needs it, and with the money from the sale of Andy Carroll underpinned by a strong suspicion that the club is already breaking even you can see why fans are looking to see some sign of improvement over the summer.

Plans had been on hold until our Premier League safety is assured, but initial discussions have apparently already taken place over the signatures of Cheikh M’Bengue and Kevin Gameiro according to the Northern Echo so hopefully not everything has been ground to a halt whilst our survival hung in the balance.

The fact the we are seven points clear of the bottom three with only four games remaining has led to Pardew calling us safe, although some fans are keen to point out that until we are mathematically safe there is still cause to be concerned. Rightly or wrongly, I agree with Pardew and think we are safe now. Even with United’s tendency to balls things up I think we’ll be fine and we can all start to look, tentatively, towards a summer of squad rebuilding.

“I think that’s us past the post now, and that obviously makes it a little bit easier in terms of looking towards the future and hardening up some of the plans,” Pardew the Nothern Echo. “To be fair though, that process has been ongoing for a little while now anyway.”

“We’ve already covered a lot of the bases, but now we can step things up in certain areas. We’ve already started work on the training ground, and we have some undersoil heating going in that will make a huge difference to us. We might actually be able to train in December and January which will be useful.”

“We’re also actively pursuing players already because we don’t want to be left behind in the summer. I’ve had a meeting about budgets and I think we all know where we stand. I’m obviously going to keep the details of those discussions private, but I’m pleased with the talks that have taken place.”

This summer will be the big test for the board and the manager. The majority of fans aren’t stupid and know that there is money there to invest, even without Mike Ashley dipping into his £1 billion personal fortune. There is no relegation to contend with, no management upheaval and as yet no statement saying “no new plans for capital outlay” to **** on our chips.

We ran a poll here on NUFC Blog at the start of March where we asked how much you thought we would spend in the summer, with most people believing that around £15-£25 million will be spent in the summer. If you haven’t already voted you can do so now, or you can just see the current results by clicking on ‘view results’;

I don’t think we’ll spend the £35 million. In fact we’ve pretty much been told that we won’t as part of that cash will be used for wages. I’m not really bothered either if I’m being honest, and I certianly won’t be counting the pennies in or pennies out like some fans will be over the summer.

All that matters to me is that the squad is stronger than it is now. If the club, who to be honest haven’t done too bad when picking up the odd bargain, can make the squad stronger by spending only 50p then I couldn’t care less. Obviously that was an extreme example, but sometimes you have to get back to basics to get the point across 😉

If the club are getting their backsides into gear early then fair enough. They know what needs doing, and they’ve talked about it often enough now, so all they need to do is put those words into action and come up with the goods. We’ve been let down in that department before of course, but this time around, for some unknown reason, I’m cautiously optimistic about the summer.

Weird I know….

  1. We obviously need two strikers, at least one winger, and a left back next year. I would be fine with keeping Simpson as our 1st-choice right back

  2. I like simo, but would rather Raylor Rb but we cant all have it our way… I ide like PVA Lb but dont no if we could pull him away… maybe Wayne Bridge?

      (Quote)

  3. be rough on best not to give him a chance next season, he looks ok and is a decent backup to a main striker

  4. Wayne Bridge? 😯

    Not a chance!

    1) He’s shyte.

    2) He’s too old.

    3) He’d want hoooooge wages.

  5. I rate him, didnt realise he was old, and I did think about wages but wanted to suggest him anyway 😆

  6. Left back just really has me worried. I’d obviously prefer if Jose stayed, but I’m emotionally prepared for him leaving. Who can we really get that would be able to do a job with 2/3 of his ability?

  7. Not a chance on bridge like, may as well play with 10men and save yourself 100k a week 😛

Maybe if Ferguson can pick up some strength by the start of next season he could be in with a shot? Out of interest has Kadar ever played LB for us? I don’t think its a huge problem-any left back doesn’t have to be as good as Enrique, so long as we have Jonas tracking back to help out then he should be able to provide enough support for even a mediocre left back.

  8. That M’Bengue seems to be highly rated 😉

Sorry about bursting the Bridge bubble, but he is from darn sarrff so will want to be paid a premium for moving North of Watford Gap to come and live in one of the best cities in one of the best areas in the country 👿

  9. I mean, there are strikers all over the place to choose from, but LB is one of those spots that is really hard to find quality in, it seems.

I really think we need one or two actual wingers, just to fight the injury crisis that we’re sure to have again.

We also need to loan out Ranger, Kadar, Ferguson, and Airey so that they can come in the following season and take over for Shola’s deputy responsibilities that I hope he will have. It pains me that Shola is our best striker right now

  10. Bridge is ****. i’d hate see him sign for Newcastle and care more about his pay packet than his performances. shizer

  11. I’ve heard talk of M’Bengue, but I don’t personally know anything about it, other than he’s apparently a hard-tackling defender

  12. Newkie – DJG will tell you that Kadar is a left-back. I say he is a centre-back with a left foot. Up to you who you wish to believe 😉

Say DJG and I’ll ban your sorry **** 😆

    Just kidding 😉

He has played there before. I remember Hughton whipping him off in a home game because he got diddled in the Championship by someone.

  13. well sorry Jobey, I wont suggest any more players in the future…. well sheff u are going down, Stephan Quinn could be a good call 😆

      (Quote)

  14. I’d say that Kadar is left-footed center-back as well. At least from what I saw of him in the Championship last year. He can do a job at fullback, but he’d probably pull a Saylor and suck into the middle too much

      (Quote)

  15. I remember one game last season (Plymouth I think?) where he ran the ball out of central defence, into their half and launched a shot at goal from 40 yards. It was on target aswell 😆

      (Quote)

  16. Yep, that’s exactly what i remember about him. Solid kid defensively too! I don’t see why he couldn’t be our 4th choice CB next year. Him or Tavernier, depending on who Pardew prefers obviously

      (Quote)

  17. aye, a few teams can be relegated and promoted today, its quite exciting imo, to top it of, a chinese for tea 😛

      (Quote)

  18. DJG what does he know?
Kadar could be the real deal. All potential. Could be Colo’s replacement at the end of next season.

  19. i’m loving that I’m actually able to part of the banter for once. it’s probably been about a year when i’ve been able to go back and forth with some other fans on a blog

      (Quote)

  20. Gary Cahill? 😕

Roger Johnson is having contract trouble at Birmingham apparently. He’s waiting to see if Scott Dann signs a new deal as Dann is being eyed up by Liverpool. Bit of inside info for you all there 😉

      (Quote)

  21. AndrewT – Because his contract is up at the end of next season I think?

And as for banter, join in at any time. People will always chat footy on here 🙂

      (Quote)

  22. doubt it spence. Roger Johnson would be the most likely. but i actually don’t know if he’d do much more than Williamson. they just do the same thing, win the ball in the air.

And the last time i saw Johnson we were playing them at their ground and he got destroyed in the air by Best, he won fock all.

Don’t think he’d be worth what we’d have to pay for him improving the team-wise

      (Quote)

  23. Toonsy, i guess that’s a point about the contract. But same could be said about Jonas, right?

There’s no reason why those two wouldn’t renew their contracts with us next season.

  24. It will be very interesting to see what clubs get relegated this season, and who is worth picking up from them though

      (Quote)

  25. I’d prefer to resign Kluivert than sign Wayne Bridge (bit late on that conversation…)

He is terrible. When you add up his total transfer fees and wages as well…..holy moly

      (Quote)

  26. What about Arsenal
Anybody think they will be having a clear out.
    Anybody worth enquiring about?

      (Quote)

  27. I think there will be a lot of movement this summer. Clubs will be looking to trim squads with an eye on the new rules. I know Villa are having a clear out. Man City probably will. Arsenal, the relegated teams…….. even Bolton as they are technically insolvent and only survive by the fortune of one man.

New thread up anyway. One for deep thought 😉

  28. Andrew

I don’t think Colo will be here forever. The nature of the beast (football) is that either he will want a big transfer and manoeuvure a move away or we will sell him for serious cash

  29. Army69 – If you’re still about, you’re post with the Tribal Football link got binned because Tribal is deemed as Spam by the site 😆

I’ve fished it out now though 🙂

  30. Toonsy lad you’re talking sh1te, DJG is a wealth of wisdom and knowledge! 😀 In all seriousness I do agree with a fair amount he says-I know next to nothing about the Kadar situation though, missed out on any of his appearances last year I think.

I’ve banged on about him a couple of times, would like to see sylvain marveaux from rennes picked up-there was loads of stuff linking him with liverpool last summer I think, he can play as leftback/left wing/attacking mid and whilst he might be a bit lightweight I think he could make the cut, and could give us other options on the left as well. Its just that if the Jose deal is for real then why liverpool will be needing a left back/mid is beyond me…

      (Quote)

  31. **** me thought it said one for deep throat then sy haha 😆

And if I was manager I would just do the backline, thats all I work on, on footy manager, then make like one attacking signing every window 😆

  32. My team for next season wud be ……..

    Starting 11:
    gk . Krul

    center half . Williamson
    right back . ????
    defence mf . Tiote
    right wing . Barton
    left wing. Ben Arfa
