Deal struck for Barton?

Alan Pardew.

Alan Pardew.
Barton shakes hands on new deal?
The whole Joey Barton contract saga has gone on for long enough now, although hopefully there is an end in sight to the whole on-off affair.

I really want Joey Barton to stay at NUFC. He has been fantastic for the majority of this season, but it’s more than just his performances on the pitch that I feel we’d miss if he ever left St James’ Park as Barton has become a sort of status symbol for the new Newcastle United. Having said that, I was starting to get frustrated with the delay in new contract negotiations and just wanted it sorted either way.

Well according to rumours and word on the street it has been sorted. Yesterday in fact. I’ve heard two versions, but both versions involve Joey Barton signing a new contract with Newcastle. Now nothing is official so don’t get carried away, but I may as well share what I’ve heard.

Apparently, Barton has signed a four-year deal with Newcastle although I’ve also asked about and it seems that other people have heard that it is a three-year deal with the option of a fourth year.

Make of it what you will, but I’d be delighted if it was true. Hopefully it and we can chalk Joey off as one of the players that we need to stay being sorted. I’ll wait until it’s all official before I pop the party poppers though.

Jose next please 😉

  1. Yup Barton deal looks like a done deal. Three year deal I think. But can’t tie down Enrique though!

  6. You not think all this ‘Liverpool watching contract talks’ is coming out at quite a convenient time. 🙄

  7. Hope it’s true about Barton, if it is do we really need to look at Ireland anymore as pardew has mentioned the need for speedy wingers. And with Gosling and Ben Arfa coming back so our midfield as it stands Jonas, Tiote, Nolan, Gosling, Barton, Guthrie, Ben Arfa, ferguson (fringes i know but deserves a mention). I’m not saying not to buy CM but someone with a better fitness record than been out injured for the best part of 18 month.

Yes I’ve heard the plan for Benny to play behind a main striker but that still remains to be seen.

  8. morning lads!! i was just reading yesterday 4 main players from the championship we are looking at then i read again last nyt we are after snodgrass , dont get me wrong they have prooven 2 b excellent players in the championship but do yous not see it as a gamble trying 2 bring in someone from th championship that has never played in the prem?? you never know they could turn out world class and shine in the prem but i think we should be going 4 players in the summer that has experience in the top leagues and is going 2 be a definite hit on tyneside!! i think that tarrabt is a brilliant player but could he do that in the prem?? the likes of gervinho has had a great season at the top level and we should be aiming for players like him!! i hope if we do go for snodgrass , tarrabt etc they proove me wrong and do well!!

  10. another question for yous?? do yous really think seb larrson if we go 4 him is better than the midfield we have got when all fit?? tiote defo not , barton defo not , ben arfa defo not , gutierez hmmm probs on parr , nolan defo not , would he fit in??

  11. Moreno…there’s always a bit of skullduggery going on when it comes to contract talks, mind the Liverpool talk has been there since early feb at least 👿

  13. hes an ok player but theres loads better!! our midfield now is the strongest we have had in a long tym , wheres larrson play? right wing? thats where barton plays and he certainly aint better than him!! if we could get larrson on a free tho then i wud defo c it as a gud signing!!

      (Quote)

  14. Why do we need Larsson? He’s very similar to Raylor, not quick and apparently a set piece specialist……. The only midfielder we need is a pacy winger or two, that is assuming we get Ireland again.

  15. i cudnt get over ireland getn injured again like , hope hes not gna b mr sick note ameobi cough cough

  16. I’d much rather Kranjar than Larrson, don’t even rate larrson that much, would have taken him in january for the bodies but he’s not special, certainly wouldn’t be in our first 11

  17. Thank **** for that i was expecting Barton and Nolan in claret and blue next season… 🙄

From what ive heard from Liverpool fans (the bloke who delivers me chinese) Kenneth is also watching Baines and Warnock, He wants to buy them both, Baines lives and works in liverpool and is a fan and Everton have to sell one of their better players to sort their money probs and Warnock is also a liverpool fan whose dropped to the stiffs after falling out with Houlier at Villa, He can then punt Insua/Konchesky/Aurelio and move Johnson back to the right to compete with the young lads that have come through this season.

Doesnt stop Jose leaving like but hopefully if the club can act early and we keep hearing about these club delegations abroad, free agents were talking to and new contracts being signed, Maybe Jose will see some future at the club…I hope 😉

  18. Surely we can skirt from Larsson talk on here, theres a full blog devoted to the guy! 🙄

I would much rather get Ireland in for £5 million than Larsson in for free. He offers a lot more in terms of class and quality and Larsson is no quicker or deadlier than Raylor or Barton, so lets get a decent proven player and some orthadox wingers in

      (Quote)

  19. Baines works in Liverpool? I know he plays for Everton, but does he have like a part time job at a pizza place? for when he’s short on cash? 😉

      (Quote)

  20. CC – that sounds like sense to me, but if I were to be totally honest, I wasnt all that adverse to Jose going to Bin Dippers and us going for Baines. He is 3rd in the list of assists in europe this season, and for a LB thats amazing.

  21. All those dissing Seb Larrson don’t let Ed ‘ Im sercetly in love with Seb Larrson ‘ Harrison hear you bad mouth him 😆

      (Quote)

  22. I think us going after Larsson is dead in the water; Pardew said in Jan that he was looking for someone with a decent cross on them to stick it on Carroll’s head, pace not being a problem. He then missed out on Bentley and Larsson. Very much doubt we’ll go back after him, be reet pissed off if we do. According to the Mail (kunts but strangely accurate transfer news…sometimes) we’ve had an £8mil bid for Gameiro rebuffed. That to me is very good news; it means £8mil is our initial offer. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing us part with £12mil for the guy, he is pure class. Also, regarding Ireland, if we can’t get another loan deal for him next season, I’d be willing to take a punt on him for £4 mil. Gotta be worth it? What with Villa desperate to get him off the books an all…

  23. Rich @ 16

Aye mate, it would be incredibly naive to think that there wasn’t political tactics and back handers done when it comes to discussing a contract worth millions of pounds. These agents aren’t daft like, they divvn’t get paid so well for nowt 🙄

      (Quote)

  24. The additional benefits to getting in someone from asia who is playing for the national team are so great too. The additional marketing chances are fantastic, and would really expand the clubs profile worldwide

      (Quote)

  25. Phew, I am glad Barton is going to sign… After Bobbys’ conversation with him last time they caught up, I really thought he was a goner 😉 …

Slate MA & DL all you like but you have to hand it to them as far as contracts go, they seem to be getting the majority of them over the line… I realise that they aren’t worth the paper they’re scribbled on (Carrol) but at least it is money in the bank as far as the club is concerned. If we can get Nolan and Jose tied up, I really can’t think of too many other loose ends..

      (Quote)

  26. Raffo – true, it would bring in extra cash, but he has to be good enough to do a job for us. The bar should be raised a little bit in terms ambition and we should be going for the players accordingly. That Korean couldn’t do much at reading so I’m sceptical of it tbh

  27. @ posts 36 & 37 – totally agree, the asian market is something we have never expored as a team and subsiquently expoited in regards to merchandise sales…

    @toonsy:

Do you not think the bar is being raised with the american tour and looking at far eastern players, Its very manure brainwashingesque plus it will rake in millions, If we can improve the standard of the strikers and add a bit more strength in depth in some positions for next season the club is improving on and off the pitch IMHO…

  30. The last South Korean to play in the North East was Dong Gook Lee and he was a complete disaster!

If he’s good enough, great, but only if he’s good enough now. We cannot afford to be buying potential at this stage in our development.

Villa and Westbrom play each other so both can’t overtake us and Birmingham would have to make up 17 goals to go ahead.

So worst case scenario we will be 13th by the time we play.

  40. I’ve seen Ji Dong-won on telly a couple of times, although I can’t remember him. I don’t think he is a regular player in the national team.

Usually the Koreans aren’t much good in the striker department, but they are all hard working players and not without technical ability. They make good midfield players. The Korean club sides tend to like foreigners as strikers, and lately have been recruiting Aussies as defenders.

I’ve heard that that they do not travel well, that they suffer from culture shock – naturally everybody is different but it is said to be a national trait, though JS Park does ok at ManU. Same with Japanese, apparently.

Reported in the Daily Mail so it’s probably bullsh!t anyway.
