Williamson unfazed by Anfield whilst Colo dreams of clean sheets.
First-choice central defensive pairing Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson have both been speaking to the local press ahead of Sunday's trip to Anfield.
Mike Williamson claims he is not bothered by going to Anfield or potentially having to face Andy Carroll in the Liverpool attack whilst Fabricio Coloccini has targeted a sound defensive display as a springboard to picking up at least a point on Sunday.
Starting with Mike Williamson, who has performed well so far this season after signing from Portsmouth last season. He claims that he is relishing the chance of going to Anfield and testing himself against Carroll at one of the most famous football grounds in the UK. He told The Shields Gazette:
“I came here for big days like this to test myself and prove myself. You want to play at the best stadiums in the world every weekend."
“I’m looking forward to playing against Andy. It’ll be a good test to play against him if he’s fit. Going to Anfield is a great occasion. I’m looking forward to it because I haven’t played there before.”
Meanwhile his defensive partner has urged the team to be solid defensively. Put basically, if you don't concede then you won't lose the game. It's that kind of mentality that Colo is looking for as we enter the final few games of the season.
“We are proud when we keep a clean sheet," Colo told The Chronicle. “It is not just the defenders because we all defend as a team. Every player works hard to get a clean sheet."
"That is what we must do again at Liverpool and Chelsea. If we can, then we have a chance of a great result.”
Focus, focus, focus. That is what the lads have to do at Anfield on Sunday. As much as I despise the rotters I have to commend their recent form, even though it annoys me. With that in mind I think a point would be a good result. Obviously I'd like us to win, but I just can't see where the goals are going to come from.
So if we aren't going to score then we need to make sure that we don't concede, which is why it's nice to hear what is likely to be our central defensive pairing are both fired up for their own respective reasons.
Do us proud lads!
