Game on! Newcastle v Birmingham.

St James' Park.

St James' Park.
Newcastle host Birmingham City.
It’s game on against Birmingham City as the Magpies welcome the Blues to St James’ Park for what is the final Saturday 3pm kick-off of the campaign.

Hopefully our lads can put a bit more effort into this game after the Anfield debacle last weekend. Now don’t get me wrong, I never expected to win that game, but I did expect our team to put up a bit more fight rather than looking they were on their summer jollies already. A win today will go some way to erasing that performance from my mind!

That’s the selfish view though. The more important thing that can be achieved today is Premier League safety. What would need to happen is for us to beat Birmingham and for Wigan to fail to beat Aston Villa at Villa Park. Alternatively a draw would do us if Wigan lose. I’ve personally thought that we’ve been safe for the last few weeks, but for those who are still concerned about it that is what needs to happen.

The match, much like any Saturday 3pm kick-off, is not scheduled for live TV coverage here in the UK, but it is bring broadcast in quite a few places overseas. With that in mind I would hope that there are a couple of decent streams available so once again, if you stumble across one then please feel free to share it with the rest of us.

I really can’t see this game being a goal fest as neither team seem to be able to score at the moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 0-0 in all honesty.

Team news is as follows…

Newcastle: Tim Krul, Danny Simspon, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan, Cheik Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez, Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi.

Subs: Steve Harper, James Tavernier, Shane Ferguson, Ryan Taylor, Ryan Donaldson, Nile Ranger, Shefki Kuqi.

Birmingham: Ben Foster, Stephen Carr, Roger Johnson, Martin Jiranek, Liam Ridgewell, Sebastian Larsson, Lee Bowyer, Barry Ferguson, Jean Beausejour, Keith Fahey, Cameron Jerome.

Subs: Colin Doyle, Stuart Parnaby, Curtis Davies, David Bentley, Alexander Hleb, Matt Derbyshire, Kevin Phillips.

  1. Krul on loan to Celtic next season so he gets the same chances as Forster and let Fraser play the role that Krul has had this season as back up to Harper.

That way Forster and Krul can’t complain about chances as they both get the same back up roles and even same loan deals.

  2. why does simpson always keep a distance??? its like; “you go ahead and pass now, I’ll be right here”

  3. Reet, nipping out after the match briefly so match report will have to wait an our or so 🙂

  4. Someone needs to do something with Tiote, he can’t keep getting a yellow card every match. It’s ridiculous. Pardew shouldn’t play him for the rest of the season or he will start next season with a 3 match ban.

    It’s a joke.

  5. Tiote’s yellow was harsh, but it stopped a break. we’re deffo safe now (thats for you spencer) so he doesn’t need to play 😉

  9. Gotta play guthrie in place of tiote if he’s fit, otherwise, what, Vuckic? We can’t start next season without Tiote its ridiculous. He needs to stop stamping on feet as well, no effort to take the ball and its getting tiresome now

  10. Guthrie is out for the season, he can’t replace. We will probably rush Alan Smith back.

It SHOULD be Nolan and Barton in the middle, Jonas on the right and Ferguson on the left.

    That’s too sensible though.

  11. Thats Tiotes season over then. 1 more yellow card in the last 2 games he’ll get a 3 match ban at the start of next season. We are deffo safe now so even though it means we could get a right hiding at Chelsea it’s not worth the risk.

On a side note would like to see youngr Airey a few minutes to see what he’s got after a good season in the reserves

  12. Much better performance today. Even S.Taylor was good at the expense of Collo’s usual MOTM performance. 2nd double of the season and well deserved. When the whole team played so well it masked the fact that we are so weak upfront. Another season of premier league football. Hopefully this time with some more bite in attack.

  13. Aye, Staylor was pretty solid, just Krul and Colo looking a bit dodgy, whether thats curtesy of him or not I’m not quite sure but we were alright. Forgot vuckic was out…in which case FunkyJesus you have the right shout, may as well see what fergie can do

  14. Lets be honest, tiote is going to play the next game. Rightly so in my humble as we are looking for a top half finsh before heading into a summer where we should be looking at getting players in who can cover tiote anyway 🙂

  15. If Larssen is one for us then I’ll show certain body parts in Fenwicks window… 🙄 ….I mean he muffed a great chance when Krul dropped the ball too… 😯

  16. Just got back in, very pleased with that. Foster had a class game for them, would have been 3 or 4 if it wasn’t for him.

Nothing new upfront though, Shola had a decent game with a very good pen, Lovenkrands did bigger all which was expected 🙂

Barton was class, some of his passing was quality.

  17. Thought Jonas was his usual self, made some very good runs but had no final product. Nice to see Taylor score but for there goal I dont have a clue what Krul, Colo and Taylor were playing at.

  20. Shola will have to improve 100% to become useless!!
Lovenkrands is so far over the hill he can’t be seen with a telescope!!

  21. He’s more versatile than I thought then Jobey!

He’s playing left back for Spurs right now…& so is Ferguson but people don’t mind seeing him play at left back…

  22. ahh i see.
