Will Kaz get an opportunity next year?

Keegan gave Kaz a chance. Will Pardew?
Recently I have seen many people calling for Joey Barton to be moved back into the centre of midfield with us signing a top quality winger to improve our team.

There isn’t many top class wingers around nowadays in my opinion. Usually they end up either a good crosser with no pace a la Bentley or full of pace and no crossing a la Routledge. As it happens we may already have a decent right winger in our ranks.

I’m not saying that we should put Kazenga LuaLua straight into the first team, but he has to be considered next season as an option and hopefully given a few sub appearances for the first team. One of the main things in a young players development is first team appearances, which is why I think we should give the Carling Cup a real go next season and try and get as far as possible mixing the better youth with our current first team.

Lua Lua had a relatively successful loan spell at the start of this season with League 1 champions Brighton scoring 4 goals in 11 appearances before suffering a broken leg against Hartlepool. Gus Poyet stated that LuaLua had played a key part in Brighton’s promotion to the Championship. LuaLua celebrates in the same manner as his older brother Lomana LuaLua with his trademark somersault celebration; with a bit of luck we may see that great celebration for the first-team next season.

LuaLua is another winner of the ‘Wor Jackie’ Award, which he won in 2008. Since then he has made a handful of appearances for the first team – mainly from the subs bench. While at Brighton he was renowned for special goals scoring a couple of crackers playing for the League 1 Champions. He also seemed very tricky and chipped in with a couple of assists. Some Brighton fans claim he set the ball rolling in their season.

With a distinct lack of pace in our current team I feel that LuaLua would be a good addition to the squad next season when he returns from injury. Even if he is just making sub appearances he may be able to exploit the gaps in tiring defences, which is something we struggle to do. Hopefully with him and Ben Arfa in the team we will be more of a potent force on the counter-attack.

Pardew has also mentioned LuaLua in an interview, but this was way back in December when he’d just been appointed our manager. I assume he didn’t expect him to be out this long but hopefully with the right rehabilitation he will be fit and raring to go next season.

Pardew told The Chronicle: “Kazenga had a terrific game that day when I was manager for Southampton and he was at Brighton on loan.”

I know he’s been playing at a lower level with Brighton, but it will help his development and has given him a chance. As most of you will know, in life you’ve got to start somewhere and hopefully given the chance he can make the grade for Newcastle.

This is not me saying that we shouldn’t be in the market for a new winger, because he may not be ready to step right up to first team action, and to be honest I’d be very surprised if he is. But everybody likes a bit of strength in depth and he would just be another name we can call upon when we’re struck with the inevitable injury crisis next season.

Come on Pardew, give the lad a chance?

  1. Richie….enjoy it while it lasts bud…

Need to go now and finish the ironing… 😥

  2. @Bobby,

This is on the old thread as everyone is no doubt bored of it…

Enjoy your banter, appreciate your opinions – not that I agree with any of them. You annoyed me last night as you completely failed to grasp the reason you had p1ssed me off.

I don’t care about being called young or flippant, as I said on numerous occasions last night that doesn’t concern me. What annoyed me is you saying I have had no life experience when you don’t know me from Adam. You have said yourself in the past “How can it be personal, I don’t know you” which is correct. Instead of listening to what I had to say, you kept banging on about the fact you had called me flippant which had ‘put me in a teenage huff’. I made it clear it wasn’t that and it was the ‘life experience’ comment which you just failed to notice on numerous occasions and kept bulldozing on.

I am all for debate, banter and disagreement but only when people actually listen to what I am saying and not just reading parts of it and dismissing the main points.

  3. Hadn’t seen any of Lualua’s goals for Brighton before, nice to see we might actually have a few people in the team who can take a free kick when Barton isn’t having a good one-ala Kaz and Arfa. I feel position wise he’s probably shown as much promise as Ranger-so if we do get a winger in we should loan him out to a championship team, Brighton again? And if we don’t then maybe we should start using him in the last 20min or so of our matches, currently we have nobody who can change the dynamic of our game, but with pure pace against tired legs maybe Kaz can do such a thing. Would be nice to see those celebrations back too

  4. Aye Newkie, Gus Poyet is desperate for him back, rates him as their best player by a long way.

  5. NewkieBrown…Kaz must be great fun to have at parties with that back flip of his mate, but I’m sure he couldn’t manage it with 6 pints of snake bite on board… 😯

  6. I wonder what HBA & Goslings’s insurance will pay out if they don’t play again ? 😈

  7. Jobey07….cos I’m a conspiracy theorist mate.. 😈 naah….just joking…!!…just after causing a bit of controversy… 😈

We as fans are pinning quite a lot of our hopes on HBA being the one to lead us to success, the one to provide that something special, we all hope the lad comes back as good a player as he was before the injury. Could have an effect on our close-season transfer targets too…

Like a one legged chimp or whatever, in a Rs kickin contest?
On topic. I come into contact with a lot of Brighton supporters and they wax lyrical about Kazanga – as, they say does Poyet!
Time to tie the lad down and give him the chance to prove his worth as he’s sure to be off and shine somewhere else.
