Pardew wants to add flair at Newcastle.

Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew
Pardew's new dimension.
Now that we are officially safe we can start to really look at who will be brought in over the summer.

The 2-1 win over Birmingham yesterday was enough to see us mathematically assured of a place in the Premier League and banish any lingering worries of relegation. I’ve felt that we’ve been safe for a while now, although I do understand why people were still concerned about relegation, even though it had got to a stage where mathematical miracles were needed to take us down. This is NUFC though, and if there is a hard way to be found then you can usually bet on Newcastle finding it.

Not this time though! Instead Newcastle are looking up at the possibility of a top ten finish in their first season back in the big league. That would be quite some achievement to be fair, and we’d have got there without a host of household names. In fact this season has been built on hard work and graft, but next season Alan Pardew is looking to add a different dimension to Newcastle.

“I have got the owner investing at the training ground and I have got him investing in players and talking to agents and players, and I want to keep him there, so it was important to get a win,” said Pardew after the match.”

He continued: “Now we need those three or four players. Newcastle are renowned for getting them [the fans] off their seats, and we know that’s probably what is missing and is going to take us beyond where we are at the moment.”

“That’s the type of player we are looking at and hopefully we can bring one or two of those in to add to what we have got.”

I’ll go for a bit of flair, although no doubt we’ll have to wait and see just who these players are before we get too excited. I’ll be happy with that though as I think we have lacked that final pass or bit of skill to really unlock defences.

No doubt people will focus on the “hopefully we can bring one or two of those”, but I’m hoping he was talking about flair players only and not our total transfer intake of players. I think enough caveats have been dropped by Pardew to suggest that we can expect more that one or two players in so I reckon he was solely on about flair players. I bloody well hope so anyway!

Time will tell on that of course, but we are nearly at the stage where we need to see all of these words put into action. This summer is probably the biggest test of ambition Mike Ashley has had, and if he can pass it he can go some way to clawing back some credit in the eyes of the fans.

Over to you Pardew, Ashley and that buffon Llambias!

  1. i think the one or two players Pardew was referring to are the flair players he was talking about. He said in the paragraph above that around 3 to 4 flair players are needed to take us to the next level and I think its fair to assume that we wont get all 4 in one window.I think we will end up getting one or two great players and the rest will be mostly freebies and lesser known ones…fine with me as long as the good ones are match winners who can win a match on their own on their day…we really dont have anybody like that.

  2. I still don’t believe we should be discussing future transfers until we are mathematically safe!!!! 😥 👿

  3. Jobey – bobby always taken the ****. Record time though this, just two posts before he acts the **** and tries to deflect yet another thread to bickering.

  4. We defintely need flair…Ben Afra will do that as will Gosling & with Barton, Jonas, Tiote we have the makings of a good midfield.

I made this comment yesterday but no-one seemed to pick up on it…but I reckon that Hoilett from Blackburn would be a good addition to our squad?!?

  5. Personally, I suspect Bobby isn’t very good at maths & that was a genuine comment… 😉

  6. The journalist who wrote the quotes should be shot – Pardew categorically does not want FLAIR players. I WAS THERE at the interview.

Pardew has been concerned that some of the young players have been restricting the blood to their legs and that had hindered their recovery from injury (hence our present injury problems)

Pardew knows the club is being criticised by the fans for its poor handling of injuries. So Pardew has instructed all player, at all times, to wear flairs – 24 inchers at that.

He has gone so far as to have suits made for all of the players – 70s style. Colo looks particulalry great :lol”

The misquote comes from the journalists not understanding Pardews references to medical terms – he is intending to play players who are recently back from injury in the flairs on matchdays too. For maximum healing benefit the players must run straight legged too.

Pardews long term ambition is to have 11 players all on the pitch in flairs – but the expense of real big flairy ones is worrying Mike Ashley.

    😯 😯

Howa Toonsy – you know I want Booby banned just so I can take the pee out of him – but I thought that was funny – don’t take this the wrong way fella but your reaction on that one was a bit OTT – everything he types isn’t with bad intentions – it usually has an element of humour in it – just sniff solvents for a few hours before reading and they all make sense and you can see it! 😆

      (Quote)

  10. Witters – To you maybe. To me its very much got “still up and staying up” written all over it 😀

  12. toonsy what do you reckon our leauge position will be after the last game,i reckon we are defo on for 11th too 14th ,but think we might finish 10th 😕

      (Quote)

  13. Ok Ok – enough of me defending Booby – I’ve had a change of heart – can you please ban him now Toonsy 😆

      (Quote)

  14. Batty – Had a look earlier and I reckon the lowest we can finish is 15th. I’d say somewhere between 10th and 14th mate. Depends. I reckon we should realistically be aiming for three points from the last two games. 47 Points, will that be enough for tenth 😕

      (Quote)

  15. toonsy thats what iam thinking 47 points 10th ,cant see us finishing 15th though ,reckon me bet is touch n go 😉

  16. Well I have a gut feeling that NUFC will upset the apple cart with a shock win at Chelski next week……
But then conspire to lose at home to WBA the week after.
Would kind of sum up our season really.
Finishing 10th tho would be great.

      (Quote)

  17. any 1 reckon that should be it for tiote this season 😕 another yellow and he will miss 3 games

      (Quote)

  18. agree Batty, I would send him off for an early holiday now.
Not worth starting the season with a 3 match ban. 😯

  19. MacLash brummie manager reckons STaylor should have gotten a red card for a hong-kong fuey elbow challenge in the first half, before any of the goas went in……game changing decision apparently. Smells like sower grapes like…or was he right ? 😕

  20. if the ref didn’t see the elbow, could saylor face charges from the FA with video evidence???

  21. MM – it was a straight red for me – and when he fell down again for their goal I thought “no change there then”

      (Quote)

  22. Howa Batty that’s unfair.

Nee wonder you want him in the team – its a guaranteed way of finishing as low as possible!

I think from an idealists point of view – I’d like us to finish either 10th or 15th this year

    mrgreen: mrgreen:

  24. Also seen in the sunday sun we’re looking at O’Hara at Wolves if they go down – said before I would want him here, I wanted him on loan before Wolves got him.

      (Quote)

  25. Batty not sure why you think I’m sly? Its just I was privy to Pardew holding a numerology meeting with Beebop Aloola a world renowned numerologist.

Beebop said that if we finish 10th or 15th this year, that Austin Powers would sign for us, and everyone knows Austin has the best flairs in the business 😆

      (Quote)

  26. He’s a better player than Smith and Guthrie, either of them could easily leave in the summer.

      (Quote)

  27. Hope we sign Bee Gee, Austin Powers, Hip EE, and Starsky and Hutch – that’s 5 top drawer flair players

      (Quote)

  28. Just called Hip Ee and asked him if he was signing for us – he said “Yeahhhhh Mannnnnn” you heard it here first

      (Quote)

  29. could some knowledgeable type not wearing flairs, please answer my question at 29?

      (Quote)

  30. Apparently Emergency is going to sign too – he is a very bright flare – can only be brought out once but sure to get attention

      (Quote)

  31. On a personal level hope Chelsea win but on a NUFC level hope Man U win because it would then be almost pointless for Chelsea to be still going for the title when we play them next week.

Off topic again…. I think if it’s true that Norwich are interested in Forster we should look to sending him there next season. It would be an opportunity to watch him in the prem. They must rate him highly if they think he can go from League 1 to the prem with them. 😕

Never heard of him – any good?

The 46-year-old divorcee’s personal wealth grew by £378m to £1,268m last year, the highly-respected guide to the super-wealthy claims, making him the richest person in the North-East by £830m.

Ashley, who paid £134m for the Magpies in 2007, has benefited from the recovery of his Sports Direct chain, with his personal stake now worth £812m.

  37. What do people think about Hitzlsperger as a back up for when Tiote is suspended? 2 players for every position and all that.

  38. Colin might have had a few pints when he tweeted that, theres more chance of Lovenkrands getting the number 9 shirt next season.

  39. DJG @47 would rather send Krul out to them on loan and keep Forster here , i am begining to doubt if Krul is as good as we thought . He seems to come steaming out his goal too much and still flaps at crosses , Forster has a massive build and i think could handle the high balls in a packed goal mouth better .

      (Quote)

  40. He did an interview after the game yesterday and sounds like a nice guy who would fit in no probs aswell. I think we are missing a german player. 😛 Can’t explain why like.

  41. Reet…I’ve mentioned it in 2 threads now & no-one has bothered to comment (for or against) so I’m going to bobby on yo arses & mention Hoilett on every single thread from nowon… 😉

Anyway…from what I’ve seen I reckon Hoilett would be a real good signing, he’s positive, technically very good, good crosser & better off at the toon than Blackburn…

      (Quote)

  42. Axel, thing is though people have said that Forsters kicking is poor and he’s too big to make good reaction saves. Personally I think the prem might be a bridge too far for him. It’s two very different things playing in a well protected SPL team and playing in a struggling EPL team, I think Krul has done very well and apart from one error was good again yesterday. The goal was a total ****-up by the defenders aswell and nowt to do with him.

      (Quote)

  43. I think he’s talking **** as most people expected a £10m to £15m budget before Carroll went so he’s just going from that.

      (Quote)

  44. As long as we enter next season with some quality up front and cover in positions we lack then im happy regardless of £45m being spent or £4.5m… 😉

  45. Witters, I like what I’ve seen of him.

I’d gladly take Hoilett, Samba and Jones off their hands 😉

  46. I see The Metro is apparently saying Tottenham are gonna throw money at us alongside Wilson Palacios in order to get Tiote.

Apparently Palacios, Sandra and Huddlestone as holding midfielders aren’t enough for Tottenham.

      (Quote)

  47. Pfft Tottenham can do one. They will be as successful with Tiote as they were with Carroll. We have to see them as competitors anyway, considering they are dropping down and we should be rising up.

      (Quote)

  48. Tottenham are the best and worst example of how to run a Premiership club.

They sell their big players and make a profit but then use the money to boost the rest of the squad. They improve every year and end up making money.

Yet they are also the worst example because they are the worst offenders of buying good players and never playing them purely so no one else can have them. It’s extremely annoying.

On your comment, I’d have Samba he looked awesome yesterday. Not sure Jones is an improvement tho…

Stardust…I think Hoilett would prove your reservations were ill founded!
