One Jose in, one Jose out?

Newcastle eye anouther Jose?
I’ve noticed we’ve linked with José Salomón Rondón of Malaga from La Liga. He’s been in very good form this season after his £3.5 million move from Las Palmas last summer.

From what I’ve read about Rondon he seems to be in the same mould as Carroll, and at 6ft 1in he’s certainly not lacking in the height department. The Venezuelan centre-forward has scored 14 goals in 29 league games this season, and has scored two in his last two games.

At 21-years-old Rondon is the exact age that Newcastle are said to be at looking under the current regime. I know that Alan Pardew has said that he wants experience, but even though Rondon is 21 he has already played 124 first team games scoring 39 goals along the way. That strike rate isn’t the best, but at 21 he’s still developing and has time on his side.

For Malaga he usually plays with an attacking midfielder in the form of ex-Arsenal midfielder Julio Baptista just behind him. That should stand him in good stead if he does end up signing for us, because next season we’ll be needing someone suited to that role after Alan Pardew announced his intentions to have Hatem Ben playing off a striker. Obviously as we’re Newcastle we will be encountering injuries so he will also need to be able to play in a two man strike-force which I’m confident he’ll be able to do.

For any of you Spanish football viewers you may have seen him play on Saturday away at Athletico Madrid, where he scored a very good headed goal and looked like a good all-round player. He showed some pace and a lot of strength and, most importantly, he also seemed aware of when to pass and when to shoot which meant that his team built some good attacks. Something we’re missing at the moment with the link between our midfield and strikers being limited.

The price which has been mentioned is somewhere in the region of £5 million, but in my opinion if he was available for anything less than £8 million he would be a very good acquisition. Due to Malaga’s lower league position they’re very much a selling club so I think a deal for their top striker would be good for both parties.

I know some will say that we’ve not been so successful when buying strikers from the Spanish league and they’re not wrong, but Albert Luque and Xisco are a very different build to this player. Luque and Xisco were very weak and weren’t suited to the Premier league. Rondon is completely different with a bigger build and he’s also a lot stronger.

This is just another rumour which has been mentioned, but with Kevin Gameiro and Gervinho wanting Champions League football, I’d say Rondon would be a pretty good alternative.

  1. The lad seems to be just what we need , according to the daily mail we are also interested in Demba Ba from west ham and Graham from Watford . Hope we could get all 3 but its all just rumors and will probably end up with only 1 .

  2. Or none 😆

I’d probably take demba ba out of the three. He’s played in the premier league so would be less of a risk imo.

  3. Guys- Miroslav Klose and Andrea Pirlo are both available on free transfers this season
Would you be willing to take up any one of them?

  4. Pirlo was finished 2 years ago, and Klose only turns up for internationals. these are the kind of stupid buys/frees we used to do. no thanks 😀

  5. Jobey-I know mate but Pirlo is only 31 and I beleive that he can offer us something with his creativity and presence…and about Klose-The guy does it for his country on a regular basis so what if the problem is that he has not blended into his club team as such…I think he is still one of the best finishers around…just a thought though 😉

  6. The wages for klose or pirlo would be ridiculous. Also, at their age, you know they would experience ridiculous injuries while with us. No thank you.

  7. About £60k a week for Klose allegedly 😯 , bargain for a 32 year year old. FFS wouldn’t have thought twice 😆

  8. Lifted from the rumour site:

    11 May 2011 18:44:31
    INSIDE INFO.
Pardew has been given all of the Carroll money to invest in the summer but we shouldnt get to excited as Ashley will not brake the current wage structure so it is unlikely that we can attract the big names we all crave.
I have been told that the gaffer is confident of bringing in four or five new faces and will place bids for
    Robbie Keen (spurs)
    Jason Roberts (blackburn)
    Danny Gabbidon (west ham)
    Matt Jarvis (wolves)
    Dixon Etuhu (fulham)

Robbie Keane? Robbie f@^£”!g Keane? For goodness sake!

  9. Can’t see us going for a 33 year old….

So Ashley will break the age criteria but not the wage criteria? Hmm haddaway an shite man

  10. lesh……wouldn’t take any notice of that, 3x over 30’s 1 approaching 30 and those players would mean Carr has been completely wasting his time scouring Europe…inside info, my arse 😉 😀

  11. Richie… you’re right of course and I do treat that rumour site as source of amusent – it always provokes a reaction!

Ba has a knee issue thats why Stoke never signed him, knowing our luck he would injury it again if we signed him…

  13. After last night, I wonder if we’re going to need just one striker – like this fella – rather than two.

With Ranger and Airey coming through (although one may go on loan) and Benny coming in for AP’s ‘in behind the striker’ plan we have options.

Big congrats to Beardo’s Boys! What a way to lift a cup!

  14. Sounds like we played a blinder. Or were Spartans just not that good? It does sound a bit unbalanced, to be honest. And as for home advantage…

  15. Cheers, Dan. I’ll shurrup about it then. 😀

Anyways, this Jose fella is one of the more credible theories out there. At least he fits the club’s recruitment criteria These rumours about 30-odd year-old players are just so stupid. I know journos have the IQs in the shoe-size category, but can they not even grasp a simple recruitment policy like ours?

  16. Ba has been a handfull in the the games he has played in at the tail end of the season.. I have watched a few of the games that he has been involved in and I was impressed. If we can pick him up on the cheap, he would be a good buy..

Saying that, we knew nothing of Tiote before he signed, so all this speculation is nothing more than… speculation.

  17. I really hope Pardew takes the opportunity to play some of the young’uns in the next two games…A high league position would be nice but PL experience for the younger guy’s would be invaluable. They would be real hungry for more come the start of next season.

  18. I don’t know. The impact on our recruitment success of finishing 8th rather than 15th would be pretty huge. I think he should go for the points.

Shame – I’d love to see the younguns have a go, especially Airey.

  19. Here’s a plan: Get 3-0 up against Chelski, then stick Airey and Richardson on. Simples! 😆

Hang on a mo… didn’t we go 3-0 up against them last time we went to Stamford Bridgski?

  20. I also categorically agree that we need to finish as high up the table as poss to ensure we’re a more attractive option to potential targets. I’d love us to finish 10th or higher… can’t bloody wait to see some of these transfers come summer. I don’t know why but I’ve got a very strong feeling we’re gonna nab Wijnuldum… his name hasn’t cropped up a lot since we were linked, he fits the bill perfectly and has been watched more than once by Carr, who said we were one of the most attractive premier league options for teams in the Dutch league. He’s pacey, young and exciting. Would love to see him come in.

  22. I can see what your saying Whumpie but I reckon we are not going to miss out on a potential target becase we ended up 11th instead of 9th. Give the young fella’s a taste of the big time I reckon….
On the other hand… MA might see some dollars going down the toilet if we slip down a few spots, so Pardew will more than likely stick with the usual suspects…

  23. We have certainly managed our injuries well this year 😯
Thank god the season is winding up… If it went for another 6 weeks, we would have no fecker left to play for us…..

  24. Routledge is back from loan as well as the immense and underated Ryan Taylor…. Tiote can put his shin kicken boots up and have a well earnt rest for a week…

  25. like the luk at that rondon mind , young , cheap and gud at scorin a few goals , sounds like the lasses around here

  26. surely, SURELY Routledge has gotta be given the chance to go wide right with Barton in the center!? One last chance to prove himself after the elation of a second promotion in as many seasons. Or blood a youngster or two, how’s Vuckic’s fitness?

I also reckon one of the main causes of our injuries has been an over-reliance on more or less the same starting eleven. Bigger squad means we can start to rotate next year and, hopefully, with undersoil heating the injuries will start to clear up a little…

      (Quote)

  27. Aussie @34 – bear in mind we could still theoretically finish 16th! The prize money alone between 8th and 16th is the price of a good winger.

And yes, I think we could easily miss out on targets due to the position. It’s all about whether they can see us getting into Europe the year after, and from 8th to 6th sounds a lot more achievable than 16th to 6th.

So for me, much though I’d love to see some reserves playing, the priority has to be on the bigger picture. Six points, please!
