Future Mackem slayers?

Adam Campbell - One to watch!
After such a brilliant season I’m sure we are all looking forward to the transfer window.

Some of us are nervous, some of us are excited, but either way I’m sure that we’re all wondering what our team will look like come the first game of next season.

We have a lot of good players in our current squad but in three or four years time some of our players such as Joey Barton (28) Kevin Nolan (28) and Fabricio Coloccini (29) will be making way for some younger and fresher legs.

After the youngsters showed how well they could perform in our last away game at Chelsea, when we were severely understrength and came away with a great 2-2 draw, I thought I would look into some of the other young lads we have in our academy.

I know it’s not always great to see players go, but what is always good is seeing others rise up and take their place. Some of these listed below may be the next breed of Mackem slayers.

GK- Tim Krul – 23 years old
RB- Danny Simpson – 24 years old
CB- Tamas Kadar – 21 years old
CB- James Tavernier – 19 years old
LB- Paul Dummett – 19 years old
RM- Kazenga LuaLua – 20 years old
CM- Dan Gosling – 21 years old
CM- Haris Vuckic – 18 years old
LM- Shane Ferguson – 19 years old
ST- Nile Ranger – 20 years old
ST- Phil Airey – 19 years old

That’s just a sneak peek of what we could be seeing with others players coming through the ranks such as Bradden Inman, Michael Richardson, Adam Campbell, Sammy Ameobi and Patrick Mclaughlin (for Dan) ;).

Also you’d expect some of our younger players from the current team may still be around with the likes of Cheik Tiote, Hatem Ben Arfa, Leon Best, Danny Guthrie and Steven Taylor all under the age of 26. I know many people will be thinking that we’ll surely make some signings in that time, of course we will, but there is no better place to look first than our very own academy.

The most exciting thing about that team for me is the depth and quality we will have in midfield assuming they reach the kind of heights that have been touted. Vuckic and Gosling are both very talented youngsters and have been looked at by bigger clubs. I feel they could gel together in midfield and form a very good partnership. With young Richardson also pushing them for a starting place, we could really have a creative midfield on our hands.

Also our wings are looking relatively strong with LuaLua and Ferguson both playing their part against Chelsea, with the latter being excellent. Shane looks quick, skillfull and he seems to have a footballing brain. A footballing brain is something a lot of players don’t have nowadays, he knows when to cross, he knows when try and beat a man and he knows when to take a shot. That’s something that cannot be said for another Newcastle United winger – Wayne Routledge.

As for striking options I had to put Ranger in there as he’s the one getting a run in the team at the moment, but actually I think Adam Campbell and Phil Airey may be the ones with more potential. Airey is looking clinical for the reserves scoring in virtually every game and hopefully he will be making his way into the first team fold soon enough. It is most likely that he will receive his first chance in next seasons League Cup campaign.

But the man with the most potential in my opinion is Adam Campbell. He’s a young man who Newcastle have had since the age of 7 and showed that he’s a good player on the world stage by bagging six goals in the Nike Premier Cup tournament held last August in Manchester. He was voted the most valuable player at that tournament and joins the likes of Fernando Torres, Carlos Tevez and Andres Iniesta.

The 16-year-old forward has already played for the Newcastle U18 team an made his debut at the age of 15. He has also already bagged his first reserve team goal so he’s most definitely one to watch.

The future’s bright, the future’s black and white! 😉

  1. @Bobby,

I have already given up on Ranger. I harbour no positive expectations for the boy’s Toon career

  2. Ranger, is nothing but a t1t, he clearly has the talent, but dosent have the work ethnic to back up the talent, I hope he doesent read on here 😆

      (Quote)

  3. Moreno – Ranger is still very young and he should be treated like that.

Young players make mistskes, do stupid thinks and are incredibly inconsistant.

We need to stick with him as I see him as a potentially top class striker.

  4. Why Spencer, scared he’ll bust a cap in your ass?

Even if someone sat him down and told him that his attitude is wrong (which has no doubt happened 100 times) it will go in one ear and out the other.

Let’s compare them to another Premier League youth, Jack Wilshire. First on the training ground last off it. Eats, sleeps and breathes his club and his career. He puts the work in every day and will go far because of it. Ranger will go no where.

      (Quote)

  5. I dont like Wilshire as an example, cos he has no respects for refs 😆 But I totally agree with what you said..

And yes that is exactly why I dont want him reading on here 😆

      (Quote)

  6. Stuart,

Agree with the sentiment, but we aren’t running a social care centre. We are running a football club which pays their staff millions of pounds to do a job and conduct themselves in the correct manner.
I have had jobs at 17 that if I turned up late 3 times, I’d be sacked. I turned up and got on with it, as it was the job I was paid to do.

Compare him to the likes of Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Jack Wilshire etc etc at the age of 20

      (Quote)

  7. Spencer, at least the lad Wilshire was big enough to own up when he made a mistake and apologise.

      (Quote)

  8. Aye moreno, I just personally dont like him 😆

Just told Cwarr straight like 😆

      (Quote)

  9. They were the first examples to spring to mind of players who were 20 years old and established first team players performing at top level. there are many more examples, they were the ones that sprang to mind.

      (Quote)

  10. It seems I have shocked you all into silence regarding my view that Ranger’s attitude isn’t good enough to make it at the club.

Apologies if I have upset you all. 😯

      (Quote)

  11. I agree with u guys on ranger. He just doesn’t have the right attitude to make it. I say next year is his last chance and then transfer list him if he doesnt wake up

    You say;
Moreno – Ranger is still very young and he should be treated like that.

Young players make mistskes, do stupid thinks and are incredibly inconsistant.

We need to stick with him as I see him as a potentially top class striker.

    I say;

That’s 20% i now disagree with you about.
What on earth do you see in Ranger? And that does remind me, I totally agree with you about the club and it’s regime but the ever increasing percentage expands.
10% you don’t hate Stardy enough.
10% your views on players in particular Ranger are often dubious. 😕

      (Quote)

  13. Oh and 1% cos I never trust anyone 100%.

    10+10+1 = 21.

    That’s why your called 79!!!!

      (Quote)

  14. I cant understand the amount of slagging young Ranger has been getting what exactly has he done wrong while he has been here, I cant remember him Slapping his Lass or glassing someone in the face or breaking a team-mates Jaw.
I just think he needs a bit more time to see if he can be tamed as for the amount of sh1te he gets for not scoring how many hrs exactly has he played ? then compare that to how many hr Leon Best played before he scored I am pretty sure Best would have had atleast 10 times more hrs than young Ranger has had

      (Quote)

  15. @big dave

Half the problem is he doesn’t do it on the field. So when we hear hoots, Pardew and the senior players continue to warn him about his lazy attitude then I find it difficult how you can’t see it? ❓

      (Quote)

  16. Bobby what does he not do on the field ? as I have seen him make a big impact in games even without scoring, But I do know you want to keep Best so you must think he has something to offer but still of all he played 13 games in the CCC and done absolutely fuk all except fall over or a few good air shots 😕

      (Quote)

  17. @big dave

    You say;
What does he not do on the field?

    I say;
    Hmmm. Let’s think? Score?

      (Quote)

  18. Bobby maybe I just think that some people deserve a proper chance, I can see something in him that I think is worth trying to coax out of him and if Pards cant get him to sort his shit out then bin him, but I just dont think Pards has had enough time to work on him though I have read where Pards has praised him and said basically that he is starting to sort himsel out.
I just think that too many of our Fans are very quick to judge on some players but turn a blind eye to others 😉

      (Quote)

  19. Bobby@93

Credit where credit’s due, that was brilliant.

    Dave,

It’s nowt to do with his impact on the field or his lack of goals. I just think at the age of 20 you need to be further along to be a ‘top striker’ (as Stu puts it)

Also, I think if he starts scoring goals and fame and fortune follow him he will become a problem. I am not saying he is currently a problem, I just think he will be.

      (Quote)

  20. Bobby you say he doesnt score how many games has he started or how many hrs has he played ????
As I said above Best played 13 games last season and done zilch but you want to keep him ???

    Good evening Mr Batts

      (Quote)

  21. Dave, my opinion is that if you are going to bring a youth player through and give them precious game time, give it to someone you know appreciates it and will use it to develop. Not a risky player who’s future is uncertain due to a chequered past

      (Quote)

  22. There’s not many 20 year old strikers in the Prem who are in and around the starting 11, not off the the top of my head anyways.

I think Nile always makes a good impact when he comes on, assited Taylors goal against Chelsea, made the space for Bartons goal against Liverpool to make it 2-1, came on against Arsenal and played well.

I really like Ranger as a player, we have to loan him out next season. He needs to sort himself out however he gets for too much stick from his own fans which isnt right – other people have said, players like Cole actually shot someone which is 10x worse than posing with a gun or being later a couple times for training. People made him out to be some sort of scumbag all because he was late a few times.

But if its a good player doing the crime it gets all forgotton and no one cares like Carroll…If Ranger had a few goals under his belt the gun thing wouldn’t have been made out to be such a deal.

      (Quote)

  23. @big Dave
Sounds like your not giving Best a chance yet he’s scored goals this season, something Ranger hasn’t. Ranger has scored 4 goals. None in the premiership.
My only point is, he’s lazy, not professional but I’m contributing his wages.
All those people who have been in trouble with the police did the business in the field. That doesn’t excuse their actions. But That’s in their private life. The worst thing for me is for him getting paid handsomely, turning in late for training and them not scoring goals for which he’s paid to do.
Why not turn in early for training and practice on his weaknesses.
If you can’t see it, then I roll my eyes. 🙄

      (Quote)

  24. Andrew,

As stated on previous posts, I don’t care about the gun picture. That’s not my issue. Neither are his performances.

I am just going to leave it there, time will tell.

      (Quote)

  25. Moreno in that case we should just kick him out then, and while we are there tell Joey to sling his hook 😕
I Know what he has done and what he has been like going by what we have heard from him, but going by what Pards has said lately about him and the way he is starting to knuckle down 😉

      (Quote)

  26. @big dave

Just to note. Best has never been accused of not trying or being lazy.

He’s scored 6 premier goals in 10 games this season.

      (Quote)

  27. @big Dave

Barton has never been accused of being lazy in training .

I believe you are missing the point.

      (Quote)

  28. Dave@112

Totally wrong comparison there. Joey’s attitude towards his football and his club can’t be compared to Ranger’s.

      (Quote)

  29. Bobby this goes round and round because you wont answer my question, How many games or hrs has Ranger had because in my reckoning he has had no more than 4-5 hrs tops and yes he hasn’t scored, But Best played 13 games or roughly 20 hrs without finding the net and that was in the CCC .
I am sure you get it but maybe you cant admit it 😉 🙄

      (Quote)

  30. The wide awake morning club beckons.

    Keep defending Ranger, big dave.
No doubt he’ll be tipping in for trainig bleary eyed at 11am.
    🙄

And he has one more game to achieve his duck for the season.

A striker who has never scored all season.

It’s even impossible to work out how much in salaries it’s cost per goal. ❗

      (Quote)

  31. Moreno the Joey bit was a bit of a banter in response to your bit @ 108 > ‘Not a risky player who’s future is uncertain due to a chequered past’ I do understand where your coming from 😉 and even Bobby about Rangers attitude I just think Pards can change him and we will reap the rewards 😀

      (Quote)

  32. Best didn’t get many full games with Hughton, rarely started even. He never really got a good go until pardew came

      (Quote)

  33. Fair doo’s Dave, I just had to instinctively jump to Joey’s defence 😉

Just want to say, I haven’t just turned on Nile due to recent events…. I have never championed him and fully expect it to all end in tears

      (Quote)

  34. Bobby what ever mate 😕 I didn’t really expect you to answer anyway the sameway Worky would never answer if he thought it would damage his argument 😉
So Best an experienced player gets over 20 hrs game time without finding the net and gets your backing because he eventually scored but after a 4-5 hrs without scoring Ranger should be kicked out 🙄 it makes lots of sense

    Moreno 😉

      (Quote)

  35. It was funny as fook, it earnt a re-tweet 😉
Cwarr blocked me but I can still see his tweets? 🙄

      (Quote)

  36. Ranger;

    2009/2010 championship. 632 mins -2 goals
    2010/2011 premier 560 mins 0 goals
    Total 1192 mins – 2 ccc goals
    Best;
    2009/2010 championship 618 mins 0 goals
    2010/2011. Premier 734 mins 6 goals

Big difference; Best has stuck in and produced the goods in the harder division and not been accused of being lazy.

      (Quote)

  37. Talking of Best, Pardew was saying not long ago he might have a chance of being on the bench for West Brom.

      (Quote)

  38. @126 I remember that shot that he hit against plymouth that hit the bar, quality effort that was, Hughton didnt use him properly

      (Quote)

  39. spencer- i saw you getting stick.

Dave- Not all the time though, often got the hook due to form. IMO Ranger needs a loan spell, one away from London, maybe Hartlepool, or Huddersfield under Clarkeys wing and sort him out.

      (Quote)

  40. Hes a bullsh1tter man, can belive you read into his crap, were other people having a go at me? Im not in mood for aguing tbh, feel abit shit.

      (Quote)

  41. Spencer, I’m with you on it. He says about 200 things and gets about 2 right if that.

      (Quote)

  42. Bobby dont know where you got the stats I was only going by wiki where it says Best started 13 games in the CCC 😕

But be honest with me do you not see something in Ranger ? and do you not think as I said last season with Best that once he gets a goal he will take off and be a different player ❓

      (Quote)

  43. The only one I no hes got right was the Tiote one, the stephan ireland one,ye he got right, but I think I could have 😆

      (Quote)

  44. spencer- i don’t read into his sh*t but a rumours a rumour isn’t it? I like to make him bet big things, like the cancelling of his twitter acccount if Ireland didn’t sign 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  45. 😆 I could have got the Ireland one right 😆
And you do abit, always tweeting him back and what not 😉

      (Quote)

  46. I like the know how certain he is. he’s not certain at all about Gervinho. as there is no chance

      (Quote)

  47. ayee, to right, on hold till an elite club comes in, its obvious a big club is gunna come in for him, and if they dont, he wont sign for us imo, then hell use another exuse like ohh transfers always fall through… hes about reliable as footyrumours.com

      (Quote)

  48. Reet thats me outta here Nite lads 😆 😉
Bobby I just think that Hoots wasn’t the right man to sort Ranger out and let him get on with being a d1ck, but I do believe Pards is and will sort him out and sure if he dosn’t we kick him out to somewhere in outer Mongolia,
I just want to see him helping the Toon out as I think he can 😉

      (Quote)

  49. Uh oh. It looks like Moreno is choking on the stats. 😆

20hrs game time without hitting the net? ❓ 😆

    Oh you make me chuckle.
    😆

Whilst your checking up and realise you’re wrong by quite a fair margin I will be snoring with satisfaction . Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

      (Quote)

  50. Bobby where did you get the stats? Not saying you’re wrong just curious to see where you found them.

      (Quote)

  51. Big Dave, your stats about best’s game time in the ccc probably covered the first half of the season when he was with Coventry perhaps

      (Quote)

  52. To be fair I don’t remember Best starting many games at all last season so I doubt he got 20 hours playing time. He made 13 appearances, not 13 90 minute appearances 😉

      (Quote)

  53. What you’ve got to remember is Best got a serious injury early doors and he struggled when he came back.
