Pardew says 8.5 out of 10 for the season.
Alan Pardew had a bit of a moan at the press earlier when they asked him for a mark out of ten with regard to rating our season.

Pards seemed unhappy with the media rating of seven out of ten and insisted that this season should be marked at around eight-and-a-half out of ten when you take the injuries and turmoil that the team has had to endure at times throughout the season into account. Fair or not? This is what I want you to decide.

Now I’m not saying that Pardew is right or wrong as that rating is his opinion. What I am looking for however is YOUR rating for the season, plus an explanation of why.

To keep this short and sweet, I’d give this season a rating of eight out of ten. Why? Well here goes.

I think we’ve done remarkably well when you consider our aim was merely to survive this year. We looked nailed on for 9th for a large bulk of the game yesterday, but it wasn’t to be be and I don’t feel too disheartened by finishing in 12th place instead. Losing a three goal lead is always gutting, but overall it’s a mere blot on this season.

We’ve had key players out for the bulk of the campaign and had a change of manager halfway through the season which, fortunately, didn’t destabilise us too much. We then had the sale of Andy Carroll to deal with, which looked to have tipped us over the egde towards a relegation battle. Luckily it never worked out like that.

I think eight is a fair rating as it also recognises that we could have done better during the campaign. From failing to invest in the January transfer window to losing at home to weaker teams to letting leads slip in injury-time we could have done better in any number of ways. For instance if we’d not conceded in injury time to Tottenham, Sunderland or West Brom we would sitting in 9th place. It wasn’t just yesterday that cost us a top-half spot, it was various periods throughout the season that ultimately cost us. After all, the league table doesn’t lie.

So my rating for this season is eight out of ten. Whether you agree or disagree is irrelevant as what I’m looking for is YOUR view and on something like this there will always be differing opinions.

Come on then, give us your marks out of ten.

I just fear Defoe would be the next Owen. Would rather we at least made a big effort for Sturridge.

  2. I’d snap your hand off for Defoe, he scores goals when he plays. If the price and wages were right for us he would be a great player to have.

  3. Batty, it was obvious watching them yesterday that Jose wants away and that Joey wants to stay.

Which is what I think will happen 🙂

  4. It seems to be the length of contract with Joey rather than money which you would think would be easier to sort than money.

How many games has Defoe started? He’s had a bad season with injuries, Defoe would improve our strike force in my opinion.

  6. DJG, how many times has he come on as a sub though.

You can make Ranger look terrible but his stats but it’s really 4 starts 1 goal this season.

So has Leon Best and not all of his appearances have been starts either. Defoe is playing in a top 5 team Im just highlighting his stats compared to one of our ‘lower order’ strikers. Make of it what you want.

  8. Personally I would rather we steered clear of has-beens and went for someone up and coming. There was a lesson to be learned after Owen and I think some have forgotton it already.

  9. DJG, I’d rather have Sturridge and we probably won’t go for Defoe with the way the club is now but if we got Defoe I wouldn’t complain

  10. Serious rumours about a fee being agreed for Gervinho. Dunno whether tgere true but I certainly think we’re interested.

  11. I agree with DJG, Defoe may very well be on the front end of a permanent decline. He should be a Plan B if we lose out after making a genuine push to sign someone like Sturridge first.

  12. Too rite DJG.

He has seen his best years. Saying that he’ll be leading the line for England in the next match 😯

  13. Stuart, yeah I seen that. Apparently it’s going to be done in 24-48 hours.

    Lets hope there right.

  15. If I can remember right Tiote recommended him and I cant see him do that unless he had a good idea that there was a chance of getting him.

  17. Ice, just few people on Twitter are suggesting it.

Would take it with a pinch a salt but his name won’t go away! We defiantly seem keen.

  18. Jay Bothroyd being an England International makes him in high demand, not keen on us going anywhere near him either

  19. I was agreeing with you, for some reason when you copy and paste it leaves out the faces and makes it confusing. 😕

  20. Saying that, it’ll be Bent leading the line. The only big money striker who has scored a few goals this season.

  21. DAN would love him but just lately the rags were saying he would only go to team in C.L. ,but thats rags for you 🙄

  22. What’s all this noise I hear about the mystery cm being Diego??? I’d be gobsmacked. Not holding my breath mind… 😕

  23. Wow, diego?! Totally forgot about that guy. Where did he play this season? Was awesome at Wolfsburg a couple seasons ago

  24. Andrew it was actually Bremen that he played for a couple years ago and did well enough to get a 20+ mil transfer to juve. I guess it didnt work out cause they shipped him to Wolfsburg this season for half the money. I really don’t know how he’s done this year but I know wolfsburg finished near the bottom.

  25. Diego?? 😯 No,i don’t think he fits into the “right character player” category.

    ————————————————

Diego won a penalty for Wolfsburg. Diego took the ball from designated spot-kick taker Patrick Helmes and then hit the woodwork 10 minutes from time. Wolfsburg later lost the match by one goal and Wolfsburg’s furious manager fined him €100,000 (£86,000) for failing to follow instructions.

He was also informed that he will be removed from the first team for Wolfsburg’s upcoming game against Hamburg.

He once again got in trouble with the management of Wolfsburg, when he on 14 May before a crucial relegation game against Hoffenheim left the hotel in which the team was staying, when he was informed he would not be starting the game.

This left Wolfsburg with only 6 players on the bench for the game that would determine whether they would play another season in the German Bundesliga. Wolfsburg went on to win the game 3-1 without Diego ensuring another top flight season for the club.
