My moment of the season is…

My moment of the season.
With the season coming to end it’s only natural there’s going to be talk of player/goal/save of the season. So I thought I’d take a slightly different route and pick my favourite moment of the season.

Now this can be anything from something that happened on the pitch to when you were sitting in the stands watching the game, to something that put a smile on your face. I thought I’d share with you my favourite moments on, and off, the field.

On the field there was obviously quite a few options to choose from, but for me Hatem Ben Arfa’s goal against Everton was my favourite moment. There was nobody happier than me when we signed Wor Benny and I couldn’t wait to see him in action. So for him to go and score a goal like that on his first start for us was unbelievable.

Unfortunately we all know what happened next but hopefully next season we see more of what Ben Arfa is capable of, just like he showed us all of those months ago at Goodison Park.

My favourite moment off the field came as recently as at the end of the match yesterday. When Somen Tchoyi nodded in that goal in the 90th minute to make it 3-3. I was obviously gutted, as I’m sure we all were, but the guy who sits in front of me stood up and screamed “f**k off” as loud as he could and sat back down with his head in his hands.

Now I’ve sat behind this guy for two seasons now and not once have I seem him do anything like that, so for him to do it there in a game where there wasn’t much riding on it not only showed the passion us fans have but also gave me a bit of a laugh in a otherwise bleak moment.

So they are my favourite moments on and off the field. Of course peoples off the field moments aren’t going to mean as much to everyone else but it’s still good to share it with everyone nonetheless.

So what is your favourite moment of the season?

Incidentally – Tchoyi’s hat-trick yesterday were his first goals since he scored againt us at The Hawthorns back in December. He also scored in a reserves match against us. Typical eh!

  1. Nolan’s overhead kick to start the ball rolling vs 5under1and and also Tiote’s goal vs Arsenal. Both still give me goosebumps when I watch them!

  2. Worst moment and best came within 45 mins of each other. Was at Portman Road watching an Ipswich game (best standard I can see down here) – listening to the Toon on 5Live. Had to suffer huge derision at half time when Newcastle 0 – Arsenal 4 rolled through the scoreboard. Best moment was being the only one in the stadium to leap up screaming “Tiote!!!!” and them delighting in explaining to all the pi$$ takers what had happened. Loved it!

  3. Every single goal against 5under1and, absolutely ecstatic all game, the wind up’s with the unwashed for weeks and years to come!!! πŸ˜†

  4. Exactly. I would much rather have the derby bragging rights than finish 1 point above them but lose 5-1 in the derby. πŸ™‚

They are clutching at straws tbh and I bet some of them feel embarrassed, at the end of the day they only just managed to scrape above us in a season that they started well ahead of us. πŸ˜›

  5. My moment of the season was probably beating Arsenal away 1-0, best peformance of the season for me – the way we played and defended as a team we were top class.

Tiote’s goal against Arsenal at home was also a great moment! Can’t even remember celebrating now it was just a blur πŸ˜†

  9. We won’t be signing him now, Hitmam. I fancied our chances if they went down but I don’t see us paying what Wigan will want now their under no real pressure to sell.

  10. The only chance there was of Zog being back in B&W was for Wigan to gan down as there is a snowball in hell’s chance that whelan will sell him to Ashley. πŸ‘Ώ
But for the sort of money been talked about, Zog can’t be the only or even best option.

Moment of the season has to be either Shola’s volley or Tiote’s screamer, both just quality moments and goals.

Maybe we should sign Tchoyi just so he doesn’t score against us again eh? Switch him for Ryan Taylor or something… πŸ˜€

  12. Zog only has one year left…if he won’t sign a new contract now then we can snap him up next year on a free πŸ˜€ Could make wigan desparate to sell…Not sure I’m too keen on us shelling out 12mil for him now but what the hell.

  13. Can’t see Wigan holding on to him, he might hand in a transfer request. I just think DW doesn’t want to sell him to Ashley because they are bitter rivals.

  14. I agree with Stuart. I think any slim chance we had of getting Charlie boy was extinguished when Wigan survived. The player may want out but Wigan won’t be desperate to sell at all now

  15. Lad I know at the chrony reckons this ‘international midfielder’ Pardew was banging on about is Arda Turan, they want 15mil. Personally i’d pay that for him if it meant getting him in next week and getting a proper pre-season with us. All office talk like, but we have been linked with a move for him in the past. Be a cracking signing.

  16. Barton’s/Carroll’s 3rd against Villa for me. I was so nervous that we’d be straight back down, wasnt convinced that a combo of Routledge/Willamson/Simpson was anywhere near Prem class and I thought we’d struggle for goals.
When Andy’s 3rd went in it was amazing, all the worries left me! Till the next week anyway.
I think if Carew’s pen had gone in we could have had a lot more struggles this year, that 6-0 on the first game back think gave the team the “we can smash anyone” spirit!

  17. On the field it has to be Bartons 1st against villa.
Off the field was at the @rsenal match the man jumped on me and hugged me and then went opps sorry wrong person when cheicks goal when in. πŸ˜† I was just like WTF.

  18. I’ve been struggling to get on here recently so not sure whats already been said.
But huge shout out to Leon Best, went from one of the first names we all wanted out the door in the summer, to our arguably top striker (hopefully just for now!)

  20. Aye Ice, even if Wigan took 12-13 for Zog, be worth shelling out the extra for Turan, better player in most areas. Plus Zog’s a wantaway [email protected]! Turan for me is in the same vein as Benny in terms of youth, talent, and option to sell on at a profit (not that I want to turn into a selling club like, but ye kna what I mean)

  21. According to sky we just missed out on signing Juan albin. Wonder if that means we weren’t willing to better espanyol’s wages or if he just wanted to stay in spain… πŸ˜•

  22. Aye but its been successful for clubs like Spurs. Shelling out for young stars that have a good sell on value. It’s a good business model. You don’t see many players goin to Spurs for Β£X Million and then 3 years later leave for nothing. It’s like when Liverpool payed whatever for Torres, got some good years out of him and sold for Β£50M. We only ever seemed to buy players that were 25-28 and then when they fell down the pecking order they were worth nowt.

Plus I think clubs like spurs cash in on big ‘names’ and want top dollar for players like Keane and Defoe, and really their manager and fans know they are over the hill, but they don’t tell you that in the brochure like. πŸ˜‰

  23. Turan would never come here. He is sort of a national hero over there and supposedly on some ungodly high wages.

My heart was in my mouth watching that game especiallyfor the first 10mins when they seemed to be first to everything and then they got the penalty. I think the pace and trickery of the premier league must put off some of the smaller teams that come up. But really I don’t think it is that hard a league as is made out. If you come up a well drilled champ team that can defend and you can batter these teams with good set pieces ect, sometimes thats all it takes to stay up. Thats why I hope we add some quality but also don’t lose the heart that was in the side, (that went missing in the 2nd half against bogey baggies)

Off the field – watching all the Arsenal fans in the bar moan about how they got “screwed” out of a four goal lead.
