Bid accepted for Gameiro and deal done for Yohan Cabaye?

Cabaye deal done?
There are reports in France suggesting that Newcastle have secured the services of 24-year-old Lille midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Nothing is confirmed as yet although rumour suggests that the French international has signed a five-year deal with NUFC pending successful completion of a medical as well as other formalities. Could this be the international midfielder that Alan Pardew was insistent that we were looking at during the week? Who knows…

In other transfer news, and according to more reports in France, Newcastle have had a bid accepted for Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro with a fee said to be around the €12 million mark. Gameiro has expressed a preference to join Valencia although it would appear that they are having a hard time trying to match our offer due to their financial issues.

Both of them are excellent players so I really do hope these rumours are true. Time will tell on that of course, but what I will say is that the French press are usually more accurate than their UK counterparts and generally have to have a verified reason to print a story. In short, they can’t just print what they like as they are under much stricter regulation over there.

Back to Cabaye, and a move for him would kind of fit in with our French scouting activities to be honest. There have been numerous reports of scouts at French games, Lille games even, so perhaps this is the man that caught their attention?

A box-to-box midfielder with an eye for a pass and a knack of popping the ball in the back of the net is the best way to describe Cabaye. He’s made 252 appearances for his various clubs and has managed 39 goals and 35 assists, but it’s only really since 2007 that he has featured consistently in the first team at Lille. Here is a sneak peek at Cabaye in action.

As I’ve said, nothing is official or anything so you can take this with as many pinches of salt you feel you need to, but if it is true then we’ve pulled off another great import from the French league, and all for a bargain fee suggested of around the €4 million mark.

Not bad at all!

  1. Really wouldn’t surprise me about the bid being accepted..just gameiro himself who will be the problem 😡

  2. We seem to have a little pool of players which will never go away in Gameiro, Gervinho, Zog, M’bengue and Now Ba and Cabaye, who looks a cracking player 😀

  3. I agree with you dan, most of them seem to be french players but there’s nothing wrong with that. If Cabaye is confirmed then that would be a great signing for us

  4. I desperately want Jose to stay, but am more and more inclined to the idea of M’Bengue, have researched him a fair bit and he sounds class! I categorically DON’T want us to sign Ba, however. He’s an accident waiting to happen and Stoke have since stood by their decision to turn him down, despite his decent form.

    Gervinho
    Gamiero
    Cabaye
    M’Bengue (if Jose leaves)
    and Nzog.

Plus a couple freebies/younglings. That, to me, would represent an absolutely first class transfer window!

  6. ive got a feeling we are going to have 1 hell of a team next season if we some how manage to get all these signings over the white line 😀 😀

  7. I’d probably take it as green that we’ve agreed to sign him.

The club arent well known for releases official statements regards new signings. They tend to be a bit behind everyone else, which is strange!

Looks a good player, it’ll be very interesting to see Pardews system next season as that will give us a clue as to who can expect a place.

  8. So if this is true will people change their opinion on barton and his contract? Getting younger better players for less money on less wages? Seems a no brainer. Let’s wait and see if it happens

      (Quote)

  9. If Cabaye was in the team what would the lineup look like? Who would miss out in the team? Cabaye is also a free kick specialist

  10. I always treat the bids accepted stories with a bit more credibility – most other stories from many hacks are a numbers game.

It appears this year beneath the smoke is a roaring fire.

The club look unbelievably well focussed and if they can conclude their acquisitions I think we may have turned a decade long corner and the good times may be about to arrive back again.

  11. I hope we get cabaye and he turns out to be the international midfielder, if only to put a kid on the “pardew lies” brigade 😆

Raffo – I said all along that was the idea behind Stephen Ireland (to replace Barton). Younger, slightly better if on form and injury free, although he would cost about the dame in wages but at 24 would have a lot more football in front of him.

  12. Theres no guarantee he’ll be able to fill Bartons boots. New country and different type of football.

Always a risk if you have a policy like that.

  13. Been trawling through French press, and they’re linking us heavily with Cabaye for Euros 5M, even though the ultimate source quoted is France Football website. Most of the articles have a surprised tone that Cabaye would accept the offer to play of us, when he could play for Lille in the CL! I can understand it too!
The French fans seem to think money is the motivation, if the rumour is true, and dont think very highly of newcastle’s ambitions even though they respect us as a club.
Would be an awesome signing though, cos a few coaches have said he’d be a great addition to Barca!!!

  14. Also, looks like old harry’s going in for Gameiro as well, although many say we have the best chance of securing him as no-one else will match the 10+ million we’re offering

      (Quote)

  15. Goose, something like this I’ll wager:

    simmo-saylor-colo-enrique (m’bengue)
    Cabaye-Tiote
    gervinho jonas/nzog
    Ben Arfa
    Gamiero

not quite my dream team (replace nzog with menez) but one off aint bad! Cabaye is more creative but I think he’d be sitting in front of the back four next to Tiote with license to roam forward more and start attacks.

      (Quote)

  16. If we offering a lot of money for Gameiro it shows that Pardew really wants him in the team, however if he doesn’t want to be at Newcastle then I would see that as an issue

      (Quote)

  17. Hitman – Dont get your hopes up, mate. Its all just speculation at this point.

My view is that once they see the wages on offer they’ll do a runner once they’ve stopped laughing.

We could be in for Messi but it doesnt mean we’d get him!

“however if he doesn’t want to be at Newcastle then I would see that as an issue”

I wouldn’t. He’d soon get over it, and lets face it if he agrees to sign then he is obviously happy to come here even though he really wanted Valencia.

      (Quote)

  19. I suppose you are right Toonsy and if Ben Arfa is talking to him that might persuade him to come to us

      (Quote)

  20. Toonsy – exactly, it makes sense to strengthen and change from a relative position of strength.

Stu – speculate to accumulate. I wudnt be the only one who was suprised at how good tiote has been. There’s always a risk but at 5million it’s a reasonable one

  26. Stuart79@33….Souness was an immense player everywhere he played….but just couldn’t do it as a manager…in England that is. He did ok in Scottyland though…

      (Quote)

  27. I think he was too dour, even for a scotsman-strange eh? I think he just lacked the passion and inspiration to hack it as a manager-add into it he came into Newcastle after the most passionate manager in the world (in my view anyway) just think what a shift that would be for a squad. They’re all dour in scotland anyway, hence why he did well! 😀 😀

  28. How lads,

Cracking news today about this signing (if it is confirmed). Really pleased things are going down the track.

I am resigned to losing Jose and I think Jonas will go too but it’s really positive that we are bringing in quality players.

The best thing about the news today is that no one had linked us with him, just makes me wonder who else is on the radar we don’t know about?

  29. That is a very good point Moreno , I didnt even consider who else we could be looking at!

  30. According to an English source, Yohan Cabaye is about to join Hatem Ben Arfa in Newcastle. The Magpies are willing to pay five million euros (the amount of release clause in a contract of Lille Cabaye) to engage the services of French international community 25 years. In the process, Yohan Cabaye initial, from this weekend, a long-term lease (four or five years) for Newcastle. (Photo News-Sports)

  31. Just woke up to this cabaye news. I like it.
Funny thing is a couple months back I was watching Lille games to get an opinnion of gervinho and sow, and cabaye really stood out for me. We had been linked with him 2 years or so ago, and so I was going to mention him as good addition but then assumed he wouldn’t be a priority.
One thing we now have with him is a legitimate set piece taker. He has a very good delivery and can threaten the goal.
On the downside for me is he is almost a like for like replacement for Barton 😥

  32. Anyone ever feel like editing the team on football manager, putting all these players we have been linked with and seeing what happens?
