Gervinho’s mind made up?

Gervinho tooning in?

Wil Gervinho be the next Lille leaver?
Well, the start of this transfer window has been very uncharacteristic for Newcastle.

Being perfectly honest we’ve usually found ourselves scrapping around for cheap signings as the window is coming to an end, but this season we seem to be doing our business early for a change, and I, for one, am thankful for that.

The latest supposed done deal is Gervinho from Lille. The word on Twitter is that he has already agreed verbally to sign for Newcastle United. However, it is only Twitter, so I cannot confirm this as true, unfortunately. But I do believe this signing is a possibility.

At the weekend Mark Douglas who works for the Sunday Sun claimed that Gervinho was 65/35 in favour of signing for Newcastle but is holding out for a bigger club to come in. But today brought conflicting rumours claiming that he’s made his decision and it’s to join us, rejecting Everton in the process. Hopefully the latter is true.

I’ve got a feeling that Gervinho is a possibility for Newcastle and we may well be in pole position to sign him, but the worry for me is that if a big club that has been linked with him, such as Arsenal or Man City, comes in it would probably scupper any deal that the famous Newcastle club has lined up for him 😉

Last night I watched Lille V Rennes, in which both Yohan Cabaye and Gervinho played in. Cabaye looked good, but the one who really excited me was Gervinho. He looked big and strong and tidy with the ball at his feet. He provided one assist for his teammate Sow after he rounded the goalkeeper and made it impossible for Sow to miss. Hopefully he’ll be doing that in black and white next season.

Also he seemed like he could play up front or on the wing which is something that Alan Pardew has previously mentioned. Pardew spoke about buying players who could play in more than one position and are flexible and Gervinho certainly fits that mould.

I think the Twitter rumours may be getting a bit ahead of themselves but I believe we have a real chance with his team-mate Cabaye just having agreed to sign for us and his international team-mate Cheik Tiote already being at the club.

Gervinho has said he will announce his decision after international duty with Ivory Coast, so hopefully we have Tiote in his ear telling him how great it is to play for Newcastle. This would be a fantastic coup for the club, but I’m always wary of the bigger clubs muscling in on the deal so I don’t think this transfer has quite been completed yet.

This may be a Ben Arfa saga, so sit tight and enjoy. Hopefully the outcome will be the same… Minus the broken leg of course.

  1. Where have Everton got 11 million from? Mind you, surely we would pip Everton? They can’t pay anymore than us plus we have the draw of Tiote and now Cabaye with Benny obviously…. Hmmm

  2. Why would he want to go to Toffee’s ❓

He wants to go to Arsenal or City but neither want him so he’s coming here. 🙂

  5. I still think theres a chance of getting Gervinho cause Tiote recommended him yonks ago and I dont think he would have unless he was sure of it coming off

  6. Everton’s offer is €11 million, which is about £9 million….. Isn;t that about the same as ours? If it’s a shootout between us and Everton surely we’ll pip it?

  7. Everton finished above us, have a proven manager with consistent league results with no money and weren’t too far from Europe in the end.

All we can offer more is higher wages and more team mates who speak his language really.

Better facilities, ground, fanatical fanbase that aren’t divided by two clubs in one city. There are loads of reason to choose us over Everton…..

  9. Funky, according to Toonsy, the wages is the most important thing, so I think we are laughing. Maybe 😕

Where did I say that like?

They are important but if we are offering similar to other clubs then other factors will come into play. I wouldn’t expect anyone to sign for us if we were paying £25k a week and being offered £50k a week elsewhere for example.

Toonsy if it’s a shootout between Everton and us they’ll have a party popper and we’ll only need to turn up with a pea shooter. 😆

As mentioned earlier, looks like Gamiero will pass us by, Gervinho however all set for sensational NUFC move after his advisors reject EFC

  14. But I also don’t think a champs league club will come in for him. Could be another Ben Arfa type saga this like.

  15. Is Gervinho that good though?

Yeah, he will be a great signing for us and improve our squad, but is he of a high enough quality that the likes of Arsenal, Man City, etc. would really sign him over other players?

He is 25 or 26 and I hadn’t heard of him until Tiote mentioned him. I imagine most here are the same.

NUFC definitly looking to bring in both and are using this as a way of defusing speculation in either for fear of 11th hour bids by rivals!
