Decision time for Jose at NUFC?

D-day for Jose?
Jose Enrique and his advisers are said to be involved in talks regarding the future of the player this week, with the early gossip suggesting that Jose could be set to agree a new deal at the club.

Now these talks aren’t new news as they were revealed last week when Alan Pardew claimed that Jose was said to the recipient of a “fantastic offer” to pledge his future to NUFC, but understandably fans will want to see a positive outcome at the earliest opportunity to allay any fears that we could be set to lose one of our best players.

Of course being realistic none of us are going to know the state of play until the club confirm either way what has happened. No matter how much “early gossip” there is flying about none of it can really be taken seriously unless someone is sitting in the meeting room with them.

My own personal view is that Jose will be away. I think the club know this which is why I think we’ve been sniffing around Cheikh M’Bengue as a replacement should talks not be able to persuade Jose to stay. Obviously we’d all love it if Jose was to reaffirm his commitment to the black and white cause but I’m prepared for the worst just in case.

One would hope that Jose would take a look at the impending transfer action that is said to be taking place at St James’ Park at the moment and think twice about throwing the towel in at Newcaste, if he ever was going to throw the towel in at Newcastle. Granted nothing is confirmed in terms of signings, nothing 100% official, but there does seem to be an awful lot of hints suggesting that there is a head of steam building and that the club is looking to improve.

With the news that Joey Barton is not going to be offered a new contract imminently it would be another bitter blow if we were to lose another one of our better performers. However, with interest in the player seemingly cooling off perhaps there is some small chance of Jose signing on again?

I guess the best way to play it is to wait and see. It doesn’t help the nerves of course, but it’s the only way we are going to get a definitive answer. Even those “in the know” people seem to be contradictory on what they claim is going to happen, and with them being so in the know but without actually knowing the same thing it makes me wonder how we are supposed to know? 😉

Of course if what I deem as the unexpected is to happen and Jose does agree to a stay on Tyneside it would probably be one of the best bits of business that we will conduct this close season, regardless of who we bring in. Keeping hold of your betters players is a good thing, and whilst that doesn’t look like it will happen in the case of Joey Barton, it may well happen in the case of Jose Enrique.

As ever, time will tell. Fingers crossed though!

  1. Rinton man, i agree with the stance on wage demands and also turning down offers should he want away, because he’s good enough and saleable enough for clubs to start a bidding war, which benefits us obviously money wise.

Obviously i want him to stay, in-fact i’d go as far as giving him the top wage that can possibly be given, assuming we have a wage ceiling, because i think he’s that good.

The thing is, if he’s holding the club to ransom, then the club has to take a hard stance against it or it could spell later trouble with many of our other players.

I know he’s in the last year of his contract but that doesn’t mean to say we have to accept any offer for him based on that.

Big clubs know his worth and in my opinion, will push the boat out sooner rather than later to land him.

No club is gonna want to wait till his contract runs down in the hope of being the first to land a free transfer.

It’s like spotting a dream home and going to auction, you know that you’re not the only one that will think it’s a dream home and you also know that the same dream home is gonna sell the minute the auction starts, so you prepare yourself to splash that bit extra to fend off the other bidders.

  2. Also whilst I’m on about reassurances, do any of you think, maybe it’s a little unheard of, maybe everyone would just think it was just a load of tosh at first. But, there is a massive amount of distrust between many fans and the people who run our club. In order to rebuild a bit of trust would it make sense to release a club statement (via the website/Pardew) at the close of the season detailing things like: during this transfer window: we are not going to sell these key players(…..) we are going to sign quality players in these positions (……) we are going to implement these changes to our training facilities(…..) ETC.. and then stick to what they say, I know there would have to be some leeway for stuff like stupidly inflated transfer fees or players who handed in transfer requests, but wouldn’t this do something to help instil a bit of faith?

  3. Rinton man, in a way, yea i agree the club should be a bit more open about what’s happening but sometimes that’s where big problems could lie.

Wat i mean is.. imagine Pardew getting re-assurances about players contracts…for eg we will take Jose Enriques as a yardstick.

Right, so Enrique says to Pardew “ok Alan i want to stay and sign a new deal and i’m happy about what’s on offer”…so Pardew goes to the board and tells them what Enrique has said.

So the board say”ok Alan, go out and let the fans know this”….

Now imagine if he does this and all the fans are shouting “get in there, result” only for Enrique to move the goal posts days later and demand a move.

Who gets the blame for that? Who is gonna take the stick for it?

Fans can be fickle and not just ours…but if that were to happen….the hatred already afforded to Ashley and co will automatically make them the scapegoats for what’s happened.

Naturally i’m creating a scanario here but you can see what i’m saying can’t you.

  4. Rm- The club does communicate eterribly witht he fans, but I actually think Pardew has done a good job witht that. He has pretty much told us in the past few weeks that we would be going for attack minded players with pace as well as strikers. That’s more info than we’ve gotten in the last.

Due respect to CH who I really liked, but when Pardew speaks I just get the feeling that he is more authoritative and believable. Whereas I always had the impression that Chris didn’t have any influence with Ashley/Llambiase.

  6. RINTON,club cannot give out who they are going to keep money talks m8,ie carroll is not for sale “but”35 mill got him the same goes for any player at 98% of clubs, but the good thing is we seem to be starting early, and imo there will be some late out-goings 😉

      (Quote)

  7. Rinton – The problem with that is that it leaves the club open for criticism. I mean look at it when Carroll was not for sale at any price. A price came along that was extremely difficult to turn down, although the club did turn it down, but money did talk in the end whether that be in the form of wages offered to Carroll or transfer fee or whatever.

Plus a lot of Newcastle fans would use it as a yardstick to beat themselves up over. “What? We’re only strengthening here and here? What about there?” that kind of thing.

I do think more communication is a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing and can backfire spectacularly and cause more harm than good.

  8. It’ll be a pity if Jose goes, but I don’t think he is irreplaceable.

He aint going to one of the top four in England, elsewhere in England perhaps Liverpool or Spurs (if Bale moves on), and to be honest within a couple of years I’d like to think we’ll be battling it out at the top with Liverpool and Spurs anyway…

That leaves perhaps FC Bayern (who’s first choice is this Concecao gadgy from Portugal), but he will cost 25million euros, and wants to go to Madrid anyway. That leaves who…Milan ? Haven’t they just signed a left back ? Jose will be running out of options soon…if he doesn’t want to sign, get rid of him and bring in a cheaper replacement from France..

  10. MDS i dont think pardew holds that much sway when it comes to owl-heed and ashley on the money front anyway, who would with those two 😕

  11. No offence to Hughton here cos he done a great job for us but i just thought he was too nice and being too nice gets the **** ripped out of yea as time goes on.

I wouldn’t exactly say he lost respect but i would say he lost a smidgen of authority amongst certain players and maybe other players could sense that things were a bit too easy going in terms of focus on the job at hand.

Sounds a bit daft doesn’t it.

All i’m trying to say really is, look at the performances before he was sacked in terms of players losing it on the pitch. It looked like they had lost focus in what they were paid to do at times.

Like i say, i’m not dissing Hughton cos i liked the bloke…but sometimes, merely liking a bloke “in the players eyes” can breed slovenliness amongst the ranks.

Can anyone see what i mean here or am i talking complete bollox lol

  12. Yes Wolfie, I think you’re right there, any u-turn regardless of who implements it would be seen as another negative string to the Ashley bow. In an ideal world they would have the oppertunity to pull off a PR stunt like this. There’s so many points that divide the fans opinion, and although I’m no fan of some of the things Ashley has done, I hope he can make amends so that we can start supporting in a more unified manner .. God I sound like a hippy…

  14. But Tiote and Ben Arfa wern’t tested in the premier league. They make a MOCKERY of the premier league. These players are BETTER than the premier league. The premier league is ****, totally over-rated. Im talking about the 20 teams that make up the whole league not the top 4 mini-league, thats something different.

  15. Munich- I just think most don’t clubs want to shell out a large fee plus high wages on a LB. And I think it will take both to get Jose out of NUFC. Don’t think ahley would be tempted at 7-8M. 15M is a different story

      (Quote)

  16. JB and Nolan loved CH cos they could push him around…Pardew won’t allow that so JB has spat his dummy out… 👿 👿

  20. MDS….I think Ashley may have to settle for 7-8 million…unless a bidding war breaks out, but I cannae see it happening. 15 mill would be GREAT if we could get it mind…

Maybe Jose is just hanging out for a humongous pay rise, I mean he is under no pressure to commit, and holds all the cards…sensible move if you ask me…wait until the last minute, then sign up…

Sporting wise, I don’t think Jose will benefit moving to Liverpool or Spuds…they are both playing in the europa league, if he waits a year he’ll be playing there with the toon too !

      (Quote)

  21. Ice – I reckon it’s worth remembering that all we’ve heard are “rumours” that the player would prefer a move to Spain. I’d prefer a Ferrari but I’m open to the idea of owning a Porsche instead, that kind of thing.

Munich – Nah, nights again tonight and tomorrow. Start at 20:30, finish at 10:30 😯

  22. Mds, Dog, Toonsy, you’ve got very good points, I’m just trying to think of how a better relationship between fans and owners could be fast tracked. He tried it with money by offering the 10 year deal, (cracking deal) yet this was still met with a lot of cynicism. And it looks like he’s trying to do something now by supposedly going for some quality signings, yet as you say Icedog you expect to see some outgoings, that’s how I feel, there’s an air of mistrust, for every good thing put in place there must be a bad one round the corner.. so how does it get sorted?

I’m not sure mate- short of replacing Llambiase. I don’t know what value the man provides behind the scenes, but he seems to rub all of us the wrong way a la Dennis wise.

I think what most us want to see, more than communicaiton, is action not words- bring in good players and don’t sell our best players.

As for the comings and goings, as we’ve learned it’s best to judge a transfer window after it’s done and dusted.

I’m just thinking of the ££££ mate. It’s nights and I wanted to shift off them really, but I guess doing only one week in ten on nights is an improvement. Plus I get four hours in the middle, with pay, that I can spend at my leisure (sleeping) 😆

  31. I really cant remember the last time a transfer window has kicked off with so much excitement, whether for good things as the rumours of Cabaye, Gervinho and Gamerio 😆 to the on going saga of extending contracts 😥 .

As regards Barton one good season from four and he’s whineing like a ***** whos had a drink spilt on her. He really owes the club a massive debt but guess what? he’s using the fans dislike of Ashley to try and bully his way to what he wants (really dont see that happening).

Would love to see Jose sign on the dotted line, but without knowing the players coming in for definite might just force his hand to leave it till as late as possible which in turn force ashleys hand to sell (dangerous game). If Twitter is to belived the excitement behind the scene as regards incoming players hopefully sway him.

  32. DJG@102, I read a similar article where the Liverpoodle fans were questioning Jose’s defensive abilities, and that he was prone to “lapses of concentration”…probably not totally wrong, but a bit freakin delusional if you ask me…

Funny line, but not sure that’s the case. Sounds like joey could have signed a few months ago but held off. Now it appears the club has rescinded the original offer once they were able to land Cabeye. assuming he is speaking the truth, it’s tough to sign if no contract is offered.

  45. MDS yeah the contract may have been resinded once we knew about Cabaye, but whos fault is that. After hearing Joey say he was gonna sign and then tell us he was going to wait and see what happened. In truth I am happy that the club didnt just sit back and do nowt, they sort out a replacement and acted very quickly and may have left Joey with egg on his boat race. All I can say is unlucky mate. Especially the **** we as fans have had to put up with in his first 3 years.

“Spurs embarked upon a policy of tying their stars down on long-term deals last year.

Bale signed a new four-and-a-half year contract in March and Modric committed himself to the club by penning a six-year deal towards the end of last season.

Modric has insisted before this year that he is happy at Spurs and he is adamant that he would only leave if the club shifted their policy and said they were interested in selling him.
