The Gameiro alternative.

Fee agreed for Erdinc?

Erdinc: The alternative?
With quotes from Kevin Gamiero today signalling his intent to play in Europe next season it is looking increasingly likely that he will move elsewhere, with recently taken over PSG a team that he is said to admire.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that we will need to be looking elsewhere for a centre forward. I know a lot of people will now be thinking, “what about Gervinho?”, I think he’ll be played with a striker and not as the main man, so for the benefit of this I think I’ll stop talking about him for a little while.

Who are the options then? We have a couple of possible targets close to home at the moment, one of them in the form of Danny Graham of Watford who was last year’s Championship top goal scorer.

Graham has been somebody who has really impressed me over the last couple of years. He’s big, strong, quick and can find the net, which is something which we lack in our current team. Also, at a price of around of £3 million pounds in my opinion we’d be silly not to look into making a bid, even if he was our cheaper striker of the summer. Also with him being a Newcastle fan it’s reported that we are his preference if a bid is made.

Another option currently playing in England would be Reading’s Shane Long. Long is another player who has had a very good season and his goals fired Reading to the play-off final before suffering defeat to Swansea.

Long can certainly play at a higher level and he’s a player who I think the crowd would enjoy. Long chases everything and gives his all with every performance, he’s also a calm finisher and has a knack of being in the right place at the right time.

These players have scored 24 and 21 goals respectively, that happens to be more than our top scorer in the Championship Andy Carroll and he’s now worth £35 million pounds. I know people will say they’re not Premier League class, but how do we know until they’re given a try? I for one, would be very happy if either of these came through the door this summer.

The other player that we have been linked with plays in Ligue 1 in France (surprise surprise 😉 ). That player is Mevlut Erding, he may be a name that some recognise as he was linked with us last summer, which leads me to believe that he may be a long time target of Graham Carr, similar to Cheik Tiote.

I would think that Erding would probably cost more money than the two players mentioned above and to me he is more of an unknown quantity which is why I feel he’s a bit of a risk. He has a decent goal scoring record in French football but has struggled slightly this year only scoring 9 goals after a better total of 19 the season before.

Erding currently plays for PSG, so if Gamiero does go there he may be the outgoing player. If we did sign him I wouldn’t be upset as I believe that Graham Carr knows his stuff and he’s obviously watched him a couple of times.

So, They are just my thoughts on possible alternatives, who would you like to see?

  1. Would love to see Felipe Caicedo (Man City). He had a brilliant season at Levante. Built like a tank but with nimble feet. Or maybe Anders Guardado (Deportivo La Coruna)
If all else fails, we could always go for cheaper alternatives like DJ Campbell (Blackpool) or Dame N’Doye (Copenhagen)

And if we miss out on Gervinho, I think we should definitely consider Vladmir Weiss (Man City). He is wasting his talent at man city… really hope we sign him. Same goes with Royston Drenthe (Real Madrid). he could solve our left back problem.

  2. He meant “European Football”

What do you guys think of Cameron Jerome? I reckon he could be another cheap alternative.

  3. Mick G…..aye but he knows Newcastle is near 5under1and and 5under1and is most definately not nor will ever be in Europe 😆

  4. we wont get gameiro. 2 signings that could happen in the next few weeks could be gervinho and nzogbia which would be brilliant but we still need a 20 goal plus striker!! please god let us not rely on shola ameobi another season

  5. i hope nufc dont sign Cameron Jerome he not good enough , ive heard we r in for cisse , dont know how true it is

  6. craigcoozy
“Okay guys theres player into today havnt git his name yet , came over night brought in by these two people charney and staine rod ????”

I believe he’s referring to Simon Stainrod (Ben Arfa’s Agent)
I’m getting excited! craigcoozy is usually never wrong with these kind of things.

  7. Sunlounger – I’ve looked at that and I severely doubt it his him. Look at his tweet history…..

  8. Good write up jobey! Graham or long would be good for us, but I don’t feel comfortable with erdinc. 9 goals from the Psg team is not what we want or need. We need just one top top striker and gervinho or any of the other guys mentioned aren’t quite it

  9. Maybe a big, quick bid for rondon would work. We know arse are interested but wenger is a tightwad. If we just offer 13 mil for him right away, I think he may come

  10. Sunlonger – Most of it to be honest. The Lens player. The one more after Ireland……

That’s three of the four rumours on there proven through time to be absolutely 100% wrong.

  11. well ya he gets some of them wrong. but he doesn’t claim that the players will be signing for the club. He merely announces their presence at the hotel he works at.

  12. Newcastle hit back over Owen jibe.. 😆

Newcastle have hit back at their former striker Michael Owen after he suggested they were a “poor team” on Twitter.

Owen recently signed a one-year contract extension at Manchester United despite making just 11 Premier League appearances last season and, after facing criticism, wrote: “Prefer playing less often in a top team than every game in a poor team. Been there a[nd] didn’t enjoy it.”

With Owen having only represented Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle prior to his move to Old Trafford in 2009, the comments have been assumed to made in reference to his four-year St James’ Park.

Having made the £16 million move from Madrid, Owen scored 26 goals in 58 appearances for the Magpies but was unable to steer the club clear of relegation at the end of the 2008-09 season.

Former Newcastle co-owner Freddy Shepherd said in the Daily Express: “We might have been a poor team, but we made him a rich man. It works out at around £500,000 for every game in a Newcastle shirt. Poor? Well, he wasn’t poorer for it. He spent more time ferrying between Cheshire and Tyneside in his £3.5 million helicopter.”

They only good thing about Derek Llambias.

Newcastle’s managing director, Derek Llambias, added: “Under Kevin Keegan’s management he was offered a one-year extension at £140,000 a week, which he did not take. He was already on £133,000. His time here cost £40-odd million, about £1.3 million per goal.”

  13. Derek has only said that because it upset mr. Ashley. The guy is only worried about the cash flow. If he really wanted to dog at Owen he would have mentioned the poor attitude of our then-captain like was done on here yesterday

  14. if i’m not mistaken, he’s the bloke who predicted the signing of James Perch. And i think he works at a hotel that the club uses.

  15. I think it would be pretty risky to bring in a striker who hasn’t played at the highest level to be honest. Especially if he’s going to be the main one.

Gamiero might not have lot of choice in this matter. If other clubs cannot match our offer then what’s his options?

  16. Gameiro is in charge of himself. He can’t be forced into a move he doesn’t want to make, no matter what Andy Carroll tells people. With the new Qatari money, he’ll very likely be going to PSG.

  17. Am I the only dreamer who thinks we have some sort of chance of landing rondon? I’ve got to admit, after thinking about it more now we probably still don’t have a chance even with all our cash

  18. Metro reporting that we’re back in for Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett. Canny player, would improve the squad.

  19. We stuck with Carroll after he had an easy season with us, and look how he did in the prem? Go for Graham and Rondon.

  20. I’d be happy if we signed one of the young lads from the Championship, as long as another striker is brought in too. As Stuart (21) just bringing in someone who hasn’t played at the top level is a risk!
