Cabaye the lad? NUFC blooper confirms signing?

Cabaye deal done?
The rumour suggesting that we’ve signed Yohan Cabaye has been going around for about a week or so now I guess.

Of course there is a serious reason to believe the speculation on this occasion aswell after the player and his manager both confirmed that Cabaye was on his way to Newcastle. Still nothing is ever certain when it comes to Newcastle so a lot of people, quite rightly, are awaiting official confirmation of the deal before debating the merits of the player.

Has the confirmation been leaked from the club though? I don’t mean in a cloak and dagger secret source kind of leak either. I mean in a balls up, sh*t that shouldn’t have happened kind of leak.

Apparently there was a video added to the NUFC website earlier. Not the bog standard website before you all rush on there and have a look. I mean the NUFC TV website. Now I don’t pay for subscriptions so I can’t validate this, but apparently there is a video up there entitled “Cabaye first interview”. Have a look for yourself here.

Well?

The question is, why is it Cheik Tiote in the image? Well I bet it’s simply a test using the last video uploaded. When, or if should you prefer to maintain that stance, the signing of Cabaye is confirmed they will just pop the video of him in instead of the Tiote one. Kind of like a test run if you like.

Of course it could just be someone pissing about and having a laugh at our expense, so what we really need is someone who has NUFC TV online to confirm this for us. I used to have it many moons ago but cancelled it, eventually, after about a thousand attempts so I’ve been reluctant to sign up again, even using the free trial vouchers that I’ve got sitting around somewhere.

It would be nice if somebody can quantify this. In the meantime I’m off for a few hours kip!

  1. Patrick Nzuzi insists the hard work has only just started after he was awarded his first professional contract at Newcastle United.

Eighteen-year-old Nzuzi has captained the Academy for most of this season as well as becoming increasingly established in Peter Beardsley’s Reserve team, and has signed pro forms with the club.

And although he’s a product of the Little Benton Academy – another off the production line for Joe Joyce – the determined teenager has come further than most to reach this stage.

Born in Lubumbashi in DR Congo, he came to England five years ago and began playing for Wallsend Boys’ Club. From there, he was scouted by Newcastle and he will now be based at the first-team training ground from next season.

“I’m very happy – but now I’ve got to really start working,” said Nzuzi, who attended Heaton Manor school and made his Reserve debut against Rotherham in October 2009.

“It’s a brilliant feeling but I certainly won’t sit back thinking about what I’ve achieved. It’s been a good season – every time I captain the under-18s, it is a massive honour and I have been grateful to Peter Beardsley for allowing me to re-establish myself in the Reserves after an injury.

“But now I’ll work harder than ever.”

Nzuzi – who can play at full-back or in midfield – can’t wait to mix with the likes of Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Alan Smith at United’s Darsley Park headquarters.

He told nufc.co.uk: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be a great experience and I can’t wait for the challenge. They’ve been there, seen it and done it and that can only be a good thing for me, to learn from them and improve.”

  3. Couldn’t find the mistake on NUFC TV but sure this signing will be anounced at some stage.

Other gossip, I see that cwarr07 on twitter believes that Neil Taylor has signed a 5 year contract with us. Cwarr07 anounced it late last night. I have no idea if it is true or not but lets hope so (as back up)!

  4. Well apparently the club have set up a press conference on thursday the same day the transfer window opens . Wonder if they will announce a few in coming transfers then and that will be it as far as buying players go , Cabaye , Gervinho ,Taylor and Gamerio/long . I know it’s wishful thinking but some of these rumours are so strong i am starting to belive them .

      (Quote)

  5. There are various sources on twitter and many forums and blogs saying that it happened,so I guess it must be true…and about the press conference on Thursday, Cabaye and any other Frenchman playing for the national team won’t be there as they are playing a friendly against Poland on Thursday night….in short I don’t believe that there will even be a press conference as almost everyone ‘In the know’ is claiming that its to announce Cabaye.

  6. It’s not on the main tv site – I checked last night – I believe the placeholder news item was visible only on the iPhone app

  7. Interesting times indeed. I have to say I think the Gervinho deal wont happen. His performance the other night couldnt of come at a worse time!!!!

      (Quote)

  8. Why not give the club some credit. It could be a clanger but it could be a deliberate leak to show intent about signings. If it’s true, it’ll be an international transfer which can’t be announced til thursday.

Swansea confirm Newcastle offer for N.Taylor. Strange though that they have only said that they have received the offer and not whether they have accepted or rejected it…

  14. I’ve just read the Daily Mail article on Gervinho.
I’m sure Troy is feeding some of yous his ecstasy pills! 😆

What planet are some of yous on, believing we have half a chance of signing him? ❓

We may have enquired about him, the agent may be suggesting that he is interested in joining us but surely you can see that the club are using it as publicity knowing they won’t have a chance and the agent is doing it to drum up interest.

Why? Why? Why? Would a top striker want to play for us when we finished 12th last season and according to Lambias a top ten finish is our aim next.!!!!

Great way to attract top targets by announcing our main ambition is to make the top 10! Wow!

Don’t get me wrong. Nothing wrong with trying to progress season on season but don’t expect to attract players like Gervinho with those ambitions.

Put the kettle on and drink a pint of strong coffee and wake up! 🙄

  15. Anyone know the legal time when people are allowed to start building work? Next door started thought it was a good idea to start smashing walls down at half 7…Gunna have to play knocky door neighbour half 3 in the morning and see how they enjoy being woke up.

  16. @lesh

    Realistic as ever.

Can you argue the point ? Can you see a top drawer striker signing for us when he’s good enough to play CL Footy ?

Our aim this season is to finish in the top 10!

    Get real please. 🙄

      (Quote)

  17. @ Bobby

Ben Arfa gave up CL football to join us and Tiote could have stayed with his Dutch team and played CL football.

  18. @raffo

I’m not a scout, manager or claim to know the foreign market but when I read comments that we have a chance of signing Gervinho, who I have since read up on, I find it absolutely incredible that some believe he would come to a club that has the ambition of breaking into the top 10.

Raffo, lower your sights and be realistic. Shane Long or someone of similar standard will be our likely signing.

  19. I dont really think we should get excited about a NUFC TV error or blooper whatever it was but i think we should be thinking at least the club are making positive noises;

so far we only have lost kuqi and campbell. Barton nolan and enrique may be thrashing out contracts but are still NUFC players.

But with the bid for taylor who i think is cover for enrique rather than a replacement, cabayes manager saying hes joining the toon and this ahmeid chap who seems to be one for the future, it all seems like we are on the right lines. Pardew knows its only june and whilst we are aiming higher next season we need bodies in and whilst these arent the marquee signing we strive for they are a start and i think a signal of intent from the club

      (Quote)

  20. Bang on Bobby. Its not being negative or defeatest, its just facing the facts and being real.
We do this to ourselves every t/f window. When will we learn???

      (Quote)

  21. Bollox, why shouldnt you aim high and try? Why shouldnt we go in for these guys. If they turn us down fine, but theres been a lot of positivity surrounding Gervinho.

None of us are privy to the conversations that have been taking place so we dont know whats happening. I would much rather be as I am in life and try to aim as high as possible. Theres no point aiming low.

Long would be a good addition, in addition to someone else. I would take Crouch too but why not start high before we settle for other teams cast off’s

      (Quote)

  22. If we can tie down Jose Enrique for 4 yrs and keep JB and Nolan for another year then thats a good move by the club, but me thinks if that was done it would have been announced by now.

      (Quote)

  23. yes this is defo a mistake and would suggest it’s true.

A young YTS (if there’s such a thing now-a-days) probably got carried away and entered details onto the testing server but published it by mistake.

  24. BB….never mate, but then it’s probably part of being a Toon fan, build your hopes up then get brought crashing down to earth, it’s been that way for 40 odd years 😉

  25. Raffo mate, we do aim high, but why cant you see that the top players you want, wont come to us and play for peanuts.
We seem to make all the right sounds, but have nothing to show for it. Plus the owners ambition is top 10, not win the lge or get into europe. Not yet anyway.
He’s not going to break his wage structure just to please the fans.
He has a 5 year strategy, and will stick to it.
    little improvements year on year.

you should have more belief in the Toon.

Why should we be happy with just S Long.

Other lower league teams can buy decent players, ie Wigan, Nzog, Birm/ Martins etc etc

Players know the toon fill the stadium and still have a good reputaion abroad despite recent downfalls.

    Aim high or why bother…

  28. @ANUFC

HBA was having problems at Marseille and was loaned out to us for a year. We were the ones who took him on loan and treat him well through his injury.
No other club was bidding for him at the time.

Tiote was playing for Twente and relatively unknown. Despite Twente winning their league, they still have to play the qualifying round to reach the CL. Yes to reach the CL.
They’ve never reached it the last 2 seasons and were drubbed 6-0 by Arsenal. 🙄

      (Quote)

  29. Mark, those teams you mention have to pay big bucks to get those players. NUFC wont do that again. Not after the owen debacle. And rightly so imo

      (Quote)

  30. BB…aye, one trophy before I die and I’ll be a happy man, is that too much to ask? 😥

      (Quote)

  31. Top players I want? Why who have I name dropped round here lately? Gervinho who is being touted all over the show as coming to us. Thats it. And what exactly is peanuts, you part of the S Wraith insiders club that knows what we pay everyone? 50k+ is not peanuts. You also need to understand that they play in a weaker league on far lower wages. The top top teams prob wont look at them as they will want to see if they can adapt to the league first, hence use us as a stepping stone. Perhaps HBA and Tiote will go after another year or so, who was looking at Jose 2 seasons ago? Noone but a decent season and suddenly everyone is creaming over him.

    Sick of the negativity. Bobby – 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

  32. Anyone know if there is going to be a news conference on thurs?

      (Quote)

  33. @mark

Who says I’m happy with Shane Long?
    I would be gutted.

But I’m being realistic. I would love Gervinho but he will not sign for a mediocre mid table club aiming to break the top 10.

He’s a top striker attracting the best teams.

Tiote and HBA were not attracting top clubs. We didn’t poach them from under Arsenals or Madrids noses.

Reading the Toons recent history, we are more likely to sign someone out of the blue, that hasn’t come under the radar, who has a clause in his contract and be a decent buy. But don’t give me the Gervinho rubbish.

      (Quote)

  34. Oh, and for the record I am actually happy with the way Ashley is handling things. I dont think we should be held to ransom and we should be looking to improve. I dont think Nolan should get a long deal, and I certainly dont think we owe Barton a new contract. I want us to move forward, but slowly and assured to break into the top 8 next season if possible and to continue to consolidate. We are dreaming if we think we can break the top 6 for years to come. We just cant hope to compete with those clubs making losses in the hope of success, and I for one would rather know my club is around to continue to support rather than spend stupid money to try and achieve another Leeds

  36. Richie – you would be suprised!!
to be honest if it does happen i dont think it will be a signing i think it could be a contract extension announcement??

  37. @raffo

And you are in the know about £50+ wages? Give me a break.

I’m also equally sick of the blind optimism that makes Toon fans look like fools .

BB is right. It’s the same every window. 😕

      (Quote)

  38. wigan and birmingham cant afford to give bick bucks. yes we may be tight at the mo but attracting french players on 20k per week is realistic.

I think we have a chance with Gervinho.

anyway we’ll all see soon what Ashleys plans are for the season.

This is defo make or break time for him, too many broken promises but now with cash in the bank he has no excuses

      (Quote)

  39. Liam….I’d be happy with contract extentions, that’s where the club should be startting imo.

      (Quote)

  40. @raffo

You are all over the shop with your opinions.

First you want a top player like Gervinho who is CL material.
Second you just want to progress slowly and break into the top 8 and accuse people of dreaming if they think we can break into the top 6 for years.

Enough of arguing with a wall, I’m off out to cut the lawn. 🙄

      (Quote)

  41. Gervinho will be on **** wages as well, I think we have a good chance of getting him personally – if we don’t get him fair enough I was wrong however from what I’ve heard and read I think we have a chance as we can pay all the money upfront – can Arseanl do that? Doubt it, not many clubs can.

      (Quote)

  42. If im honest id rather see a signing out the blue a bit like cabaye was at the time as it always generates more excitement then remember the ben arfa situation which rumbled on and on and on.

I generally think pardew will find players who will get ‘bums off seats’ but realistically they may not be superstars initially. I dont know about you but the academy has some great prospects and real desire and pace; and most are local lads!!

      (Quote)

  43. Raffo @46. Bang on 100%
    Thats the way it is.
I dont have a problem with that, But I still cant see us getting the likes of Geronimo if other top 6 clubs show any interest.
Stepping stone club yes, but only when we get lucky.

      (Quote)

  44. BSNO9, nothing wrong with telling it like it is, big dose of realism this morning with the Taylor signing, thats more like it and apart from the odd gem like Tiote, thats the standard of signing we are going to get.
Minimise outlay, maximise income, after all, Ashley is short of a bob or two and will bleed dry the 50,000 suckers standing with their blinkers on waiting to hand their cash over.

  50. “We have received a proposal from Newcastle regarding Neil,” Swans chairman Huw Jenkins told the club’s website. “But the proposal has not been accepted or rejected at this stage.

“We have received a number of enquiries from different clubs for Neil’s services and, like all bids we receive for any of our players, we will be talking it over with him when he returns from a break next week.

“Neil is a player we brought to the club this season from the Conference with Wrexham with a view to him progressing and developing with us over a number of years. The last thing on our mind was to sell anyone over the summer.”

Wales international Taylor began his career in the youth set-up at Manchester City before leaving for Wrexham at the age of 15 due to injury.

After making more than 80 appearances over three years for his hometown club, Taylor joined the Swans last summer on a three-year contract for a tribunal-fixed fee of £150,000 plus 10% of any future transfer profit.

He was a key figure in the Swans’ promotion-winning campaign, but missed the play-off final triumph against Reading through suspension after being sent off in the first minute of the semi-final first leg against Nottingham Forest.

Taylor earned his first senior Wales cap under John Toshack in a friendly in Croatia in May 2010.

  51. seems like all of the big earners will be gone v soon, smith (so what) Nolan (still has 2 yrs left) and Barton (still owes us big time for missing 2seasons)

Collo may be next? hope not as he was ashleys first big signing 11mil. Why do people think we cant sign decent players when we signed colo for 11m?

apparently Gervinho has a n 8mil clause in contract and he used to support the toon when he was a fetus
