£12 million then – £12 million now.

Charles N'Zogbia.

Charles N'Zogbia.
Could Charlie be on his way back to Newcastle?
Charles N’Zogbia has apparently got his heart set on a return to St James’ Park if you believe some stories that have been in the press over the last 24 hours.

I can only assume that the club are showing the required amount of ambition these days on the grounds that the huffy little Frenchman cited that as one of the reasons that he wanted to leave Newcastle back in 2009. Of course it wasn’t the only reason, but when the sign of your ambition is that you end up at Wigan then it sticks in your throat somewhat.

The other reason is that Charles N’Zogbia and Joe Kinnear just did not get on. It was pretty clear from the outset and requires very little inside knowledge to work that one out. On the surface it looked like Charlie was stropping off after a blunder by JFK, but perhaps on reflection the former Le Havre winger had a point.

N’Zogbia seems to have grown up a lot since then though. He was vital for Wigan as they set about achieving Premier League safety and put in a string of stellar performances towards the back end of last season finishing with nine league goals for The Latics.

I’ve heard nothing about him acting up or being the ‘big time Charlie’ since he left us so it seems that his attitude has improved. Judging by his performances you would have to say that he has also improved on the pitch aswell, so fair play to him. Suffice to say that I’d have him back here in a heartbeat, although I’m sure that we aren’t the only potential suitors.

Which brings me to the price. A fee of £12 million will apparently be required to secure the service of N’Zogbia. I don’t think it’s overly outlandish to be honest, and considering we apparently bid £12 million back in January you would have to ask what the difference is?

N’Zogbia would improve our team no end. If we signed him it would improve our left-side no end and would allow Jonas Gutierrez to have a go on the right-wing, which by all accounts is the position that he used to play before he signed for us and would allow the Argie to play a game which suits his stronger foot. By doing that it would also give Danny Simpson the kind of cover that Jose Enrique has become used to which would make our entire right side stronger as a result. Win-win.

I understand that people would have concerns should N’Zogbia return to Newcastle, but I don’t think they should. He is rumoured to prefer a move back to us so that lad would obviously want to be here, which ticks the boxes for some. Now we just have to wait and see whether or not anything happens with it.

At £12 million though, it would be worth it.

  1. Now that would cheer me up no end, he is a better player for his stint at Wigan and obviously realises what he is missing, come on, cough the cash up and get him in.

  2. The board just need to front the cash and be over with it. All this back and forth about maybe- maybe not getting quality players is driving me crazy

  3. I’ve never seen Henderson have a decent game, not even an average one in fact. Maybe I just watched him on his off days, fecker must have had a few though 😆

  4. Enrique and Gervinho may be sorted and Gameiro asked to come to see SJP. Valencia won’t pay Gameiro asking price according to this twitter fella:

You shall see, things can change but at present Enrique and Gervinho pretty much there!

cont…. although the club believe that it is purely a one horse race as Arsenal wont splash out and Man City have never been interested

  5. Toonsy – great article watching N’zogbia this year he carried that team he really did was inspirational they say parker carried west ham but only to relegation N,zog was one of the main reasons why they survived.

    Realistically will he come?
would be a superb addition and give us natural width. What about a double swoop for rodallega?

  6. €12million is nothing compared to Liverpool have agreed a fee, thought to be around £20 million, with Sunderland for Jordan Henderson. David N’Gog is expected to head to Wearside as part of the deal.

HAHAS,imagine ryan taylor in exchange deal again. 🙄 😆

Charles back with ryan going back. 🙂

  7. Anyone noticed how we could be the new french team;

ben arfa, cabaye, ahmeid, n’zog, gamerio!

  8. As I said yesterday we really don’t have much chance of signing players like this at this stage in our development unless we splash the cash.

  9. Haha, can you imagine, if a new player arrives, what’s your first language? the french crew is to you right (Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Abeid), the English crew are straight ahead or the Spanish crew to your left (Coloccini, Jonas, Enrique, Xisco).

  10. I thought we got a deal for carroll £35m but henderson £20m sunderland laughing! mind you they will stop laughing when ngog arrives…. 😆

  11. I agree 12m is not to much to pay for a player like N’Zogbia, and he would only benefit our team, if we can hold on to Nolan we could be looking at 20+ goals between them this season, and just maybe they can show our strikers where the net is…

  12. I’d rather have Nzogbia than Gervinho – even for £12m. The guy has obviously grown up immensly over the last couple of years.

He single handedly kept Wigan up and only someone with talent, skill and a good attitude can do that. Jeez I think he was even captain in some games.

  13. I agree with Stuart.

    Ahmed…you forgot…..and Scousers in the bin cupboard 😉 😆

  14. schools out on Zog for me… he has played well at Wigan but my strongest memories of him revolve around his **** poor attitude… I am not privy to what has gone on behind the scenes at Wigan so I can’t really say if his attitude has improved… He really was a sh*t head while he was with us… I’d be really surprised if he has turned a new leaf… time will tell 😕

  15. Aussie to be fair if I was being played out of position to accommodate Duff I’d probably have a p!ss poor attitude too 😉

  16. Apparently enrique to play out his las year of contract with us.

  17. I reckon we have more chance of signing Cabaye, Gervinho & Gamerio than Zog…. I really can’t see him coming back to us… something doesn’t gel with all these media reports… maybe our reported bid in January has fueled these constant rumours… I believe we have have other options that will not be reported until they are signed up… There is way too much talk regarding Zog.. This seems like a smoke screen to me… Even though I don’t like the guy, I can’t see him pulling on a Newcastle shirt next season..

  19. Either Gervinho or N’Zogbia would suit me fine, both players from the looks of it we are interested in.

I would love N’Zogbia back think he’s a great player, I do not blame him one bit for leaving us to be honest – who would want to play for Kinnear?

  20. Aussie 😆 ….seriously though the performances Duff was putting in he had a right to feel aggrieved, throw into the mix the arrogance of youth, and the **** that was JK it was never going to end well. I can’t remember any bad reports about his attitude at Wigan so maybe the boy is now a man and he has learnt a sharp lesson about the grass not always being greener. I’d take him back, it’s not like we haven’t idolised and continue to idolise players with a worse attitude and record than Zog has.

  27. Zog was by far our best player that season and our greatest goal threat when he played ahead of the absolutely useless Damien Duff…

Joe Kinnear treated him like cr@p and Zog felt he wasn’t getting treated as he should be – WAKE UP, HE WAS RIGHT!!!

He is no bigger sulk than Jonas or Colo or even Shearer if they had to get dropped for someone far less talented.

He is a fantastic player, can attack and defends. Would snap him up at 12mil.

Our hero Ben Arfa who has played exactly two games isn’t considered a sulk, when he did exactly the same thing to Marsailles…

Seriously, people need to be less sensitive…

  28. …..this a new(ish) blog Toonsy? Just noticed it recently, looking good, plenty of stories. Speaking of which, I’m torn down the middle with Zog boy. He pissed me off big style at the time he left, but I was still disappointed to see him go as he was very obviously a talent, just didn’t get enough games (or in his preferred position). I do think Wigan are taking the **** also, asking for 12m, but he’d certainly improve our squad. Only thing is, how long before he spat his dummy out again if he did return; and surely any team above us coming in for him and he’d be off like a rat up a drain pipe.

I have my concerns, and think we’d probably be better off buying ‘another N’Zogbia’ from elsewhere for 4 or 5m.
