Will we see some transfer action today?

by toonsy · 10 June 2011, 05:52

It's rumoured that today will be the day that signals our first real breakthrough in the transfer market this summer.

It's been speculated that Yohan Cabaye is to conclud his move from Lille and sign a five year deal with the club pending successful completion of a medical plus other formalities. Now not being one to speculate, but it was reported via our network of scouts (you guys!) that Cabaye was with withdrawn from international duty through injury. If true, the message is not to panic - if Stephen Ireland can pass a medical then I'm pretty certain anyone can pass a medical!

It was said yesterday that Alan Pardew is returning early from his holiday in the hope of wrapping up some deals in the transfer market. Time will tell on that, although I also feel that him coming back to work early is just another hint that we'll see some action today.

Just who is it going to be though? Cabaye is almost a certainty, but will there be anyone else rocking up at St James' Park at some point today?

I'd hazard a guess at no to be honest, and I'd also suggest that it doesn't actually matter. There seems to be an awful lot of unnecessary panic surrounding transfers at the moment, but I think it's time to remind everyone that the transfer window has only been open a few weeks in England. It's been open even less abroad!

Cabaye may be the breakthrough that is needed to calm a lot of nerves. It's been unofficially complete now for over a week, which has led to more speculation about whether or not the deal will get done. Quite rightly some people are taking the stance of not believing anything until it's announced by the club, so hopefully we'll see the conformation at some point today.

Once Cabaye is done, who next? Gervinho? Neil Taylor? Someone that hasn't even been linked? Well that's the great part isn't it? The speculation can drive you nuts so it's best to not put too much faith into it until something becomes official. Have fun with it, but don't get too carried away with it and apply liberal sprinklings of salt to any rumour.

So in answer to my headline, yes, hopefully today is the day that we'll see some transfer action at Newcastle, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if if today wasn't to be the day.

If it is though, hopefully it won't be the last day we see some action either!
