Will we see some transfer action today?

Cabaye deal done?
It’s rumoured that today will be the day that signals our first real breakthrough in the transfer market this summer.

It’s been speculated that Yohan Cabaye is to conclud his move from Lille and sign a five year deal with the club pending successful completion of a medical plus other formalities. Now not being one to speculate, but it was reported via our network of scouts (you guys!) that Cabaye was with withdrawn from international duty through injury. If true, the message is not to panic – if Stephen Ireland can pass a medical then I’m pretty certain anyone can pass a medical!

It was said yesterday that Alan Pardew is returning early from his holiday in the hope of wrapping up some deals in the transfer market. Time will tell on that, although I also feel that him coming back to work early is just another hint that we’ll see some action today.

Just who is it going to be though? Cabaye is almost a certainty, but will there be anyone else rocking up at St James’ Park at some point today?

I’d hazard a guess at no to be honest, and I’d also suggest that it doesn’t actually matter. There seems to be an awful lot of unnecessary panic surrounding transfers at the moment, but I think it’s time to remind everyone that the transfer window has only been open a few weeks in England. It’s been open even less abroad!

Cabaye may be the breakthrough that is needed to calm a lot of nerves. It’s been unofficially complete now for over a week, which has led to more speculation about whether or not the deal will get done. Quite rightly some people are taking the stance of not believing anything until it’s announced by the club, so hopefully we’ll see the conformation at some point today.

Once Cabaye is done, who next? Gervinho? Neil Taylor? Someone that hasn’t even been linked? Well that’s the great part isn’t it? The speculation can drive you nuts so it’s best to not put too much faith into it until something becomes official. Have fun with it, but don’t get too carried away with it and apply liberal sprinklings of salt to any rumour.

So in answer to my headline, yes, hopefully today is the day that we’ll see some transfer action at Newcastle, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if if today wasn’t to be the day.

If it is though, hopefully it won’t be the last day we see some action either!

  1. Not sure who but I’d like a striker please…preferably before we spunk the £35m on midfielders & we resign Kuqi

  2. Think there might be a surprise signing today, just as season tickets go on general sale 😉

  3. The club wouldn’t do that would they jay? 😉

What’s this about Martinez to villa? Have I missed something? Last I heard they were looking at rafa. How times change 😆

  4. there has been an unbelievable amount of bullsh*t to date around our potential transfer targets! So much so, that I really have no faith in the twitter BS artists – the newspaper BS artists – the “i know a bloke at the club BS artists and every other BS artist that has some magical insight into the inner workings of the club.
I enjoy all the possibilities of what is to come but until I see it on the official NUFC web site.. I will contain my excitement levels 😕

  5. By the way after the intial panic where everyone thought he got injured last night, it turned out that the commentator was misheard 😆 well at least that’s what my scouts tell me 😉

Anyway, i think that we will sign someone, god knows who and that we will also loose some.. god knows who!
at least we can now strike off that gameriro knob jockey as he has come out and said its either psg or valencia for him and defo not uk bound, i am pleased as i was never happy about buying a player who basically dint fancy playing for us…we learnt from own that route is not a good one.

  8. Well, my insider at the club says there will be 2 signings and 2 re-signings today. (Mind, the club I’m talking about is the local Working Men’s club – but they do have sauces!)

  9. It,s always an exciting period when Do we sign, have we signed comes around again, but honestly, when push comes to shove , if we signed the pontepool front row, we,d all still turn up next season cos we,re BLACK N WHITE.

  10. Morning. It’s the wide awake club here!
Can’t wait for the unveiling of Gervinho today!!

Ring ring! Ring ring! ” hello is that Fenwicks? Please cancel my showing of my **** in your window today that the dreamers booked. Gervinho won’t be coming as I predicted. It was obvious from the start. We just aren’t ambitious enough and pay **** wages”

Heads out the sand boys and come and jump aboard my reality train.

  11. Jay – of course 😉

Dougie – I don’t buy that mate. In the days of shepherd then fair enough as he’d want his time in the media spotlight. Its different now though. The very most we’ll get is announcment and interview on the website and that’s your lot

  12. Did anyone actually say Gervinho would be announced today? I don’t remember anyone saying that 😉

I do remember people saying that we have a chance of getting him though, but I don’t remember any definitive dates being mentioned. I can check back if you like, but when it comes to remembering what people say I’m pretty **** hot, especially when I read every comment 😉

  13. i think by the end fo the window we will have shipped out, jose, barton, nolan, ranger, routledge, smith and lets not forget campbell and kuqui at the begining.
in will be this cabaye fella, taylor and some proper **** unknown dross.

  17. Speaking of Mexicans how about Giovanni Dos Santos. Only 22 bags of pace and available on the cheap. Tottenham still own him but keep loaning him out. Am sure they’d sell for about 2mill. Always plays well for his national side and while he hasn’t quite performed in the prem he’s never really been given a good oppurtunity. If we could get the best out of him he’d soon become a crowd favorite.

I really don’t know why that lad doesn’t get more time playing for Tottenham. Madness.

  20. Toonsy -Cabaye wasn’t withdrawn cause of an injury. It was just a tactical ploy by Laurent Blanc. He replaced his 2 central midfielders in Cabaye and Diarra and replaced them with Diaby and M’Villa at half time….I saw the entire match myself. The injury rumour came when that Cwarr07 Guy misheard the commentators saying Younes Kaboul had gone off injured as Yohan Cabaye had gone off.He then posted on twitter and it subsequently spread like wild fire….

  24. Here’s some (non)news totally unrelated to this thread.

Earlier this year I reported that a paper was being produced for an unnamed Indian entity on the viability of buying a middle ranking EPL team (not thought to be NUFC).

Apparently, the paper has been ditched. The word is that interest in football in India is not progressing fast enough and that there is no financial benefit in running a Premier League team.

the papers are trying their best to portray Giggs as a victim.

  26. I think a good point was raised, in that the maximum the club are likely to receive from a potential sale of Nolan is about 4-5m. That is not enough for someone who will guarantee about 8 goals in the season. I do agree though that there’s no need to panic, both regarding incoming transfers and outgoing transfers, for Barton and Nolan won’t be sold for it would just generate some unnecessary outlay from the club.

As for the thread, I feel he will be completing his move later today.

  27. Mick G – 😆

Bobby – Difference with ardilles is that he was doing it partly because that is all he had to use thanks to the mess the board got us into. It caused problems because he was trying through having to, but trying to play too many at once. I don’t think TLR meant a full team of youth players, but more like one or two.

  28. The Grauniad’s got Wenger close to closing a £10m deal for Gervinho.

Given that the club had done its homework on targets, new what they wanted and was ready to spring into action, guess we’d better look at plans B, C, D etc ect

    🙄

  30. i see that barcelona have announced they have 45 million euros to spend on players plus what is left from anyone who is sold. With the link between fabregas stronger than the link with jose, i would say that jose might not be a target for barca at all. They will only be bringing in one ot two and if its cesc they will have all their dosh all on him only.
With Evra staying on at manure that cancels out enrique going there unless he wants to warm his backside like owen does. Chelski have Cole who is basically the best lb in prem, and one of best in world. Liverpool seem to be the only big name who might turn jose’s head. who knows, maybe the lad might stop on after all. on planet nufc anything is possible and i think alot just depends on how ashley is feeling on the day.. the bloke is a loon and cannot be second guessed.

  31. You are correct Toonsy.

Got a feeling we will be signing players from npower league this window. What do we do now Carr cannot do any more scouting.

  37. Wonder how the (possible) departure of Martinez might affect any move for N’zogbia?
If somehow Wigan bring in a high profile manager to replace Martinez I wonder if it might make him think twice about leaving..?
Or is it a possibility Martinez might want to take Charlie with him to Villa as a replacement for Young?
    Just something to ponder over…

      (Quote)

  38. MA Wallet,Martinez won’t leave Wigan this season, but unfortunately Nzogbia had a good game for France last night,so maybe his often spoke about “big Cub” might come in for him

  44. Whelan said they wanted £12 million so I would expect if we have bid £11 million and maybe some add-ons we might be there.

Wigan need to sell players to survive and they aren’t discouraging bids( their wage bill is 90% of turnover ) Zoggs has been very complimentary about the Toon on twitter lately. I think this could happen

SSN were reporting Everton had bid £9 million but I doubt he would chose them over us

They reckon they didn’t even clear a space in the window for me because they arrived at work on my reality train. 😛

Now that Gervinho is not arriving to our unambitious club, maybe Messi will take a huge wage cut and prefer to help us break into the top 10 next season. ❓ 😡

    @Toonsy
Gervinho indicated he would decide by the end of this week where he was heading and that is why many of the dreamers thought it would be Thursday. However Thursday came and went and so they thought it would be today.
If you go back you will find dozens of posts predicting it.

I’m at work and haven’t got time but I may later just to expose the dreamers. 😆

Nothing wrong in hoping for such things but my point throughout is, it’s not realistic.
I fail to see how you think we had a chance?
