St James' Park

Training at St James'.
60 days and 17.5 hours, 1457.5 hours, 87450 minutes or 5247000 seconds, whichever way you prefer it, that is how long it is till the new season kicks off on August 13th.

I’m sure I speak for most people on here when I say I can’t wait for it, I really can’t. Football is the reason I wake up with nerves on a Saturday morning, and football is the reason I go to bed on a Saturday night in either a great mood, or a foul mood.

And perhaps, this season we have even more reason to be looking forward to that date? Thanks to optimistic signs coming from the transfer market, our team could have some dramatic changes by the time the window closes. And it’s not just the transfer market that we should be optimistic about, our youth development looks like it’s going to start reaping rewards, as mentioned by Toonsy recently.

But of course the best thing about the football season is getting to walk up the steps into the stands of St James Park, the shrine of North East football, although that will be mixed with a twang of disappointment at the removal of any singing section (Bring back the noise!).

One thing that always does annoy me about pre-season is that the friendlies don’t start till mid July which means having to wait nearly two months to go and watch a game of football, which is like going two months without food and water.

I remember watching us play in a friendly against Leeds two years ago and Danny Guthrie owning the park like he was Kaka, oh how things change.

So when there’s no football being played I have to keep myself content by reading and as of recently writing about football, both of which I thoroughly enjoy.

So how do you’s keep yourselves amused with no match of the day, and football matches?

Anyway that’s my little ramble over, and at the very least I’ve helped pass another minute till kick off!

  3. some kidd on twitter thinks alan shearer is going to be the next manager of cardiff city this morning he was 12 to 1 now he 3to 1 i think there may be something in this 1 lol 😯 😯 😯

  4. Just read the Jose thread. I think, you’ve all missed the point.

The Enrique wrangle is tied in with the Nolan and Barton kerfuffle. It’s one out, all out. Barton is the key, as he is the one that has no contract on the table. Give him his contract and the others will sign.

I have no doubt that Jose would leave if he got a substantially better offer from a Champs League team like Barca or Real or something, but not necessarily Liverpool (unless they are going to pay outrageous wages). His default position, like that of Nolan and Barton, as far as I can see, is to stay at NUFC.

Don’t underestimate the politics within a football club or the pressure that players can exert. What we have is a power struggle between the board and the players. It’s typical worker v boss stuff. Pardew, I believe, is caught in the middle, unable to broker a peace.

This will go on for a long time and can only be broken by offering Joey a decent contract – or if Jose is given an offer he can’t refuse.

  5. As a fan from Australia, I’ve decided to stop dreaming about it and finally make my way to St James to finally see a game from the stands. Got my flights booked and now it’s just a matter waiting for the fixture list to be released and scoring a ticket (plus one for my amazingly understanding girlfriend).
