Jose leaving us in limbo.

Jose's silent treatment.
As reported in The Chronicle earlier on, and as suspected by quite a few people including me, Jose Enrique’s silence does seem to be deafening.

Alan Pardew has admitted that it seems as though the Spaniard doesn’t want to deal with the club at the moment after he received the offer of a contract from Newcastle. There have been no new developments on the saga, and whilst it’s not nailed on that he will leave Newcastle the signs don’t look promising. In fact to me it almost looks as though Jose is waiting to see if another club comes along, which is his right I guess.

“At the moment it looks like he doesn’t want to deal with us,” Pardew told The Chronicle.

“We have been asked to make him an offer but there has been no progress since then. I still hope we can do something but at the moment we’re still waiting for Jose. I don’t think there’s anything more I can really add on that situation at this stage.”

Therein lies the problem of letting your players run down to the last year of their contract. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a bit miffed that Jose is leaving us dangling, albeit by a seemingly thinner thread day-by-day, but at the end of the day the club have got themselves into this position.

To me Enrique is not like Joey Barton or Kevin Nolan. He is a completely different kettle of fish and offering him a five-year deal at the start of least season would have aligned with their stated policy of not giving long contracts to older players. He would have been 24 which would have taken him to the age 0f 29 under a new deal. We’d have had him for the best years of his career or would have received a hefty fee for his services.

Still, it’s not to be by the sounds of it, unless nobody else comes in for him. To be honest I think that is a long shot.

Enrique is not blameless in all of this though and I hold him partly responsible. Granted he could do nothing about his contract, but at the same time I never realised it would be such a hardship staying at a club that he apparently loves. It was a different story when nobody would touch him with a bargepole though wasn’t it? Still, I guess it doesn’t matter now.

What does matter is getting a decision from Jose. If he wants to go then fair enough, tell us so we can make plans. Apparently we are looking at senior left-backs just in case and Neil Taylor won’t be our main choice, although I personally remain sceptical about that.

Rather than looking at other senior left-backs I’d prefer to keep our current señor left-back.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen though, unfortunately.

True, yet you seem to have big problems applying the same principle to yourself.

In other news, from the hints that Mark Douglas is dropping on Twitter the striker we’re after is in PSG. International player. 24 years of age. Hmm…

NUFC want Gamerio – Gamerio goes to PSG instead.
Reporter looks to see which striker PSG may want to offload – Logical conclusion – NUFC in the hunt for PSG striker Erding

  13. Mucich, I actually saw someone say on Twitter we wouldn’t be signing Ba because Ashley wouldn’t make enough money if we do it per letter 😯

I thought they were joking but I had a quick glance at their tweets and they were genuinely serious 😳

      (Quote)

  14. Ye,

I’d only be impressed if we got Erding for around 4-5mil… But anything over that, we’d be overpaying for someone who isn’t much better than what we have.

  15. Lets be honest here. If Jose really wanted to go, he’d have put in a transfer request as there is undoubtedly interest in him. So far, from what we know, he hasn’t. If I was in Jose’s shoes and I’d heard about interest from the likes of Barcelona then I’d wait as well to see if it’s true or not. This is his career he’s deciding upon effectively. He’s about to decide where he plays at his peak. Now with the amount of people that bemoan Ashley’s lack of ambition, surely from a foreign player’s point of view, with little emotional ties to the club, that has to be a factor in his decision. If us Toon fans were players at Espanyol or Bilbao for example… Would you sign a new deal if there was supposed interest from the likes of Valencia, Atletico Madrid and even Barca? I doubt it. I hope he stays but you can’t have a go at him for evaluating his options.

  18. I would imagine there may be financial repercussions if a player were to ask for a transfer himself. Ditto if we were to get fed up with Jose and put him on the transfer list.

If the bloke is going anyway, we need a bidding war for him to develop, get the maximum wedge for him…

      (Quote)

  19. None of you saw this coming in the middle of the season when Jose went public with some of his gripes?

His response to fans begging him not to follow Carroll out the door after being sold to Liverpool was ‘I want to stay at Newcastle but you never know with this President (MIKE ASHLEY)’

This is what happens when a player publicly and not very subtly at all has a dig at the clubs ambition and complains of “Broken Promises”!

What do you expect? He has seen in his own words “the best manager I’ve ever had at Newcastle” treated like dirt and shown the door, our Best striker and probably best English striker this season sold after Mr. “It was condition of me taking the job that he stays, I can assure Newcastle fans he’s not for sale at any price’ gets the job, and the likes of Kuqi bought. Did Jose not say himself that if they don’t bring in a big name manager who has won trophies after sacking Hughton that it isa JOKE! Look at what he’s been through down the years at Newcastle United with never a stable calm season and you are all getting angry at him for not rushing to commit his future to us.

MAYBE Jose wants to see what ambition is show in the transfer window by Mike Ashley. MAYBE Jose wants to see if Ashley doesn’t flog our best players. Or MAYBE Jose has just had enough of instability and backwards steps under Ashley.

It’s what we’ve always been. The fact that this is our joint 8th best Premier League finish EVER seems to be lost on some.

Huge news major suggestions all Over the place that our 4 transfers are n Taylor, ba, n zog and the last one which may be a shock as this is meant to be our major signing… Llorente the spaniard… Big strong and can finish replacement for Carroll and likes a number 10 like ben arfa to play off…. What you think Lads???

  25. JJ@109…did you air his name earlier in the week ? He scored a shed load of goals for Freiburg last season. Fear he could be a bit lightweight for the PL though, but he would be cheap thats for sure. Freiburg have just lost there manager, and are footballing wise a minnow, but hold there own in the Bundesliga, a few euros would turn there heads

I agree people are too sensitive…

Just like you give them grief for being unrealistic. I’m going to give you grief for not allowing them to dream 😉

Either way, we as supporters can have our opinions. but they arn’t going to change the outcome of the players of managements decisions.

He has scored goals Internationally too. And he isn’t too lightweight. He’s around six foot. And bigger and stronger than Gameiro (Gamerio) 😉
But I’m just playing fantasy football here.

There arn’t many out and out strikers out there that I can see having a massive impact goal wise.

  31. JJ, I reckon Ba and Erding together could score 20-25 goals and when you have the likes of Nolan/Cabaye/Benny and probably more chipping in with the odd few that is a lot for a team in our position.

Especially when you consider at the minute Sunderland have Gyan and Sessegnon who can score goals… and that’s it!

To be honest, over the last 15 years, until the Ashley regime arrived, the board invariably backed the managers with big money. That we only had 1 perhaps 2 managers who made anything out of it, or signed the right players, is a real tragedy.

  40. The more i read each day about enrique’s contract the more i think the club should tell him to **** right off out of toon. The guy was total **** when he first came to newcastle, he gradually improved in the championship, and he improved a little more over the last season. Now his head’s been turned and it’s gotten a wee bit big for his body and he thinks his **** don’t stink anymore. Jose’s forgotten who it is he’s playing for, It’s newcastle ******* united, and if thats not enough for him, then **** right off ok. Enough of all this ****. We can all make excuses for enrique’s situation, but the fact remains he’s being offered a new and improved contract, were signing new players (gosling, arfa, cabaye) with more on the way, were investing in new training facilities, and back room staff, and we’ve generally improved as a club. What more does this guy want??? If he’s not banging down the door to sign a new contract in the next few days, then get rid of him for as much money as possible, get looking for a replacement, AND MOVE THE **** ON.

Ye, combinations can be huge… But I have the feeling we are only gonna be playing one up front next season more often than not.

So we need a striker that can lead the line, not act as support. Which so far from the strikers we’ve been linked with: Gameiro, Gervinho, Erding, Ba… only Ba can do.

And he might get crocked any second.

  43. Pardew said: ”Things are definitely moving on now and we expect to be busier between now and the start of the season. We are working very hard on one or two players and we hope to announce something soon. We should be able to announce a second signing, I would think, in the next 10 days.'”

I only bother about this sentence,Enrique who? 🙄

      (Quote)

  44. JJ, yeah I thought a 4-4-1-1 formation was on the cards but now I think it will be more of 4-2-2-2 formation IF everyone was fit 🙂

      (Quote)

  45. 4-2-3-1 for me I hope.

Lorient is fantasy mate cant see it. Spuds were after him werent they? Surely the fact that there has been so much money squandered should render itself to us being a little more prudent with it for the time being? Especially if the market is over inflated?

      (Quote)

  46. My preferred formation would be 4-2-3-1.

    —————-Timmy—————
    Simmo—Tayls—Colo–Izaguirre
    ———Tiote—-Cabaye———–
    Jonas———Nolan———HBA
    ——————Ba—————–

That’s based on Jose and Barton leaving as I would predict and you could substitute Izaguirre for whoever we sign for Jose’s replacement (although he is top of my wish list)

Ideally, a quality left winger (The Zog) and you can drop Nolan and move HBA into the middle and the no.10 role and have Nolan as an impact player or cover for anyone.

So that team would be based on Ba actually joining and 2 new signings, 1 a replacement for Jose and the other being a strong left winger like The Zog. Be able to do that team for another 15 million in transfers taking our total spend to about 20 million.

      (Quote)

  47. With that formation and speedy midfielders with work rate, you have it 4-5-1 when defending and when you’re on attack, the 3 behind the striker push up making it 4-2-4 with 2 strong holding midfielders there to mop up if it turns to sh1te

      (Quote)

  48. I am going to guess that the striker we are looking at is Tim Matavz. He is only 22 years old and has a reasonable scoring record and wouldn’t cost that much. Seems to fit the pattern so far…

      (Quote)

  49. Fully agree with the first post, totally Enrique’s doing. Pack yr bags son and we can get back to normal. HWTL.

      (Quote)

  50. Maybe Jose is just waiting to see if there were new signings? Anyway, it is his right to look after his own career.

      (Quote)

  51. Well i say **** him , make 2 new signings for that position and clear him out to Bayern Munich , if he wants to go to the bin dippers we could just refuse to do a deal with them and tell Jose we would only accept the german offfer 😈 i have been reading today that Mbengue has discipline problems so i would prefer the lad from celtic and Taylor from swansea .

      (Quote)

  52. Why are the club even bothering to pander to the turncoat *******, No moaning about ambition when he was playing like **** for your first two seasons and should have been replaced, After a good season in the fizzy and 3/4s of one in the top flight he starts spitting the dummy.

His attitude stunk for the last few months of the season and he lost my support during the blackpool match with his half arsed aproach cost us two points and very nearly three.
