Pardew: “We want quality players at this football club.”

Pardew looking for the best!
Alan Pardew claims that transfer action is hotting up as the summer transfer window starts to pick up pace.

The gaffer believes that the club will be much busier between now and the start of the of the new season in terms of player recruitment, although in fairness I suspect that some player sales will also be on the agenda in the next few weeks with speculation continuing regarding the futures of Jose Enrique, Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton.

Next up for Newcastle will apparently be the signing of Neil Taylor who is expected to complete his move from Swansea over the next week or two, although Alan Pardew is insistent that further targets remain on the radar now that more action is starting to develop in the transfer window.

“Things are definitely moving on now and we expect to be busier between now and the start of the season,” Pardew told the Northern Echo.

“There has been a bit of stimulation in the market, with Jordan Henderson going, Phil Jones on his way and obviously ourselves signing Yohan Cabaye. People are starting to make bids, there’s a lot more action and there will be more happening soon.”

Now there is nothing to say that our next signing will cost money. With a rumoured interest in Demba Ba, who is said to be available on a free transfer, Alan Pardew is keen to explore every avenue to ensure that he can entice the best possible players to the club. Pardew continued:

“We aren’t going to rule ourselves out of any situation. We want quality players at this football club so if the players are out there and we think we’ve got a chance, we’ll try our very best.”

Sometimes trying your best just isn’t good enough, like with Kevin Gameiro for example, but at least it shows that the club are willing to try and land the best they can over the summer.

It’s early days in the transfer window and there will be more twists and turns and speculation along the way. At least it looks as though Pardew and Co are trying to work things in our favour for once and are going for the best talent available to us.

Being realistic we are only going to attract players within a certain bracket during this window, although there is nothing to say that we can’t try and get players above that bracket. I mean we did get Cabaye after all.

Hopefully Pardew is right and we do get more players in. Apparently we are looking to get four more after the Cabaye capture, plus more if players like Nolan, Barton or Enrique leave. Will it work though?

We’ll find out in 79 days!

  1. Sooner we get players in the better, clubs will be starting to look at their 2nd priority targets as less and less of the 1st choice become available due to signing for other clubs or deciding to stay put.
I’d imagine that the top 6 2nd choice is our 1st, getting them to sign for toon will be difficult tho as no doubt agents will be telling them to hang on to see if a better offer comes in

  6. Either that or we take unwanted players from the top clubs who are trying to improve too. I would take players like O’Shea, Krankjar, Onhua and M Richards, but wages will undoubtably be the sticking point. We offer decent wages, we must do for anyone to want to come to us, but obviously not top 8 club wages. People like O’Shea may be willing to take a small drop to play more often going into the back end of their career.

I dont think we can afford players like Defoe, Bentley, for example, but maybe we could get Kyle Walker from the spuds?

  7. Toonsy, yeah, I want to go to the Darlington game, short trip for me and Andrew!

Hitman, I’m like Toonsy and enjoy the speculation but for 79 days!! I’m hoping that we get our targets early and Pardew can say ‘that’s us finished unless something comes up that we weren’t expecting’

Army, not sure if it’s today but defiantly meant to be having one sometime this week.

  9. I’m not bothered by 70 days of speculation; I quite enjoy it. What @m not looking forward to is 79 days of in fighting and supposed inside knowledge. I’ve already lost my hair. This could kill me.

  13. Jobey, he cant but he can stand his ground and demand backing for what he wants to do with the team, thats the impression he gave me when he first came and despite what he said in January he rolled over.

  15. Bobby…sometimes decisions are taken out of the managers hands & as Jobeys link states it can even happen to fergie

Personally I’m bored rigid with going over old ground…can anyone change what happened in the past? No…deal with it & move on.

  16. I think, and cue the bashing, we should go all out for Sturridge. Especially as Chelski are likely to bid for either Neymar and/or Tevez, they have Torres already and obviously Drogba. Anelka has been told he can go but I just cant see where Sturridge will get playing time. I think he would be acheivable, but he would have to take a cut in wages but may be tempted by an incentivised contract? Who knows stranger things have happened but I think he would be a great addition. That said, theres cheaper players abroad but I just wonder if we could get him.

      (Quote)

  17. raffo…I reckon the clue to what happens to Sturridge will become clear once Huiddink, or someone arrives to take over at Chelski..

Would love to have Sturridge at the toon, but I reckon the most we could hope for is to borrow him for a season, like Bolton did last year. He is still young enough, and has enough potential, Chelsea don’t need to sell him. Suppose how much he has left on his remaining Chelsea contract would also have summat to do with it…

  22. young English talent, Sturridge is probably in the 10-12 million quid category. Have there been prices quoted for him ? Out of our reach anyway…

      (Quote)

  23. lol mystic. 🙄

He probably is out of reach but I would still take a loan deal defo. It maybe that after that we could tempt him to stay like HBA, but we would need to be very very lucky.

Wellbeck is another I would like, but again think a perm is out of the question
