Too much, too soon?

There will be more signings. Don't panic.
The date is August 31st, 2011 and the time is roughly 4:00pm. There is still time to go in the transfer window, but not much.

Oh wait, hang on. The date isn’t August 31st. It’s actually June 14th which leaves us with a full 78 days of transfer window activity remaining. It was just the impression I got from reading several articles from several sites regarding NUFC recently. I’ve read things about fan expectation and about how it’s not even Alan Pardew that is pulling the strings in the transfer market amongst other things, and I have to say that it’s a bit over the top isn’t it?

I think there is a lot of reactionary nonsense flying about at the minute. I mean for heavens sake it’s been only three weeks or so since the last Premier League season drew to a close yet you could be forgiven for thinking that we were approaching the end of August such has been the level of analysis and amounts of second guessing involved so far in this window.

Everyone should just chill out a little bit. I understand why people are looking at this transfer window with a fair amount of expectation, but I don’t understand why people are so quick to judge it or make assumptions on who brings in the players at St James’ Park. I mean if it is Graham Carr bringing players in above Pardew’s head he didn’t exactly do a stellar job of it in January did he when, incidentally, both were already employed by Newcastle…… Just a thought, but in my opinion it is damning the club without any real evidence to do so.

There are far too many assumptions and reactions flying about at the minute when the reality is that the transfer window is far from over. Yes it may turn out to be another poor window, which I’m sure will delight a certain section of fans who seem to be more obsessed with being right than NUFC progressing, but it hasn’t turned out that way yet.

Give it time.

Save the analysis and reaction for when it’s over, not for when it’s just begun!

  1. ‘West Ham striker Demba Ba is reportedly on his way to Newcastle for a medical’. source – The Guardian 10 mins ago

  2. As there is now another bobby on the site, i have requested a username change to avoid confusion, i know the other lad is controversial but its the difference in opinions that make the blog so interesting but i am not taking anyone elses flak.
Re Pardew saying he is going to add at least another 4 players,
1/ Big deal, we will lose more than that so its hardly enlarging the squad is it.
2/ He hasnt learned from the last window has he, get the players in and then talk about it.
3/ Most will say well at least he is communicating with the fans, but why make promises you cant keep, no wonder we dont believe a word that is said.

As far as Erding goes, he’s had an underwhelming season, so I doubt many clubs will be interested. Plus we have the ability to pay cash, which can only be matched by the mackems at the moment. They seem to be content in being Manure B right now, so no worries there.

Based on numerous reports, Ba has already agreed terms with Newcastle and now it’s down to agent fees and the big medical. He may not pass it, but the club may insert a clause to protect themselves anyway.

You’ll get yellow carded for having a go at the positive crew. 😉

Stop trying to put the blame on me!!!!!!

It’s you! You should be banned! 👿

  6. Demba Ba is exactly the type of player everyone should expect to arrive at the Toon and not Gervinho/Gameiro and the like.

      (Quote)

  7. Good quotes from Pardew today.

Erding, Ba and Taylor all seem to be on their way. Pardew said he wanted another 2 after them as well.

      (Quote)

  8. I dont know about anyone else but is it not worrying he wants so many players….who will be leaving?

      (Quote)

  9. Poor hughton deserves much better than brum!
he should go to cardiff would be more appreciated

      (Quote)

  10. Nope, we’ve lost Campbell and Kuqi,Ireland probably Routledge,Ranger,Smith and Jose, possibly Barton. Imo we need more in than he’s saying

      (Quote)

  11. Liam@90, well signing Ba and A.N. Other look pretty nailed on mate. I don’t think I’d lose too much sleep knowing Shola, Loverman, Ranger or Best leaving – but appreciate what you’re saying.

      (Quote)

  12. Agreed rodzilla wont lose any sleep over smith, perch, ranger etc but will not be quite so keen if the cull begins with nolan, barton, enrique, ….

      (Quote)

  13. For all the talk of not signing Gervinho just to see him have time off, isn’t Ba going to be off for ACN too?

      (Quote)

  14. Richie, you’d think it wouldn’t be straightforward like but the club and Pardew would of known this from the beginning and wouldn’t of let it get this far if everything hinged on him 100% passing the medical when that’s probably not going to happen.

    SkyGraemeBailey

Demba Ba situation will be resolved in next 48 hours, terms agreed with both #nufc & #efc but looks set for Toon, but they want it done ASAP

      (Quote)

  15. Dan….I’m guessing it would be some sort of pay as you play thing……hopefully

      (Quote)

  16. Im sure cashley will wangle in a clause about not playing in the ACN past the first round 😀

      (Quote)

  17. Richie, I’d be surprised if it was pay as you play when he probably has good offers from abroad etc but I would of thought it’s defiantly performance based, I’m probably way off like 😆

      (Quote)

  18. Gervinho to arsenal means one of three things:

    Nasri is leaving

Fabregas is leaving and Wengers moving nasri inside

He really is losing the plot because instead of spunking £10m-£15m on Gervinho he should be in for Given and Cahill.

Anyhoo hopefully Ba can somehow fluke his way through this medical and we can set about nabbing Erdinc and Naylor…

  19. FFS will the two Boobys stop hissin’ at each other.

It’s like listening to a couple of pi$$ed up slappers arguing of a Satruday night!

      (Quote)

  20. Being a realist…. 😳

Good job we are boosting the squad now as it gives us plenty of time to replace Jose and Joey….

      (Quote)

  21. Why are people convinced Barton Nolan and Enrique are all leaving? Enrique’s probably off, but the club selling Nolan and Barton in the same transfer window? Mhm can’t see it myself…

      (Quote)

  22. I don’t think Nolan and Barton will be leaving this window.

Hopefully we get Ba, Erding and Taylor all done this week! 🙂

      (Quote)

  23. Dan….wouldn’t the “good offers from abroad” counter your “performance related” theory more than the pay as you play?….performance related he’d have to score and probably the team to do well, pay as you play he’d just need to play or be fit to play and would also pick up bonuses for scoring and the team doing well(I assume) 😉

      (Quote)

  24. Barton will come back to the club, cap in hand, as soon as Willie McKay finishes pimping his *** around the Premier League also-rans…

      (Quote)

  25. I don’t think Nolan or Barton will leave this window, though the club may try and “push” Barton out due to him slagging of the regime imo

      (Quote)

  26. Newkie,

The evidence for Jose staying/leaving is definitely in favour of him leaving.

Joey seems adept at burning bridges further and if the right offer comes in for him, it will be accepted. Then it will be down to him signing a 4/5 years deal somewhere else or seeing out the last year here….

I am not doom mongering but lets look at the facts here.

      (Quote)

  27. They might Richie, they might not. Personally I think Nolan will stay for one more season then be sold – I still have hope Barton could sign a new contract.

      (Quote)

  28. Moreno-Aye I agree completely with Enrique, I’m resigned to losing him now, not to fussed anymore. As you say a bid for Barton may be accepted but again, its all in the power of the player, Barton won’t have to go anywhere, unless the club make it obvious they won’t play him or something, and after all of Pardew’s praise can’t imagine that happening…Also-who’s going to buy him if they figure they can swoop him on a free next summer? And Nolan off just because he hasn’t signed a new contract when he has two bloody years left? Don’t think so…

      (Quote)

  29. Richie @ 110

When I say performance based I mean like he will get a standard wage that won’t be as high as other offers but the performance based bit will take it to the same level 🙂

      (Quote)

  30. I think Nolan will stay, never ever once said otherwise.

barton is 50/50 for me, depends on a few factors but what we have to remember is that these players are on holiday and a lot of the time it’s ‘outta sight outta mind’ sort of thing,

Easy to have an opinion about something when you’re not there, but when you are surrounded by your colleagues and staff, do you alienate yourself with the same sort of opinions? Time will tell.

  33. Liam @ 102 – at work today mate so threads are in short supply today, unless one of the other lads does one. There is a couple planned though so don’t panic 🙂

      (Quote)

  34. Dan…I’d guess( may be wrong) that even a pay as you play isn’t literal and you get some sort of basic, otherwise Owen would be skint 😆

  35. @Lesh

You must be the slowest person I’ve ever had the displeasure to come in contact with.,

It’s a joke on my behalf . I know it’s me who is the bobby everyone is having a dig at, but , as a joke with the other bobby, I’m blaming him.

Wake up, smell the coffee and get your head out of the sand you negative little person. 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  36. Richie, I’d guess you could have a basic salary or just get paid when you play. I know David Moyes said when Saha first went to Everton he was on a flat out pay as you play.

Im not giving him advice it just makes no real sense signing another striker/winger when their problem was exposed by us home and away, Their goalkeepers are gash and the are soft at the back and cant hold a lead under pressure.

Pardew as much as im not a fan is at least identifying the correct positions we need to strengthen,,,

  43. so if we get Ba, taylor and cabaye in … thats er…… 5.5 million quid spent!! jose goes for 12ish, thats 7 million in profit. why dont we just bite the bullet and bet zogs ffs. even if jose stayed its only 17.5 million spent ffs. peanuts.

Nah cheers Liam. I don’t often work all day during the day, but when I do I try and get a few articles ahead and release them throughout the day to keep things fresh. I was one short on what id have liked but there is still 3 for today, plus maybe one when I get in before I start on tomorrow 😆

  48. Do you ever see your good lady Toonsy?!

Well Erdinc, cant say I am all that enthralled. He is a LW on FIFA for what its worth. Obviously to counter the comments I dont base thoughts on a player from FIFA, but can he play wider if needs be? Could he easily fit into a 4-2-3-1 pronged attack with HBA and NZogbia and BA ahead of them for example?

      (Quote)

  49. No doubt that Ba will pass medical, fvck if stephen ireland / gosling can pass then any fooker can

My main worry is the wording that seems to be on the new contracts, getting any decent money seems to be related to where we come in the league / cups – agree on perf related pay but doubt the players will, they’re used to getting big bucks for doing jack ****

on transfers we have to be realistic, pards and co might bid for them with good intentions but getting the fookers to sign for us is difficult if a team that can offer europe comes in

      (Quote)

  50. Bobby Shinton number 9…. just how do you manage it?

How do you manage to present yourself the way you do…. is it practice or does it come naturally? In trying to mimic Stardy’s antics, you fail miserably and I’d suggest you take the time to rehearse your lines – if that’s at all possible.

When I see folk using BSN9 in reference to you, I wonder just what does the BS stand for? Are you using ‘Bobby Shinton’ to be polite and not pi$$ folk off? If so, your wasting your time.
