Demba Ba deal NOT in doubt! Striker signs three year deal at NUFC.

The new boy in Toon!
Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Senegal international striker Demba Ba despite concerns over the players medical condition.

Manager Alan Pardew had previously cast doubt over the move by suggesting that the deal would be delayed due to some “big hurdles” with regard to the players well documented knee problems, but it seems as though it’s turned out not to be a problem after all and Ba will wear the number 19 shirt next season.

Incidentally that leaves a vacancy for the No9 role, but there’ll be more about that later 😉

Ba has a pretty good goalscoring record having scored 47 goals in 116 career appearances for his previous clubs Hoffenheim and West Ham. In fact at West Ham he was a rare bright spot in an otherwise dismal season for the relegated East London club as he managed to bag 7 goal in 12 appearances.

Hopefully he can transfer that form to the North-East. Alan Pardew, who has waxed lyrical 😉 about Ba for a few days now, seems to think he can. Speaking to the club website Pardew had this to say:

“Demba made a great impression with West Ham last season and is a great signing for this club. He has pace, excellent technical ability, is good in the air and, it goes without saying, has the ability to consistently find the back of the net. Moreover he has a great passion to play for Newcastle United.”

There are those words again; “passion to play for Newcastle United”. It’s something that the other new boy, Yohan Cabaye, also seems to possess and it appears to be something that we are looking for if you believe press reports detailing how disappointed NUFC supposedly were when we met Gervinho.

As for the player himself, lets take a look at what he has had to say about the move in the usual new signing press conference/appease the fans kind of guff.

“I’m very excited to be here,” Ba tolf NUFC TV. “Everything has been sorted out and now I’m happy because I can start to focus on playing and scoring goals for Newcastle. This is a great club and a very good team, so to sign here was an easy choice to make.

“I have spoken to Hatem about the club and he told me how happy he is here and how big Newcastle are, so I’m really happy and I can’t wait to start playing. I know a lot of famous strikers have played here before and I will do my best to win games for the club.”

Ba continued: “When I step on the pitch, all I want to do is win games, and I think the Premier League is a good league for me. I will keep on working hard. I’ve heard that the atmosphere here is great and I can’t wait to score some goals in front of our fans and here that atmosphere for myself.”

Some good words there from Demba Ba, but aren’t they all when a player joins a new club? As far as signings go it’s two signing in a week for Newcastle. I wonder who is planned for next week?

Welcome to Newcastle Demba Ba.

  1. Very happy that we’ve signed him. I quite like what he had to say in the interview on Skysports as well. The only worry is his knee but he wants to play for the club and I’m sure he’ll work hard to keep fit.

  2. Very happy – rated him last year. would have wanted him even if we had to pay 5 million if i’m honest.

Larrson to Sunderland and in other news Ed Harrison has change his blog to http://www.safcblog.com

  3. I’m not so sure if he know’s that much about Newcastle, I mean its the kind of thing players say to appease people isn’t it? But i’m not bothered in the slightest, as long as he can do his talking on the pitch and play well for us, he can learn more while he’s up here 😀

  4. RT @Scottwilsonecho Contract heavily incentivised. Fairly low basic wage, but big bonuses for appearances and goals.

    good 😀

  5. DJG- Technically, Routledge still has the No. 10, but I agree with you. Even if we end up not selling Routledge, Ben Arfa should have that number.

  11. This is great signing, i m very pleased to hear he has signed on the dotted line.

I am still uber excited to see who is gonna get that number 9 shirt as I really want there to be a big name striker signed yet. Basically I think Mr Ba is a good signing, but could there a “bums of seats” signing for us yet?

And indeed, our winger problems still need to be addressed! Any smell of N’Zogbia or Baretta etc yet? 😡

  12. I think Ilike this quote the best:

“I have spoken to Hatem about the club and he told me how happy he is here ” 😉

  15. Suppose we might as well wait till the end of the transfr window in case we have to remove Enrique and possibly barton as well. scuse me . getting a little ahead of myself.

  16. Will he get the 9 ? i reckon he will be our main striker and his goal to game ratio is good both at westham & Hoffenhiem .

  17. Great new regarding BA lads..

Just a doubt though – Did the club release any official statement regarding the Nolan sale?Didn’t happen to see anything and thought that it was kinda weird..

  21. Could BA a 15-20 goal a season man this if you look at his finishing ability and if we get people fit who can lay on the chances for him.

      (Quote)

  22. How much do we pay Ben Arfa? Cause we’re getting our monies worth, player attracter and a player 😀

      (Quote)

  23. Ben Arfa is fast becoming a toon legend and that is without really showing all his talent on the pitch…yet. 😀

      (Quote)

  24. Afan and Ahmed – Thanks mates, dunno how I managed to miss that.

      (Quote)

  25. If you look at his goals he keeps his shots nice and low and powerful. Hate those strikers that blast it ower the bar every other chance.

      (Quote)

  26. If benny ever can’t play play, surely he’s the next PR man!
And, who’s gonna get the no. 9 shirt? Be prepared fór a mega signing?

      (Quote)

  27. Wouldn’t be surprised if the no.9 was left vacant this season, would mean whichever strikers we bring in this season have to prove themselves to earn it…

  28. Benny has done more than our mystery or Airport woman. Put it like that!

Liam – 7pm now cos of this signing ok mate?

      (Quote)

  29. Lesh I won’t expect a mega signing. I’ll expect someone for up to 8m or there abouts. Hopefully we can get that guy early enough so that he gets a full pre-season with the squad.

      (Quote)

  30. Im hoping the positive thing about the Best for sale rumor is that it’s because Pardew is making room for a mega striker.

      (Quote)

  31. Even so DJG, Best at least has some potential and wouldn’t be on big wages anyway, at least be sure Ranger and Loven are going. Ba, Shola and a new guy? Not exactly strength in depth when we know about the first two anyway 😕

      (Quote)

  32. OOt the road, maga striker coming through. 😮

I would love it if they announced someone like that out of the blue instead of all the build up. Nothing is safe from rumours and info leaks in the twitter age.

      (Quote)

  33. Really shows what kind of a draw the club is for Ba to want to come on a short deal that is mostly insentive based

  34. @witters

That article is so funny, the headline and two photos 😆

iPhone wants to call you sitters 😆

Got a good feeling about Ba!

  36. Well I feel a tad better today knowing that we have a much needed striker, but I still feel that we have another striker lined up 😉

      (Quote)

  37. Dave – we’ll get 2 more strikers, a winger and taylor. then replace anyone who goes 😉 😉

      (Quote)

  38. Ice…personally I liked the way Dave Whelan dealt with the Martinez to Villa issue but he hates Ashley apparently & I dont think we’ll get N’Zogbia cos the inflated toon price

      (Quote)

  39. Ice I dont know mate I think that could be just Rags ****, I believe if there was a deal for £7mil agreed with Everton it would have to be the same to us. But I dont believe they were selling him for £7mill in the 1st place

      (Quote)

  40. I heard it was 9 mil that the toffees agreed on but the poor sods couldn’t even generate enough for the down payment…

      (Quote)

  41. I just had another look at Ba’s goals for West Ham. He really is a good finisher. Seems to score different types of goals, be it headers, tap ins, when through on goal and the odd volley in there too. If he can play 30 games for us next year, I’m pretty sure he’ll score at least 15 goals.

      (Quote)

  42. delighted to see Ba complete his move ! Concerned about his knee condition and how that could be a problem for us, but i understand our doctors examined it and so i am certain they would have made some point of it had it been a major risk 😉

      (Quote)

  43. if newcastle can get another top striker and some good defenders and attacking midfielders in before arsenal then i rekn we can hammer the ba**ards

  44. Pleased to see how fast that new grass is growing in the stadium over Baaaaa’s shoulder

Also that shirt looks toooo small for the big fella.

Woooo Hoooo over the moon with this signing. Might be a gamble, but defo one worth taking.
