Who else will be moved on this summer?

Ranger off?
The transfer window thus far has been a productive one for Newcastle. Already three new faces have arrived on Tyneside with more expected to follow.

It makes a pleasant change from previous windows which have seen us frustrated at times, the January window being a prime example. Fair play that the club identified targets and were able to wrap a couple up in the early stages.

It’s exciting to be linked with top players. Newcastle had a convincing if inconsistent first season back in the Premier League and it seems apparent that Alan Pardew and the club scouts are looking at players of a higher calibre to take the club to the next level.

It’s potentially an exciting new era for the club’s fans to enjoy, but with much talk and speculation over new arrivals there will inevitably be talk of who is on their way out of the club. Captain Kevin Nolan followed released pair Sol Campbell and Shefki Kuqi out the exit door last week.

Some were surprised others disgusted at the sale of Kevin, but as Alan Pardew has already suggested we must look to the future now and not dwell on it. It’s evident the club are looking to go in a slightly different direction and we must trust and support that.

It is almost certain that others will follow Nolan out of St James’ Park this summer. We all know the Barton and Jose situation too well and it’s certainly a saga that is dragging on a bit now. We know both men are entering the final year of their contracts and that as things stand neither have signed new deals.

Seemingly the record hasn’t changed. Newcastle won’t offer Barton the extension he wants and Jose seems unwilling to discuss a new deal. I don’t think many Newcastle fans would argue that Enrique probably wants to move on.

It’s funny that the club insist on persisting with a player who won’t even talk to them about a new contract. Yet they have given up on a player who desperately wants to stay. Now I know Barton is vocal and allegedly his rants haven’t gone down too well with Mr Ashley, but lets not forget that Joey was also our best player last season and when a player of that calibre wants to remain at the club that’s fantastic.

It would be nice if some compromise could be reached between the player and the club. I know that’s highly unlikely but as recently as yesterday Joey reiterated his desire to stay at the club on his Twitter page.

As we all know every player has their price and a big money bid for any player could spell the end of their Newcastle career – Andy Carroll’s move in January proved that. But which current players could you see being moved on in this window realistically? Here’s a few I could see leaving if their was any firm interest.

James Perch – James is apparently unhappy at his lack of first team opportunities at St James’ Park. According to the Sunday Sun the player is seeking a move to get his career back on track. Perchy looked like a fish out of water ( 🙄 ) since arriving from Nottingham Forest and has the rather unique record of receiving five yellow cards in five games. Despite coming across as a top bloke, he sadly isn’t Premier League quality.

Alan Smith – OK so we know that Smudge has been told he can find a new club. It’s a matter of when rather than if with Smith’s departure. Alan has demonstrated he has great leadership skills and was key to our promotion back to the Premier League. I will always have a soft spot for Smithy but he is past his best now and very much surplus to requirements.

Jonas – Not too sure about Jonas’ future. He is another high profile player that has been constantly linked with a move away since the end of the season. Jonas on his day is a joy to watch, but at times he is very frustrating. Newcastle fans seem to be divided in opinion with the Argentinian, although I must say I like him and would prefer to keep him. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will cash in on him, especially with the arrival of Marveaux.

Danny Guthrie – Danny arrived from Liverpool with great potential. He impressed during a loan spell with Bolton and did enough to convince then manager Kevin Keegan to splash £2.5 million on him. Unfairly criticized at times by Newcastle fans in my opinion, Danny did very well in the Championship and I still see a lot of promise in him and I personally would like to see how he develops over the next couple of years. Danny was linked with a loan move to Forest last season, I do think a loan spell would do the lad good. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to see Danny boy move on.

Nile Ranger – Much like Alan Smith, it’s been well documented that Nile is available for transfer. Nile seems more interested in being the next 50 cent rather than the next Alan Shearer. His desire and application has been questioned on many occasions and although the lad has bags of potential, he hasn’t developed in the way we thought he would.

Leon Best – Another player apparently put up for sale by the club. Leon answered his critics last season by taking his chance when it was handed to him, most notably scoring a decent hat-trick against West Ham. Many including myself questioned Leon’s ability when he was signed from Coventry by Chris Hughton, but Best for me looked more than capable when called upon last season. I think he would be a very useful squad player and him staying wouldn’t be a bad thing by any means.

Steve Harper – Loyal, dedicated, great servant. Just some of the words you would use to describe Harps. He played second fiddle to Shay for years, but his love for the club kept him on Tyneside when many would have demanded a transfer. Unfortunately for Stevie he has two talented young keepers breathing down his neck for the number 1 jersey. It’s my opinion that Tim Krul will be starting next season for Newcastle, which could see Harper leave. Either way I do think we will lose one of our 3 senior keepers.

With the transfer window in full swing it will make for an interesting if nervy ride. What do you lot think? I have probably left a couple out.

  1. On the Jonas argument; when he was on the bench and then came back into the team he was magnificent! Remember the Man City game he tore the right back apart ran at the defence and went for goal whilst providing quality crosses!

Its just a shame that he cant reel out these performances regularly but when he had something to prove he was outstanding. Thats why competition for places is so important.

  2. I asked this last night… When has Jonas stated that he was going to leave (other than being upset if Jose goes) and where has it been written that the club are shopping him around…. All I see written is conclusions from journalists that are putting 2 & 2 together to get 5.
As soon as we signed Marveau, the Jonas BS has started. This is all derived from a bored journalist that has no idea as to what is going on at Newcastle… Please someone show me a statement where either the club or Jonas have stated that they are ready to part ways….

  3. So Nolans love for his old mate BSA was greater than than his so called love for the Toon ? Reading from the outside he jumped ship for an extra yrs contract, and has made his Geordie son convert to a Hammer lol that tells me all i need to know.
Bobby get your heed outta the sand mate, or maybe you’s have that funny green smoke on that train 😆

  4. 77…. dude… this is mike ashleys newcastle and its now as chavy and cheap as his shops are… everything and everyone is for sale…nothing would suprise me… i would not even bat an eyelid if we sell tiote adn cabaye before the start of the season.

  5. Bobby….4411 disagreed with one of your posts, yet you are agreeing with him 😉

Of course Fat Sam wanted Nolan more, he has to get them up at the first attempt or could lose his job. If they don’t go up and Sam keeps the job, watch how quick they’ll try and dump Nolan because they can’t afford his wages 🙄

      (Quote)

  6. DJG – No doubt dome will use that to batter the clu. Strange considering he was apparently shit and not good enough anyway. You watch, like Nolan is now, Taylor will instantly be a workd beater 😆

      (Quote)

  7. Toonsy…when we we’re first linked I went onto a Swansea forum, the said he was a decent player but quite a few expressed doubts whether he’d be good enough to start in the prem.

  8. I read on Twitter (insert disclaimer here) that chelski want to sign Carr. That would be the worst of all transfers IMHO 😯

  9. BS9. I thought you knew some of the players personally, isn’t that how you get your so-called FACTS?

Ding ding – all aboard the bullshit bus!!

  10. Maybe we ARE signing Baines then?!? Jose to Barca, Naylor to Everton and Baines to us? That would be sweet

      (Quote)

  11. TC – I’m in Bristol waiting for that very same bus. Don’t panic though, all the shit gets dropped off in Middlesbrough and Sunderland before it enters Newcastle 😆

    I bet you f*ckin would mate 😆

  13. And I’ve noticed that Bristol is full of potentially good looking women. Mind you, they need to sort their dress sense out. No end of times I’ve seen promising women walk by only to see the knicker elastic of big pants slicing into them like a cheese wire.

Wear nice pants women. That is my message.

Or wear none at all. Get some camel toe on the go 😆

    Anyway, I’m rambling 🙄

  14. Cat. Out. Of. Bag. Porto defender Alvaro Pereira wrote on his Facebook page before taking it down: ”The coach [Andre Villas-Boas] is going to Chelsea. It’s a big loss for us, but we will still be a very strong team.”

Chelsea are not happy with just poaching Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas they also want to bag star striker Falcao in a £40 million raid on the Europa League winners, report The Sun.

    😯

did you get a reply back from the email you sent the club?

  18. Still think the only useful player to leave will be Jose, The jonas story is coming from journos assuming he will leave now weve signed another winger and some ridiculous throw away comment from Barton on twitter, If anyone takes Jonas and Coloccini with their wages id be surprised.

Arsenal would never want Barton and the only clubs who would would not be paying him £60k a week…

      (Quote)

  19. Rich – I dunno which part was funnier. The joke or the bit about the club replying 😆

  24. Its a shame we don’t seem to be angling towards loaning Ranger out, I think could have still proved his worth in the future, provided he was brought down to earth a bit. Still, maybe he just doesn’t have the character for football.

I hope I’m right in thinking that Best won’t be moved on and Lovenkrands might move on instead..but with all the gossip, no smoke without fire and all that.

Presumably Smith and Perch will be going, maybe Raylor as well? And if we get yet another centre mid then Guthrie might be off…unless we sell Barton as well.

And, unfortunately, possibly one of the keepers? 😕

  25. [email protected],,,, i think the jonas story comes from er… jonas. it was cos he said it was VITAL jose stayed for him to be happy at newcastle both on and off pitch. So its basically all linked back to jose. i think if jose goes jonas goes, jose stays… jonas stays. i realy think its as basic as that.

      (Quote)

  26. Toonsy….aye thats better…..and I’ll take that as I know on the reply 😆

To be fair to them, wor lass designs cards and had asked most of the bigger clubs if she could use part of the crest, the Toon were the quickest to respond…..with a polite feck off 😆

  27. Even if Jose went, Jonas can only go if clubs want him, He had no concrete offers after relegation, When the club wanted a knock down fee and he was a couple of years younger…

    RELEGATED ❗ ❗

If we lose Jose/Colo/Jonas and Barton I think we could be in serious trouble no matter who we bring in.
We must keep a core of the present squad who understand what it means to wear the shirt and what is expected i.e. passion and commitment. We will need this on a wet Wednesday night at Wigan etc.

      (Quote)

  30. fatboy would get rid of every ‘spare’ player we have if he could. Everyone knows you only need 1 player for 1 position, you can only play 11 at once. 💡 ….SELL ALL THE BACKUP!

…gona be an optimist here for a minute. given the departure of Carroll, I reckon we’ll be 1 or 2 players max better off at the start of the season. And fatty will have spent (including transfers out) about 25M short of what he’s brought in.

…and yeah yeah, I know you don’t have to spend big to get good players – but it helps.

      (Quote)

  31. [email protected]….jose also had no offers after relegation.. .but now he is in demand so it would seem. I would like to see them all stay but as we limp onwards in the window with every day they stay but are linked with moves away makes me wonder if we will get the usual last day flog off and not suitable replacements in.. god i hope not. if they are going i would rather them go now. its a real dilema for both player and club. The players seem relectant to stay as they think the club has finance motivation over and above player motivaton. Was it David Dein that said ‘ you dont own a football club to make money’. So in the clubs defence they cant buy players in much as they dont know what the players they have are going to do, and they wont sign cos the club wont invest. Its catch 22. I think the only option is to say to Jose and anyone who is not signing .. aka simpson, jonas etc… what will it take for you to sign on… they should say.. we should then see if we can realisticly give them that, if we cant we have to give our best possible deal without nay bullshit going on. if We have to give them a deadline of two weeks to agree the deal or they go on official transfer list. its only way. We cant pussy foot around until the last day then relaise we are up shit creek without paddle and the new season just about to begin.
If the player wont sign then we have to buy in a repalcement BEFORE we sell that player, not after.

      (Quote)

  32. For what it’s worth I would be dissapointed if Jonas was ‘moved on’. He’s said he wants to stay, he has 2 years left and I’d be pleased for him to stay. Look how many games he has played for us compared to Marvuex last season (who I’m not completely sold on yet), Ben Arfa last season and how many first team games has Ferguson played. If he went it would be getting beyond the point of making good changes and would just be ‘yeah your cutting too fast now’. This isn’t the NHS! 😛

      (Quote)

  33. All these doom mongering is depressing;

lads lets face it enrique has had no offers…yet jonas will have none colo will have none why? Wages colo is on 85k a week only the top top teams can afford that and are they good enough? no they would have to take pay cuts to move anywhere, much like smith will have to.

So lets face it only mugs like west ham who will shell out on wages will take these players; and there arent many

Not really considering I was born in February 1988. 🙂

  35. [email protected]….85 k per week ofr 2nd best LB in prem is not massive out of control money anymore mate. its high end yes.. but there are many mnay on way more than that now. i think jose will get that money.

  36. Jose is in demand because he was outstanding last season in a tricky position to fill, Gutierrez has hardly set the world alight i can think of about half a dozen really impressive performances in his 3 seasons, Bar his debut couple of matches a few in the fizzy and possibly man city and wolves this season he hasnt caught the eye much, That said he is vital to Joses game with his help defensively and link up and i would keep him no doubt.

Just seems a non starter to me, We can tell players they can leave all they want but weve seen with Geremi, Smith and Barton in the recent past that players with huge wages are hard to shift…

      (Quote)

  37. Have to admitt I’m starting to worry about the number of players who could be leaving us. Its starting to look like we are going to have an entire new starting line up.

      (Quote)

  38. People can say Jonas and Collo are only loyal to their wages but at the end of the day what happened we went down and walked the league with these players, would we have done that with people who cost say £10-20K per week. It’s paying good wages that attracts these players and what makes us better than the smaller clubs. If you want international players they are gonna cost money! Collo is worth every penny IMO best CH I have ever seen at the toon and I include Woodgate; who I assume was on pretty high wages.

      (Quote)

  39. CC aye but people are just dismissing our left flank like it will be easily replaced by cheaper players. It has been our strongest outlet by far over the last two seasons and IMO it won’t be easily replaced.

      (Quote)

  40. DJG

Jose will be hard to replace, We could find plenty better than Jonas even if i dont think he will end up leaving…

      (Quote)

  41. Would not want to see Jonas leave. He is a very creative outlet and he serves good coverage for the full back he plays in front. Also he is never injured?? Based on Marveux’s injury record, it would be dangerous to replace him with Jonas rather than keep both and let the competition begin.

But seriously, does the journal or any other paper for that matter, really have any insight in whats going on behind the doors at St. James???? I mean they are really spouting s**t all the time about us.

      (Quote)

  42. @129…. for that matter… does anyone know whats going on inside st james either 😉

      (Quote)

  43. It’s only because we payed high wages that we got Colo and even then we were lucky IMO. Can you imagine someone like Walter Samuel wanting to come to the toon instead of Inter Milan!

He has dragged our defense up a level beyond what it used to be. When he first came and everyone said he was poor it was because he was playing like a continental line and our dumb defenders where playing people on behind him. They follow him now and have learned from him. I think S.Taylor would get rid of some of his positional problems under the guidance of Collo next season if he can stay fit.

      (Quote)

  44. DJG

Nobody debating that Coloccini is indespensible, IMHO Taylor will shine next season with Colo alongside him.

Its just another press report though, We dont really know for sure that anyone will leave look at the ammount of clubs these lads were linked with after relegation yet there still here…
