Is Neil Taylor nearly over the line?

Not another Taylor?
For some weeks now we have been linked with Swansea and Wales left back Neil Taylor.

It has been suggested on a couple of occasions that the £1 million transfer to bring Neil to Newcastle is pretty much a done deal. If that is indeed the case then what’s the hold up?

There were rumours doing the rounds on Tuesday that Everton were also interested and the player would prefer a move to Merseyside over Newcastle. Everton face a bit of a task themselves trying to keep their first choice left back Leighton Baines at the club.

Much like Jose Enrique at Newcastle , Leighton has been in fine form for Everton and attracted interest from bigger clubs. Rumour had it that David Moyes was willing to make Neil his new first choice at left back should Baines move on.

However, The Evening Chronicle claim that a source close to the player has denied there being any interest from Everton. The same source also states that Newcastle are the only club in the race for Taylor and the deal should be confirmed soon.

Taylor has already held talks with Newcastle and is said to be on the verge of penning a five year contract with the club. Apparently there are some formalities to be completed before Neil can officially become a Newcastle player.

Neil is a young player with bags of potential and a buy out clause in his Swansea contract makes him available for around £1 million. It has been suggested that Taylor will be brought in to add depth and competition for the left back slot. If Jose is to leave then Neil won’t be his direct replacement according to reports.

It’s fantastic that Newcastle are finally addressing this as Enrique has been the only senior left back at the club for a few years now. James Perch and Danny Simpson have both played there before, but both players are naturally right footed and much more suited to playing down the other side.

The Enrique saga is dragging on and still there is no official word from the player on what his intentions are. The club are willing to reward Jose’s rise to stardom with a lucrative new deal, but the silence from Jose is deafening. Although the fans want him to commit, the reality is he probably won’t.

What I do want is for the player to show a bit of honesty and tell us he wants to go if he’s opting out. That way we can move on and work on bringing in two left backs rather than the one. If we have to replace a player of Enrique’s calibre, we should be aiming high and moving quickly.

Newcastle hope to complete Neil’s transfer by the end of the week. Taylor would be Alan Pardew’s fourth summer signing in what’s proving to be a busy and productive window for the club. What are your thoughts?

Also off topic, but I would just like to wish Ed Harrison the best of luck on behalf of everyone at Nufcblog.co.uk. Ed sadly has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. All the best Ed, stay strong.

  1. It would appear to be a done deal maybe he is stalling to see what Jose does first or who else we get in at LB.

i love we are adding depth to the team and especialy the defence stil think two more defenders would be great though 😀

  2. Apparently his agent and the Swansea chairman are both on holiday and that has caused the hold up…From what I’ve heard he will sign either Thursday or Friday 🙂

Nice touch at the end, hope Ed gets through it, never nice to hear someone getting cancer.

  3. Andrew defo, it’s awful. It’s cancer that took my Dad and watching him suffer was something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

  4. Mark. Aye very sad mate, my grandad died of prostate cancer and there is a history of it in my family. Hope Ed gets through okay and I think they are getting better at treating it since my grandad died in 1997.

  5. Must admit like IF we are signing this highly rated young LB as insurance and Proper specalist cover to the LB position I will be very impressed. I can’t remember the last time we had a specialist LB for cover. Maybe if Enrique goes we are gonna sign someone a little bit older and experienced with the idea of N Taylor eventually replacing him, now that really would be organisation!

  6. wow Babayaro that does seem a long time ago but i think your right we used people like N’Zogbia in that position.

So again club is going in the right direction imo more depth is what is needed

  7. Is it just me or should we Loan/Sell brum a few players in an attempt to sign Roger Johnson or Scott Dann !! Give Brum Ranger, Travernier and Airey on Loan , sell them smith, rout ! Do Chris a Favor an he will do us a Favor

      (Quote)

  8. I dout he would sell his best players to us just because we loan him some youngsters and sell him our awful fringe players.

      (Quote)

  9. Scott Dann an Johnson reportedly want out any way .. if he is resigned to losing them , why not give him a few players in order to sweeten the deal,

Every1 feels we need another def sure why not ! not to mention CH is a fan of Williamson so maybe a player trade plus a bitta cash ! i personally Williamson but I think Roger Johnson would be better

      (Quote)

  10. And CH is reported to be lining up a bid for Danny Guthrie .. i like the lad but he doesnt have a chance with our current midfield

      (Quote)

  11. maybe. would he want to come to be possible back up though?

Also, Guthrie could be a useful squad player next season, like he was here. Although a loan would do him an awful lot of good

  12. I think Roger Johnson would be a starter for us ! he would be a starter in most teams in the prem I rate the guy very highly and he fits the transfer policy…. I do honestly like Danny G but can u see him starting ahead of Tiote, Cabaye, Barton, Jonas, Mav, Gosling, HBA and if we get Blaise as well ….

And i hope we sort out squad numbers, I dont like how out fringes players like Peter Loven is 11, Rout is 10, Campbell was 5, Danny G is 8.. Mav should get 11 ! Cabaye no 8, an blaise if we get him 4… 10 for Erinic or who ever the support striker is,

  13. It saddens me that Guthrie and Ranger is lured away from the club. It should be a hint to the ownership that Premierleauge teams are hunting our youth. Then Maybe they have not given them fair chances. If its needed that they get out let em go out on loan. you can always sell em later.

  14. I still think Loan Ranger out to Championship side .. or even to one the prem teams chasing him Bolton would suit him… See how he progresses over the session if it lil or no progress sell him, he is still young enough to command a fee , an another year in the prem might push up his value

      (Quote)

  15. . ‘I do honestly like Danny G’

    ‘I like danny g though.’

Cheers guys much appreciate it. 🙄 😆

  16. John – You speak sense as I made a very similar comment about 16:00pm yesterday. I think Danns and Johnson was one of the standout pairings at CB last season and it is noticeable what happened when Danns got injured. That would suggest they are better as a pair. Would we want to take them both and install them in our team should Collo go? I would happily take them both and give Hoots Routledge, Smudger, Perch and maybe Willo/Best.

I think we should look to try and keep Guthrie. I like him and after he has a couple of games he gets into his stride and looks a good tidy player. If we are going to be playing 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 type formations, we will need the additional CM cover which he provides.

  17. Well at £1 million I dont think theres a need really.

I am liking what the club are doing at the moment. I would like to keep hold of the core but if crazy bids come in then take them. I really like the signings made so far and those mentioned too are great, esp Matuidi and Sturridge but I will pull my head out of the sand and smell some coffee and not get carried away just yet

  18. Sorry to hear about Ed but at least he knows he has distant and full support from all blog readers he has kept us going with some splendid work. Keep your chin up Ed you must be a fighter after all you support the ‘lads.

      (Quote)

  19. Tempting Mark Toon but the second Enrique comes out and says ‘I want to go’ you can knock 2 mill off his transfer fee. We also then officially ‘need’ a replacement which means we can potentially be charged an extra couple of mill simply as we not in a strong bargaining position.

I wish we would make a bid for Pat Van from Chelsea. He has been playing games and if we got him in he would either be good competition for Jose and someone who would gradually replace him as the season played out or he would allow us to sell Jose knowing we have someone young, skilled and ambitious.

20 mill for him and Sturidge should be enough…

      (Quote)

  20. 15m for Zog is pricing him out of a move but Henderson went for a stupid 20m, silly season has started, but we bid 10m for Gameiro who was a gamble yet Zog is tried and tested at this level.
I just hope that the flurry of new signings that cover the Nolan fee arent our big purchases, got a gnawing feeling that the majority of the Carroll 35m will be buried in a Lambias smoke and mirrors job.

      (Quote)

  21. Hughton did a good job for us but i cant get all starry eyed about him as he should have walked with Keegan as a matter of principal, after all, they were a “team”, he got into bed with Ashley and suffered the consequences.

      (Quote)

  22. taylor fee isnt 1 million quid though… the 1 million only triggers a clause to let him talk to clubs.. the fee then has to be agreed. I think this lad and fergie will be our two left backs with jose sold. i dont think we will have three of them fighting it out.

      (Quote)

  23. Charlie – Van the man signed a new deal only a couple of months ago. He wont be allowed to leave. I think we should go all out for Baines!

      (Quote)

  24. So every club that wants to talk to him must pay £1m then he could turn around and say no I don’t want to sign for you?…..don’t think so Craig 😉

      (Quote)

  25. Aye it’s defo a release clause. The Swansea chairman also confirmed this. He did say it’s the MINIMUM though and he is basically trying to smoke out a better deal, but £1 million is all it will take to sign him.

      (Quote)

  26. richie…what planet you been on brother?? look up.. thats the chairmans exact words.. not mine. The 1 million merely permits us to talk to him – its not the buy out figure in his contract. check it out richie 😉

      (Quote)

  27. Craig so if 10 clubs are interested in him they each pay £1m, the club reject all the offers and have £10m in the bank….that is how you say it works…..Ashley would love that concept 😆

      (Quote)

  28. na toonsy.. he also said that is not the figure needed to buy him… their chairman was clear in what he said… i wil ltry to get commnets and paste though incase i have it wrong… or maybe you have them to hand to put on so we are all 100%.

      (Quote)

  29. ‘cough’ Would anyone else take Crouch to be the focal point of our attacking front 4 next season?! Thats more our level isnt it BSN9? 😉

      (Quote)

  30. Craig – Can’t find the quotes, but it appears you’re right. Mind you, it doesn’t matter really. If they want too much we won’t go for him. Plus the fact that terms are agreed and a five year deal is agreed, plus the Swansea chairman and manager insisting that neither want players at the club who don’t want to be there would suggest to me that £1 million would do it.

      (Quote)

  31. Not arguing about the figure to buy him, but I would argue that every club who’d want to talk to him would need to pay £1m

Anyhoo, morning Craig hows you? 😉

      (Quote)

  32. The club would not need to pay £1m but offer that sum for his transfer and then Taylor would have the right to speak to the club.No money would change hands.

      (Quote)

  33. Lads.. you are all bonkers lol 😯

if we offer the one miilion they have to let us talk to him… we dotn have to give it… however… if he wants to then come we have to agree on an offer with Swansea which will need to be decided.. .and its not 1 million. Its whatever the clubs agree over and above that. i know its funky clause like but thats the way it is… like you all say though, it dont really matter cos whatever it is will not be much more than the 1 million’you can have a chat with him’ clause will it. ANYWAY…..we all digressed….i am sure that taylor will be joses direct replacement with fergie as the understudy… we wouldnt be having two understudies would we.. in taylor and fergie?

      (Quote)

  34. Thats ok then Craig, interpreted what you said as cough £1m ya can talk to them.Soz……in my defence I’d just been arguing with wor lass so was in a bit of a fettle 😉

      (Quote)

  35. I think it bodes well that Naylor managed 30 games for Swansea last season.

I think the toon could do with looking through some stats for ever-present players rather than very skillful/gifted never-presents.

Not just saying that because of some recent signings but if you have a couple of dependables with a low injury rate you can build a stabilised team.
    Roger Johnson 38 games….also Aaron Hughes :-O

      (Quote)

  36. Good to see the management addressing the lack of depth in the squad. I for one have lost a lot of respect for Enrique, even if he does sign a new deal he will really have to work hard to prove to me that he still wants to be at our great club.

      (Quote)

  37. Thanks for the auspicious writeup. It in reality used to be a enjoyment account it. Look advanced to far brought agreeable from you! However, how could we communicate?
