Tell Celtic to poke their £1.5 million!

£1.5 million for Forster? Jog on!
So Celtic have apparently bid £1.5 million for the services of Fraser Forster as they bid to take the loanee to Parkhead on a permanent basis.

Have they? Haven’t they? Who knows. I certainly don’t, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Celtic were interested in our goalkeeper after he impressed for them last season by keeping 24 clean sheets in 44 appearances in league and cup matches for Neil Lennon’s side.

Personally I’d like to keep him, but I can also see him leaving. Much like Tim Krul, Forster is at the age where he will want to start making regular first-team appearances. With Tim Krul looking likely to be the one who takes over from Steve Harper it leaves Forster in a difficult position.

What is an acceptable offer though? Is £1.5 million really enough for a lad that has the rest of his career in front of him and is highly rated? I don’t think it’s enough, but I also don’t think it’s that far off.

I’d take no less than £3 million for Forster in all honesty. It’s not bank breaking but it’s a bit more respectable than a derisory offer that values him in the same bracket as James Perch. Unfortunately, Forster has no Premier League experience so I feel that our bargaining hand is weakened by that fact.

There is still pre-season to come and I have a feeling that it’s only then that we’ll know where we stand on the goalkeeping front. Forster may come back and prove a point and take the No1 spot, although I fell that is unlikely. Shame really, with me and him being Hexham lads and all…

It’s canny how we’ve managed to be so well stocked in our goalkeeping department. For years now it’s been a position which we haven’t really had to worry about and we’ve always been covered in one way or another. In fact we were lucky that Steve Harper has been happy playing second fiddle/has no ambition* and has been with us for so long.

* Delete as appropriate.

Unfortunately though I don’t think any of our ‘keepers will be willing to sit around for years while the other get their moments, and if that is the case then one of them will go. If it’s Forster, and if it’s to Celtic, then fair enough, but not for £1.5 million.

Come back with a serious offer Bhoys!

  1. I almost forgot what this thread is about…

Spencer is *****, Bobby’s metro sexual and Batty is stalking them both…
As for Foster… He’ll go for around 2mil… Fair enough.

Don’t think we’ll be signing anyone other than Neil Taylor on the next week.

  2. Newkie aye, like when watching the toon and commentators refer to Ameobi as a ‘one for the future’ or ‘bright prospect’ or something. Even though he’s like nearly 30.

I think staying at one club for a long time can confuse outsiders like.

  3. Let me think for a moment…gom to Celtic, one of the top five teams in the world, play in Europe ever year, play in front of over 60,000 fans every week, win silverware every year, or stay at Newcastle, play to avoid relegation, probably failing, if I ever get a game, play in front of about 20,000 mostly away fans each home game, stand no chance of ever winning anything, allow a numpty of a failed manager to dictate to me what I will do sitting on the bench every week ❓ Boy, what a dilema!! After all the EPL is a league all englishmen think is the best in the world, that was at least until Barcelona showed their best team up a bit. Hm, Celtic or Newcastle? Gee No wonder you guys actually thought you’d win the world cup too!

  4. @newkie

You crawled out from your mushroom fella? 😆

Your comments on Jose are so wide of the mark.

Jose is 25 and in nearing his prime . We could sell him for £9m and we all know the regime will look for some bargain basement replacement.

Maybe a left footed James Perch.

Can’t believe you can’t see the direction we are heading. Then again, having read your comments, I can believe it. 😕

  5. Bobby – I said something similar to you wrt harper and his lack of ambition.

Celtic are nowhere near being one of the top 5 clubs in the world. WTF are u on? Forgotten all the lovely religious fighting? Who sent Lennon death threats?

Spence – where in Sheffield you from matey

  6. @Joe G

Absolute perfect example of distorting the facts . Woo hoo hoo hoo

The best one was when you mentioned playing in front of 60k fans per week. We all know your average attendance is below ours. Fact.

We all know you qualify for the Preliminary games to see If you qualify for the CL and don’t always get through. If you do you knocked out immediately. Fact.

You play in an absolute joke of a league and have no credibility outside Glasgow. Fact.

Your fans are as pathetic as Rangers fans who are bigoted and religious shallow people.

    No time for you. 👿

  7. Bobby-I’d love us to keep Enrique but I can’t see it myself, I think he wants away for his international aspirations and you can’t really blame him for that, or the club for that matter. It would be great to keep him, I’d like to see as few changes of our good personal as possible, but I don’t think he’d be a huge miss, and if he keeps playing like he has done for the last half of the season whilst running his contract down then we need to sell him asap.

The club have said they’ll look for a replacement and that Raylor wouldn’t be the first choice. Naturally they don’t talk gospel, but I’ll save my judgement and criticism to the end of the transfer window unlike yourself, still, keep seat reserved for me on your reality train… 😉

  8. Joe G. I think it’s hilarious how you think SJP is ‘20,000 mostly away fans’. Keep dreaming bud. And IMO you can have him (Fraser Forster) will never be good enough for the Premier League or possibly even championship. Apart from 2 teams your league is like english league 1 or something. And yes I watched some of your games last season, the other teams were usually so poor Forster never touched the ball. So it’s hard to tell if he will be any good or not.

  9. @raffo

Sorry raffo, what have I said regarding the keeper you aren’t happy with?

      (Quote)

  10. @Raffo

Celtic are a bigger team than Newcastle thats simple fact and what has the death threats got to do with what Joe G said?

BTW i think he is almost totally wrong about newcastle we are a team on the up.

      (Quote)

  11. Joe G is deffo mackem on a wind up. 😈 Or a complete idiot who wouldn’t know where he was if you dropped him off in the next town down the road. 😆

  12. @newkie

What frustrates me about you and others with undying optimism is, where do you get it from?

I base every decision or opinion in my life on history.

It’s worked 99% of the time and the older I get the more accurate I become.
Something to do with being stung when younger and learning from mistakes.

I said back in Febrauary when Phil Thompson announced Jose was a done deal that we would see a less committed player because I believed it was true.
It happened and nothing has changed my mind.

It’s not rocket science it’s realism. Analysing what the regime say over a period of time, what actions they take and it’s not hard to predict their future movements.

They have a plan which has nit changed for 3 years.

      (Quote)

  13. I saw Forster playing for the reserves once or twice and he didn’t stick out as being anything special. just looked like a tall, gangly, slow, average keeper. Which is probably what he is and why he’s playing in one of the sh!ttest leagues in the world.

      (Quote)

  14. Bobby-perhaps like yourself I get my optimism from my naivety in youth? Not that I’d call you old..but if you knew Shinton in his heydey well then..

Similarly if Ashley keeps shafting us I’ll change my opinion, I guess in part its because of the huge anti-Ashley cult that took off about two years ago, kinda got on my nerves and it makes everything a bit more partisan about it…

Also-completely agree on what you said about Celtic. One of the 5best teams? Hah, yeah maybe in the Championship… 🙄

      (Quote)

  15. Alright Marktoon. What do you think of the keepers then/ Personally I think pocket the £1.5M for Forster (if he wants to go there).

    Krul number 1.
    Harps bench
Soderberg / Alnick / whoever else reserves.

      (Quote)

  16. DJG- actually agree pal. Timmy would be number one for me, it would be nice to keep Harps around, but I can understand if he wouldn’t wanna play second fiddle to a 21 year old after years of being a bench warmer.
I would like to see more of forster but in reality he would be my 3rd choice I think and I wouldn’t expect him to stick around if he cant even guarantee 2nd spot

      (Quote)

  17. Not too bad mate, yourself?

I actually still think Harper will be no.1 next season…He’s edged Krul on performances this year imo, and unless Krul improves massively over the summer I think Harps will get the nod. Add into that he’s got some leadership and is a captain possibility and I think he might hold onto it.

      (Quote)

  18. Bit late for that aint it? I’m generally up till four but my mind dies at like 11 😯

Tyler Durden representing your insomnia? Or are you just a badass? 😆

  19. Newky I love that film, got it on bluray. Im the same, I start staying up later and later and sometimes I get sick of it and stay awake until the next day so I can have an early night. Then I might have a wekk of getting up early. Totally wrong like I need a better routine!

      (Quote)

  20. Newkie, never too late pal, i’ll stick it up in the morning.
I wish I was half as cool as Tyler Durden

      (Quote)

  21. DJG-Aye I’m the same mate not sure what it is, I feel tired but can never get to sleep before four, and in the summer its bloody light and the birds are chirping and I just can’t get a decent sleep 😕

  22. ‘CELTIC are ready to make an improved £2 million plus bid for Fraser Forster – after having their initial offer knocked back.’

If he wanted to go I would snap their hand off for that like. If think it’s a fair offer. If someone like N Taylor is only worth £1M then I think it’s decent amount for Forster tbh. Can’t see him ever being prem level although I might be hidiously wrong, I doubt it 90%. He would have to suddenly start improving at an astonishing rate.

      (Quote)

  23. Newkie. Aye know what you mean. I can feel tired around 1-3pm sort of time and think right I’ll get a good early night, and then by about 9pm I’m wide awake and then before you know it it’s like 3am in the morning. 😕

      (Quote)

  24. Aye Mark. The funny thing is that it’s just a made up role model that only Edward Norton see’s in his head so it makes the part even more cool. Deffo one of Pitt’s best films IMHO.

      (Quote)

  25. DJG-Ditto

re-Forster…I think he could still be of use, I haven’t seen loads of him but Norwich were apparently keen to sign him for this season so presumably they have some faith in him-would be great if we could loan him to them and really judge how good he is week in week out.

Its definitely Brad pitts best film, Durden is probably the coolest character from a film ever, closely followed by Jules Winnfield (Samuel L Jackson from Pulp fiction)

Norton is definitely a better actor though, I’ve never seen him as terrible as Pitt is in films like Mr and Mrs Smith or Troy or summit 😆

      (Quote)

  26. totally agree. I don’t usually watch Brad Pitt films but out of the ones I’ve seen I would say it’s the best film he ever made and the only part that trully suited him. Norton is a very good actor always. Even Bonham Carter is good in it.

      (Quote)

  27. Newkie you’ve just mentioned some of my favourite films.

Terminator 2 Judgement day. For just alrounf greatness and excellent pacing from start to end

Fight club. Thought provoking and really cool.

Pulp Fiction. My favorite Tarentino film.

    Goodfellas, fav Scorsese,

      (Quote)

  28. Would have to agree with them lot 😀 Terminator is just a classic, Goodfellas is awesome-Raging Bull might be my favourite though, probably one of De Niro’s best performances in that.

With Pitt I think he was really good in Snatch as well, pulled off the pikey boxer brilliantly and its a good British gangster movie as well

      (Quote)

  29. Yeah..used to be I couldn’t stand Di Caprio…but recently with the Departed, Inception and Shutter Island he’s really come on

      (Quote)

  30. exactly mate…. james franco in 127 hours too- amazing!
of course fat mike’s cameo in goal 2 out does all mentioned.

      (Quote)

  31. I’ve always thought Di Caprio was a good actor. Blood diamond deffo his best film IMHO. Catch me if you can, he is good in that aswell.

      (Quote)

  32. I fancy getting True Grit on bluray, I’ve not seen it but looks amazing but it’s about 20 quid. 😕 I like the new westerns they’re making and also ‘Unforgiven’ great film.

  33. blu rays are sneaking back up..its cuz they do those stupid dvd/blu ray double packs……why would you want both??
same when i went to buy 127 hours

  37. I have actually a crazy idea.

Since basically we are on default having 2 competition and the league, why not assign each of them to it.

Maybe Forster can be involved in the Carling Cup matches,Krul in league, harper in league? 😳 😳

      (Quote)

  38. Oh,talking about movies,Danny Boyle are seriously top-notch.

Slumdog Millionaire is the best movie to date i ever watched.

    127hours is another one.

Danny Boyle,Christopher Nolan,Steven Spielberg. My top 3 favourite directors.

  39. N Irish – Sorry mate I have actually had something to do at work! Makes a refreshing change!

I was referring to the threats on Lennon but I admit I am not sure who sent them, Rangers or Celtic fans but was more reference to the obvous problems with the league and relationship between the two glasgow clubs. It is a great shame but religoin is the no1 cause of all problems IMHO. And yes Celtic are possibly a bigger team, but that is possibly down to the aforementioned religious links to places like Ireland too and also the fact the SPL is pretty much a 2 team league, but we are not small by any means.

BSN9 – I was referring to your point about Harpers possibly not having the ambition to move and play regularly and fight for England squads. I have said a few times that I believe that to be the case and think he has shown loyalty but has taken the easy option and not gone to try and better himself elsewhere. Happy to sit on the bench. I would not and am not content with settling, others have spoken against me and thats their choice. I think he has been lazy. I keep trying to instill that into my brother who hopefully wont make that choice.

      (Quote)

  40. slum dog. ugh

on topic, this move would make good business sense if we got a right price. Maybe wait until after pre-season and see if Enrique is leaving, use Foster as makeweight for Izaguirre.

  41. Keep him, don’t rate the guy. let him stay with one of the lesser teams in engerlund, i.e Newcastle thats about the
level he should be @ 6’7″ cannae come for a cross ball. hope you lot down there enjoy the relegation battle

      (Quote)

  42. Izaguirre looks good in the SPL, but i have seen him turned inside out v Rangers, not many have made the step up to EPL, most end up at Boro.

      (Quote)

  43. @200

Hope you enjoy losing the league again Rangers are gonna clean up again and now they have some money again it will be even easier to destoy Celtic.

Should sell him we have two way better keepers and 1.5 million is pretty good for a kepper who has never played a game for us.

      (Quote)

  44. @201 Don’t sign anyone from Scotland, when will people learn, some players are made to look good by playing in the shitiest league in the world.

      (Quote)

  45. @203

there has been lots of great players to come out of Scotland

    -M.Arteta
    -C.Cuellar
    -A.Hutton
    -D.Wilson
    -B.Ferguson
    -C.Adam

and they are just some of the players to come from Rangers in the last couple of years.

The SPL is a bad league but to say no good players come out of there is just dumb.

      (Quote)

  46. Thought I’d take a look in at your website as a Celtic fan to see whatu all thought about big FF I don’t rate him myself.

What struck me more reading comments on here is how deluded the premiership and its fans especially toon fans have become.

You may think the spl is **** and I’d have to agree outside of ourselves and the orcs from across the city the league really is **** poor.

But don’t be thinking the epl is what the English media has made it out to be. Outside of the top 6 the quality drops rapidly. Over Newcastle a few times recently and lads you are far from special.

You do know most other football fans in Britain and Ireland wet themselves when it comes to you guys.
One minute you all think your gonna win the league and the next your relegated. You never have and never will again win anything with the attitude you have. You can’t even see what Ashley gave you. He pumped so much of his money into a club that can’t possibly compete with the Mega rich clubs that your unlikely ever to win anything but you treat him like a lepper and try to force him out.

Guys get a grip. Newcastle are a regional club that should be happy to survive in thepremiership. You are not a big club and never will be.

I’d bet there are more Celtic fans in Newcastle than there are took fans outside of it.

Enjoy your relegation battle. We’ll all be looking in with a smile.

  51. yawn..”deluded” “never gonna win anything”….I’d say they bellieve everything they read in the media if I thought that any of the feckers could read. The championship trophy means more and is harder to win than any piece of tin you can win up there, the only one half decent is the Title, well done Walter Smith.

  52. Celtic may have a bigger support base but they certainly arnt a bigger team in terms of players or finances.
Otherwise they wouldn’t be bidding for our third choice keeper…
They havnt had a premier league standard player since Larsson and Viduka left.

As for deluded fans…. “one of the top five teams in the world” – enough said really. 😀

You cant say that Celtic and Rangers would be far bigger if they had the money we get from t.v rights i still think we have a better team than both the Glasgow clubs but if they had the money we do would be a completly different story imo.

    @CC

There is minority groups in ireland fighting for what they beleive is freedom of their country and to call everyone in Ireland “terrorist scum” is shallow so please dont be an idiot please.

  56. Well all those replies were well thought out educated and informed statements lol.

Ihave no time for the **** that attaches itself to the two glaswegian teams but being from ireland i can understand it, you should read a little before making comment on politics you do not understand.

Rangers may make it four in a row this season and we may come second in a two horse race but we will have the excitement of a championship and cup battle. You will fight relegation and bankruptcy if you go down.

The premiership cannot sustain itself with the debt its currently carrying. History tells us alot… keep in mind what happened in serie A and remember the figures involved there amount to little when compared to the premiership.

God willing clubs survive as they are the heart blood of a community.. Its going to take a few of the top clubs to go to the wall before you reign in the debt.

You can always come up and watch the SPL when you have no teams left to support.

      (Quote)

  57. NUFC are on course to break even for the first time in years, So i very much doubt we will be fighting bankruptcy relegation or not…But you are right that some clubs are ready to go pop and the premier league will eventually have a club go bust in the near futute IMO

      (Quote)

  58. CC

On the poppy thing.. it was wrong of the support to do that as it didnt come across as what was intended.

Now you have to realise alot of tic fans are irish or are of irish heritage..these people that lived on the streets of belfast and derry during the civil right process and bloody sunday have seen first hand what the british soldiers caused on our streets. Why would we support a poppy campaign raising money for the same people that caused havoc across the north.

What the banner read that day was “no blood stained poppy on our hoops”…. what the fans were protesting against was the celtic board as we have been pushing them for years to display the white poppy. the white poppy existed many years before the red and is to symbolise the pain of war for all concerned on all sides.. from the soldiers to civilians who were killed… and to campaign for peace
What we have seen in the north of ireland makes this a far more poignant poppy to be displayed… you cant disagree with this?

      (Quote)

  59. “Well all those replies were well thought out educated and informed statements lol”….a bit like yours then, for all Ashley’s faults, financially he’s running a tight ship(too tight) and we aren’t running at a loss.
