Taylor deal dead.
It looks as though Neil Taylor's move from Swansea to Newcastle has been quashed as the Premier League new boys have decided to dig their heels in over the proposed transfer.
It is thought that the player is deciding whether or not to challenge the legality of Swansea's stance after Newcastle matched what was thought to be a release clause in his contract although the chances of a legal challenge very much depends on the left-backs real willingness to join us.
I don't quite know what to feel about this to be honest. I mean I was never really bothered that we were interested in him in the first place and I can't say that I'm overly bothered about the move breaking down. The best way I can describe how I feel is by saying that there are plenty of other £1 million left-backs who have had zero Premier League experience knocking about so it's no great shakes to miss out on one of them.
If anything it puts Swansea in an awkward position. Remember when the news first broke and their manager, Brendan Rodgers went on a rant about how he doesn't want any players who don't want to play for Swansea? Well thanks to his chairman he has exactly that.....
This transfer has similarities with the Phil Jones transfer from Blackburn to Manchester United. Same kind of thing with seemingly different outcomes although only time will tell whether or not this deal is dead in the water or whether or not there are some more interesting twists and turns along the way.
Who would have thought that the signing of a cheap, inexperienced player would give us our transfer saga of the summer. At least with Coloccini and Ben Arfa, the two most recent transfer sagas, there was a top class international at stake. With Neil Taylor....... Hmmmmmm.
One day this transfer might really interest me, but we'll see....
