Chelsea checking on Cheik?

Tiote interesting Chelsea?
Chelsea are interested in Ivory Coast midfielder Cheik Tiote, according to Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo.

The Echo believes that Tiote is on a shortlist of replacements for the injured Michael Essien and also claims that an enquiry has been made by the Stamford Bridge outfit with regard to the availability of our midfield general.

Whether or not there is any truth in this remains to be seen, but it will naturally be cause for some concern from fans who will take it as gospel, combine with the fact that every player has a price, and come to the conclusion that Tiote will be gone.

Tiote has a long-term deal to sit on, but as we’ve seen before it’s no guarantee that a player will want to honour it, or that the club will want to honour it for that matter. If the money is right then a deal will be done, but it will have to be good money for us to do a deal. That’s pretty much how things seem to work at NUFC these days isn’t it?

There are other candidates that Chelsea have lined up as a replacement for Essien. Scott Parker on a one year loan deal is one apparent option, Jack Rodwell is another, and João Moutinho has also been mentioned. Hopefully their new boss will see better options in that lot before looking to Tiote.

We’ll see what happens on this one of course, but I would be tempted to use the same approach as I do with all newspaper rumours and treat it with caution. Hopefully it remains a rumour, but if Chelsea do come calling then we could have a problem.

Maybe that is what Didier Drogba and Alan Pardew were shaking hands on back in May?

😉 😉 😆

  2. 😈 Ashley will be talking to his 2nd in Command the Liar working out the sums 5 year Contract (-) Tiote Signing On Fee (+) Current Market (+) Interest = £Yippeeee Millions
Need we say any more. The Only Thing Ashley is interested in building up is his ever bulging Bank Account, or he might put the money into his Casino Account.
Why oh Why Did Shepherd ever sell our club to this Cockney Scum.

Because he was stitched up by Hall. Also, Ashley is not a Cockney. Sounds great for a song, but it’s wrong and makes us look silly. It’s like calling us Mackems…..

  5. I hope not witters, the man is breaking down all the time.

If this happens, could we be looking at that Uruguayan defensive mid that was catching our eye last summer? Jose Rivallos or something like that?

  6. Oh & as toonsy said…he wasn’t given much choice further Hall selling his shares to Ashley but as I hate Shepherd I’ll conveniently disregard that as pro-Shephred propaganda 😀

  7. AndrewT….Essien is out for 6 months so thought that would tie in nicely with our transfer policy 😀

  8. Has everyone forgotten the state Shepherd left us in? Conveinient.

Bollox to it, sell him for £20million + Sturridge. Go and spend that on Matuidi and Long and who says we arent stronger? Tiote was a beast last season but everyone has mentioned how many games he is likely to miss anyway.

I find it strange how Nolans a tugboat, yet he is sold and people are up in arms. Bartons the best thing since sliced bread now after one season, yet this time last year people wanted rid.

How fickle we football fans are.

I would rape Chelsea for all its worth if they want Tiote that badly. LPool last year, Chelsea this.

  9. Toonsy is right, Mike Ashley is not a Cockney, he is from Burnham which is on the Berks/Bucks border! Still a Fat Ba****d mind!

If Chelsea want Tiote and are willing to pay top dollar there is nothing we could do about it…….

Ask Liverpool how they held onto Torres!!!!!!!!!!!

      (Quote)

  10. indeed toonsy he isnt a cockney. been trying to tell people for ages hes from just near maidenhead, Burnham i think it is. though perhaps its close enough haha

  11. its a great sign for the club that Chelsea maybe interested. its a measure of how well hes doing. good on him. if he goes though im jumping off a bridge

    🙄

  12. Van Anholt and Sturridge plus a few million for Tiote I`d wear that. We could then buy the french guy Matuida I think that`s his name. This would strengthen the team three for one!

  13. Be suprised, I’d imagine we’d want upwards of 25mill. Tiote not say last year he didn’t fancy a move to london. But money talks…

  14. We`ve got to be realistic under the fat man we are a selling club and their is nothing we can do about it. We can argue and ***** on until we are blue in the face but I`m afraid whether we like it or not that is the way things are going to pan out. I`m as frustrated as anyone because I think that as soon as any player shows talent the big teams will buy them. With this plan we are never likely to aspire to any great height but the fat man will sure line his pockets

  15. If Chelsea offer £25m Ashley will get the Helecopter out……

Pardew see’s him as the linch pin of the team, so would be a kick in the bollocks if they sold him…

  16. I only think we sell at the right price, which every club do. Man City will only sell Tevez for a set price. Manure solf Ronaldo for a set price. We will sell Tiote for a set price. If we sold him for £10 million then yes we are a selling club but we wont.

£A Sum + Sturridge and maybe Machecran / Van Arnholt / even Anelka and we should accept. We would be foolish not to. We need a good striker, we need LB backup. We could forget Naylor, go and buy Matuidi and we would be in a much stronger position IMHO. We would still have the fabled £35 million to spend

  17. i will be fecking guttted if he went like!!!!!!!!!!! newcastle united simply cant keep there best players and i no for a fact if ashley see’s a good offer for tiote he would sell him str8 away!!! even if chelseas offered 40 million i would say no as he is so important 4 us!!!! chelsea **** off

      (Quote)

  18. Also, Gosling may prove his worth in pre-season by sitting in the middle. Also, Barton will be ablew to slot back into the MF with Cabaye as he is wasted on the wing.

Just my thoughts and I await some knives whilst I pop off to do some work

      (Quote)

  19. I see we’re not getting Jay Bothroyd either 😆 Off to QPR 😀

I’m waiting for people to be gutted we missed out on them now they’ve signed for other clubs 😆

      (Quote)

  20. toonsy im plz we didnt get bothroyd like , ive watched him play so many times and hes so borin to watch!! dont think hes gonna cope in the prem!!

  21. If Chelsea offered £15m + Sturridge though I reckon that’d be a good deal as we could buy Matuidi with the 15m

but i would just hate it if tiote went hes probably our best player

  22. It looks as though Chelsea are looking at a number of players to replace Essien, De Rossi of Roma, Parker and the lad from Porto who the new Chelsea manager obviously knows very well.

I’m hoping its all just pure speculation linking Tiote at the moment but at the end of the day money will always be the deciding factor

      (Quote)

  23. £20m & van aanholt with us actually buying a tiote replacement (not parker) would suit me 🙂

      (Quote)

  24. ive just watche a vid of vukic talking – sounds like a top lad!! he defo needs a chance

      (Quote)

  25. I can’t see this happening, whoever Chelsea sign is just a 6 month fix until Essien returns.

      (Quote)

  26. I think he will get one Army – as HBA’s back up.

Tiote was our best player last season but I think HBA will be up there this season. Tiote gets far too many bookings for me.

I suspect the guy from Porto will be Villas Boas first choice though

      (Quote)

  27. Not sure about that Andrew. Maybe they will take a long term view with Tiote as Essien is 31 ish? If they go for PArker then yeah its very much short term view. It will certainly show Villas Boas thinking

      (Quote)

  28. Player plus cash deal might work – Sturridge plus £10m or van Aanholt plus £20m etc… As long as we get enough to replace Tiote with a quality player, I’d be okay with this. These are the dark ages of football. It isn’t just us either. Other clubs will be parting with prized players in this window, as long as the price is right.

      (Quote)

  29. I hope it is not happening, but I can only hope. I don’t want Tiote to go at any price as the board will only take another gamble on freebies.

      (Quote)

  30. If Tiote went in exchange for Sturridge plus cash it would be a good deal. We would have solved the striker problem and still have loads of wedge to secure a good midfield general (maybe even one that picks up less bookings and is more local, i.e not going to miss months of footy during african nations every couple of years)

      (Quote)

  31. if tiote gos he will b in chelski squad until essien is fit then he will be dropped and then chelski will want daniele de rossi from romer the tiote will be fogotten about that is what happens at chelski !!

      (Quote)

  32. lads,
how naive are you all being in regards tiote? even if we get 25 mill for tiote….that mean we will only get 2 free signing out of it along with more BS excuses. There is NO point in selling our best players if we refuse to re-invest in the team. We seem to be the only team around that has to sell for big money merely to buy freebies

      (Quote)

  33. Where’s the reality train when you need it?

Even if we get a massive amount of money what evidence is there that Ashley is prepared to spend it on the sort of quality we need?
If he won’t pay Erdinc what he wants why assume he’s prepared to pay any player who can command higher wages?
As for cash plus Sturridge, what if Sturridge asks for 60k plus, what with many hailing him as a future England star?

It’s great that Tiote has developed so well for us but I hope Ashley doesn’t cash in because we’ll be down 1 great player and based on what I’ve seen so far, I simply don’t trust Ashley to release an appropriate amount of funds to buy the players some of you are getting all excited about.
